I worked at Wal-Mart as a cashier for a summer when I was in college decades ago, and I used to keep a lazy eye on weird combinations of items customers would buy. If you receive government benefits like Medicaid or Food stamps, all your spending that isn’t cash is tracked. If the number’s don’t add up, your benefits are reduced or eliminated. To me, that’s a good reason to own gold or jewelry, if you can store it safely, to be able to sell to improve your lifestyle, or even to be able to afford gifts for children and grandchildren. A health crisis or job loss can impoverish almost anyone.

Just in 4 of the $5 bags of fake jewelry I have more than made up for what I spent many times over just in the gold, and that was just the gold-plated stuff I identified. Right now, people undervalue gold, think some stuff is just junk and worthless. What is the value of a silver fork? Figure 90% silver and 10% copper. How many ounces, but people will sell it for pennies on the dollar. Be it in a bar, coin or round, fork or ring, they are still gold and silver. The funny part, I was able to get some silver to cement out from the fake jewelry but have not refined that yet.

Here in NYC, cash is kind of still king. You'd be surprised at all the "Cash only" places here. As well as services that will help you out with the sales tax if you pay in cash. I don't see that going away for the foreseeable future. PM's can easily be converted to cash relatively easily too.

As long as Nation-States/Central Banks hold Gold, it will always hold relevance. We may not focus on it to a high degree in the United States but it still holds huge strategic importance in most of the remainder of the world.

Buying Gold as often as I can. Have more than enough Silver. Starting to think about trading Silver for Gold. Most of my Siler at under $20.00 so if they want to put my ratio around 45-1, I'll be in.

Question: My coin shop has to report to gov any cash purchases >= $10k. Have you seen this? You didnt mention it. Heres the Q: What if I spend $9k today and $3k tomorrow...do they bundle purchases within a certain time window?

From a cash and carry earlier today I purchased x2 2022 full sovereigns @ 3% less than dealers I paid in cash . But I also had to fill out a small form , name address and membership number . The store was Costco uk I imagine these codes are active in the uk also . But don’t know for sure

yes, gold is untraceable that is part of why they hate it so. They can track who bought it if it was bought by a credit card yes, but what if he sold it to someone else, lost it or simply hide it somewhere? A few years ago there was an amazing discovery in my country, a bag of 3000 year old gold springs was discovered. That was a primitive form of money. Someone had hid them somewhere and never came back for it. The poor sap was likely executed for theft but told no one where he hid the loot, and as a result it was lost to the ages for 3000 years. That can so easily happen with gold

Just like you, I like to have some. And while I don't think there will be a confiscation event like in the past, I do believe that once CBDC is here to stay and has replaced most if not all cash transactions, there will be a hefty redemption tax on metals that may render them somewhat worthless or worth less than the actual value (value - taxes) in this new economy. There will be a window to exchange them for tokens, but once that window closes, bam! This will be one way to prevent people from owning it. But what do I know??

Anything is possible, but I don't think that will be the case. It would simply send it further off grid.

I agree with you. Once the people are forced to use CBDC and ONLY CBDC's everything we have stacked is worthless. It will be our fault if we allow this to happen.

Private transaction with metal as cash , it’s in the constitution. Worth reading if you find the time. 💪😎👍🇺🇸💰

@@curtbaronio2825 The constitution doesn't mean anything to the government, and it barely means anything to the average american. But it is fun to pretend that it is the law of the land.

Me and my wife enjoy garage sales, estate sales, flee markets and antiqing, and i buy and sell stuff constantly with cash. This is a huge market the government has no control over, and its killing them because they can't get their grubby mitts on it.

What about carrying physical metals across international borders. What methods are best? Can they be seized at airports and border crossings?
@homesteadaquarius8 ай бұрын
As long as the masses just don't have a clue and dont care, we will all be drawn into what they will accept. I think cbdc is inevitable. Not sure what precious metals place will be in 50 years but i am glad to have it now. Great quote. We need Jefferson back.

I’m in the UK and buy direct from the royal mint so I assume they and my bank are tracking me but here there is no sales tax or capital gains on sovereign gold so I’m not concerned for now. CBDC and elimination of cash in future is a concern though

I know a guy who believes cash in you pocket is an implied contract with the government. Everything that he does is a function of bartering, zero cash. He is a skilled tradesman and trades his work for 'stuff'. He lives quite well. Once government mandated digital tracking money is the only option, I believe we will see a lot of barter only transactions. Materials have been barter item for Millennia.

When I buy metals or guns and ammo, I use cash. I never spend more than 10,000 at the coin shop because I do not want a form filled out. I will buy from other stackers after I verify the metals with my Sigma.

If gold and silver are passed down from one generation to the next, they can't be tracked. This discussion makes me reflect back on my father. He describes talking to Germans as he walked into Germany at the end of ww2. All german riffles and pistols were tracked. When Hitler gained control he removed them just from his enemies. At some point in the future, the government will try to take our gold AGAIN. What they can't track, they can't get. I remember a story of a person selling rings. The gold coins had been collected but old coins and jewelry were not. He made the rings with the coins he hid and was able to legally sell them. Life uh, finds a way.

I am not concerned about CDBC's. I am concerned that once they are in place they will do away with cash. There is a lot of people that depend on cash and do not use banks. Especially the old timers like myself. I still keep my cash in a coffee can buried in the back yard for example. Cash is not trash.
