Great setup for seniors my age that need a stable platform for standing. As a fly fisherman this is important for casting. I rigged my Nucanoe Frontier 12 with the trolling motor mounted on the rear transom with hands free foot steering to keep the casting deck clear of anything that may tangle my fly line. Either way is a great way to enjoy your fishing experience. Thanks

Man HWK really makes it easy to do some homework upfront and get an idea of what I’m looking for...and then of course I’ll get out to demo on the water. 👍 nice job

Nice setup. I have a very similar setup with a Minn Kota Terrova bow mounted on a Frontier 12. I currently run it off a 50 Ah LiFePO4 battery. Not a cheap setup but considering it's a Torqeedo with spot lock I'm very happy.. I have two pull ropes, one for the latch and one to deploy/lift the motor, that makes it easy to switch to a paddle when I'm fishing an area.

Very creative build. Thanks for sharing it. Can you share a link to the extension arms and knuckle joints for that style of pontoon? Thanks again.

Good morning from Greece, I want to put something similar in my kayak, this electric motor in addition to holding on to fish, can be used for running

so...this is a fantastic build/mod. what's the approx cost of the yak + the mods (pontoon, motor, battery, etc)?

Thanks Dan, loved the info. One thing though, please give Matt a raise so he can buy some shoes or is that a California thing? LOL

Budget Bassing he had just gotten off the water. He’s always barefoot though.

I used to have a quick release bracket on my old tin boat. Nothing new. What would be cool is finding a way to deploy the TM without nearly submerging the front of the boat. (35lbs TM +175lbs human = we're going down!)
@HeadwatersKayak5 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Adair yes deploying and retracting front the water is a balancing act. Not going under, but not super easy.
@tazix25 жыл бұрын
I have the same setup on my Frontier with the Minn Kota Terrova. One pull rope to release the latch and one to deploy / lift the motor. Can do it all from my seat super easy.

@@tazix2 That's awesome! I've been hesitant to put a bow mount on my F12 because I seem to have enough problems with the bow starting to dip when I'm trying to get something out of the hatch. Do you have a YT video up showing your setup? I've been fairly happy with the transom mount but definitely feel like I'm missing an element of control that I used to have with my tin boat.

What happens if you hit a submerged rock or log with it mounted on the front? One the back it's not an issue because it jacks gets pushed away from the kayak. If it's at the front is it not more likely to cause damage to your kayak and possibly the motor?

Nice job. Does this setup weigh the bowl down when on the water ?
@HeadwatersKayak5 жыл бұрын
Monty Hale that’s why we out the battery in the back to offset the motor weight

To anyone thinking of doing this. I had a Power Drive on my TX17 Bass Tracker that was such a bitch to deploy that I bought a Terrova for it. I also have a Frontier 12 with a transom mount trolling motor on the back. While I think a front mount would track better in the wind,I can't imagine trying to straddle the shaft and deploy this bow mounted motor while in the water.

Hey guys. I have a Lure 10 and a Lowrance Elite 7Ti. I have yet to put it on b/c just a little confused about what all I should get to run the unit. This looks super simple and clean. Where would I store the battery on that type rig? do you have links to what I'd need for my Lure to mount get the unit up and running? Thanks for the great vids.

Brad Ewing this setup would work great on your Lure. I don’t have a link. We could take care of it over the phone I can send an Invoice over. Just shoot me a call 209-224-8367 Tuesday- Sat 10-5

55 lb thrust draws lots of amps. What size battery you go with?

I asked Matt, and he said he brought in his own deep cycle marine battery. Not sure which size it was off the top of our heads.

@HeadwatersKayak5 жыл бұрын
Didn't think to weigh it. Tino has a trailer so launch is, so weight was not a huge issue. He strips down the motor and battery when transporting.
