Great to see you paddling Fort Bragg with Jeff and Cate. They are both fantastic folk and kayak instructors. They introduced me to rock gardening in 2018 and cannot wait to go back once this virus shut down is over.

Goodness that looked like it was a blast. What a great couple to hang with. They both looked excited about what they do. No pumps, that surprised me.

It's been so long since I've eskimo-rolled a yak in white water. Took me back and looked so fun. Now that I think about it, the last time I did that I limped in with a broken ankle, a torn shoulder, and a broken wrist. It was awesome. Did not end the paddle early, and I still walked my kayak to the truck when I was done for the day. When my friends eventually learned of my injuries we headed to a nearby Irish Pub instead of a doctor, got two buckets of ice water and drank a lot of beer. Off to the ER after that because you gotta have priorities man.

You saved the need for pain meds by stopping first at the pub? 🤔☺️

I’m definitely getting my next kayak from my local headwaters shop because of all the informative videos you make thanks keep up the good work also one request a sit on top kayak video with molded foot grooves short kayaks for the river 8 foot to 12 foot. Emotion Spitfire 8 & 9, perception access 9.5 & 11.5, Pelican 80 & 100 And anything else you think fits in that group under $500. Swift rapids to small river floating.

Pure madness. Of course, I only got on a kayak for the first time just last week. I’m also brutally out of shape and uncoordinated. Wound up with a Lure 11.5. It has a complete gong show (me as a kayaker) but sweet Jeebus it is fun and relaxing. I love the channel, Dan. I’ve learned loads about PFD’s , paddles and, different boats. You often mention having loose hips, kayaker’s hips or something like that. Can I you explain this or do a video on it? I’m as coordinated as a pregnant sperm whale in Manhattan so learning technique is pretty important for me. Keep up the great work. Cheers from Canada.

So much fun once I decide which kayak to purchase at my age now of 68 which I feel like 50? Mostly lake a river kayaking in our beautiful Pacific NW of Spokane, Wa areas and Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. Want to purchase one that I can take along some camping gear. Thanks for the fun filled video in wishing I were participating.

When I saw Dan fending off the ledge with bare hands I figured the barnacles were going to cut him to ribbons. Here in Maine they would have. Could it be that West Coast barnacles are not at the cutting edge? Nonetheless if it were me playing among the ledges I'd be wearing something to protect my hands.. Once burned, twice shy?

Yeah that’s me being an idiot. I know better. I made lots of mistakes on this trip

Headwaters Kayak Don't be too hard on yourself, I've been on the ocean for more than 60 years and I do something stupid nearly every year! My all time favorite was the time I came in from running tours in my charter boat and got so wrapped up in clearing kelp off my mooring line I forgot to fasten the line to the deck cleat. I was walking up the ramp to my car when a nearby tourist starting waving his arms and pointing seaward. When I turned and looked back there was my boat drifting out to sea...now that's stupid!

Man, I spent a ton of time dumping out boats last weekend. I left the river shopping for a sit on top!

Very cool. That is NOT the same thing as the kayaking I have done. It's so far removed from river kayaking that its suprising there isn't a completely different name for it. But it looked super fun, and I would love to try this sometime.

The general name is rock hopping or rock gardening. We like to call it "whitewater of the sea" as there is a lot of whitewater and is our fix when we cannot run whitewater rivers. Take it or leave - it is all fun!

Hey Guys. Nice video. Looking for a kayak myself for some river running and for use in the seas around Scotland, which get a bit like those in the video! Debating between the Dagger Katana, Pyranha Fusion or maybe something else. Wondering what your thoughts are? Katana look like it’s behaving well in the water, but conscious of the cover blowing out.
