Verry timely and useful, I am precisely now suffering from pain in my right arm and in the index finger joint with the hand. I'll try it, anti-inflammatories don't help much. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing about your challenge! I know it seems that the problem is in the finger right? But actually, everything is connected so the problem could be coming from your forearm and the pain is traveling (referring) to other spots. Try the pressure point exactly as I shared and let me know how it goes. Be sure to look carefully at your drumming technique too. That might need to change to make your healing permanent. Let me know if you need any help. Keep pressure pointing my friend 🤙

This is amazing. I found this so helpful. My whole right arm is locked up after rehearsing for 3 hours today and its coming from exactly where you said but on my right shoulder blade. Thank you.

I didn’t know about your tendinitis battle. I’m so delighted you shared this information and the importance of proper technique. A blurb in a book or tutorial is rarely enough of an explanation IMO. I am most delighted you didn’t listen to the physician who advised, ‘find another occupation.’ You are an masterful example of honed persistent ‘correct’ practice and informed on how to listen and prepare your body for playing music. Continue inspiring, enlightening, teaching and coaching! With pride and gratitude! Peace.

This was amazing... A M A Z I N G ! I felt relief after the first 30 seconds on EACH forearm! I showed this to my wife (who is a major health and fitness nut) and she suggested I use a tennis ball against the wall to hit this pressure point and that made it even easier. Suggestion: You didn't specify "where" on your arms that you were getting your tendonitis, this might be an added benefit to share for someone who suffers the same problem. Thank you so much for this video!!! 😎👍

Thanks for sharing your experience and for watching! Sorry, I wasn't more specific, my problems are tennis and golfer's elboy mainly but also had finger pain and some wrist pain. Thanks so much for watching and for sharing about your challenges with pain and drumming. A few years back, I had a student who came to me with calf and ankle pain in her kick drum leg and we figured out that she was actually using her ankle and calf to hold her heel up rather than lifting from her hip flexors and upper leg muscles. I'm wondering if you might be doing the same thing. Check out this recent 1-Minute video kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIbIo2qrg7OXZqs I shared with drummers on my Jazz Drum School email list. In it I show you how I play the stomp/toe (heel/toe) technique. I also go over how to use your upper leg muscles to lift your leg and heel so that no tension or pressure is placed on your lower leg. Let me know if it helps and you might also join my email list too! Info and link are below. Great tip! Deficiency in vitamin B can make one suseptible to tendonitis, too. If one had MTHFR, a common genetic variance, ine will most likely be vitamin B deficient and can improve tendon health with methylated Vitamin B supplementstion.

Hey mans! Ive been battling with ganglions, which has been removed surgically. I feel like I always have some issue with my hands. I fell once with a bike, and when the weather changes my joints just start hurting. However, the recent ongoing pain I have is a forearm pain. Usually when I hit the snare with a rimshot or start drilling chops. Its just a sharp pain that kinda stabbs my forearm and starts running down my wrist too. I can deal with it to a point when the pain in unbearable and i have to stop. My gf is a massage therapist, we found the trigger point and it hurt like a motherfcker. I hope this will help. Im going to have a doctors appointment next week.

Thanks for sharing your experience and for watching! I think it's great you're trying the pressure point. You might also take a close look at your drumming technique. The pressure point will only help if you can also change what's causing the injury. Pay particular attention to any tension you feel building up in your arms when you play. You might also video yourself playing and watch it. Practicing in front of a mirror is also helpful. These 2 things can make you more aware of your posture, how you are holding your shoulders, arms, wrists and fingers. Let me know how it goes my friend and thanks again for sharing 🤙

I just checked out your Gospel playing. Sounds like a Kirk Franklin tune. Nice pocket man. You might also look at your drum set up. Your ride cymbal seems far away where you really have to extend your arm to reach it. Just a thought to bring everything in as tight as possible so you can limit your reaching while you play. Hope that helps.

Tendonitis is the old term for what's now referred to as tendinopathy. You can usually sort it out with eccentric exercises to strengthen the tendons and get rid of the pain. Ice, nsaid, heat and stuff like that won't do anything. The explanation you give here that you got from the masseuse is not backed by science or current evidence. Sure, some people can get a relief from triggerpoint pushing, but the main issue is basically that your tendons are not fit for the task. Might be due to poor technique, too much load (alot of practice) or simply some bad luck.

Thanks for sharing your insight and expertise! I’ve helped dozens of musicians including many drummers over the years overcome tendonitis with this simple technique. Now, I do recognize that it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach. But I think it’s a great way to start and see if it works. 🤙

True it may not be backed by empirical evidence, but trigger point therapy has been a game changer for me and allowed me to start playing again after a 10 year hiatus. That’s just my hands and forearms, I’ve alleviated pain in other parts of my body as well - legs, back, etc. About 10 years ago an orthopedic surgeon tried to push me to carpal tunnel surgery without doing any nerve conduction tests, or ultrasound to properly diagnose. I just got very bad vibes from him, declined the surgery and began my own research. I don’t even remember how I discovered trigger point therapy but I’m really happy I did. This is not to say carpal tunnel surgery isn’t a good alternative for some when properly diagnosed. Genuinely curious what kind of exercises helps strengthen tendons of the hands, arms etc.
