please guys read this if you have high blood pressure or are on the edge of the 140 he spoke about . the best thing would be to have 10 to 15 minutes in a quiet room to calm down and be relaxed before they take your blood pressure that can make a 20 - 30 point difference but that is almost never the case, so instead tell them straight away no i do not want you to take my blood pressure now i am extremely stressed out give me a bit of time to calm down 10 minutes should be enough . then you should ideally put wireless earbuds in to block out outside noise (you can play relaxing or meditation music or sounds ) close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing , think my body is relaxed my arms and legs feel relaxed . i know its not always possible especially when you had an accident but if it is possible take your time to lower your blood pressure we teach pilots to do these things because they get very nervous before their blood pressure gets measured because they literally ground pilots over a certain threshold hope this helps some of you out take care

From what I can glean, most people get in trouble when they have a major health condition that requires expensive care (like big C, heart attack, stroke etc). To make health insurance affordable, I take a high excess/deductible of 300k ฿ and have cover for 5M ฿. I take the view that I will pay myself for lesser issues. I am in my 60s and doing that the premium is under 30,000 ฿ per annum with a major insurer (PC).

I use Axa Thailand for my travel insurance. 2022 when the Thailand pass was in force I failed day one test and eventually ended up in hospital. On release the hospital staff told me they will put in my insurance claim. After about 1 hour I was able to be released from the hospital 3 signatures required. Axa did everything and I did not have to pay 1 baht. Excellent information and a great interview with Jack. Travel insurance is a must I believe when traveling to Thailand. Great info Trev. 🍺🍺🍺🍺👍🏻

I tried to tell him it’s a mistake but when you said radiation and chemotherapy are mostly outpatient it’s truly a mistake to drop his coverage because he can’t afford too. Insurance companies negotiate prices with hospitals up to a year in advance. If you go in without insurance but in great pain the hospital can charge what they like...and the uninsured have to accept it🎉 You heard it here first 😂😂😂

I have insurance and will only use as an emergency last resort for a critical illness and must use it. 1. Government hospital, pay and go. 2. Government hospital for inpatient and prove that I am insured and can also transfer to private hospital. 3. Private hospital using insurance as have no option due to severity of condition. Im well aware that its not about luxuriating in a private hospital with the slightest ailment watching tv with aircon, a fridge and a guests sofa bed. The policy cost increases and you start gathering a history. Im all for the government hospitals to get in, treated, pay and go back home.

The conundrum. Go to Thailand or any other country of your choice to retire. Do you want to stay long term? Jump through numerous hoops to get one of the various visas. Then you must(?) provide proof of health insurance. If you are 75 or older, most insurance companies will not provide coverage. And if they do the premiums are outrageous, often equaling 50% or more of your monthly budget. 75? That's a good retirement age these days. People don't live longer, they just don't die as young as before. There are no 130 year old people out there and very few that are even 100+ y.o. So yea...go to country X to retire because the cost of living is lower than your country of residence. BUT just don't go there if you get old enough to actually retire.

I know far too many elderly (and overweight) expats in Pattaya who have no health insurance at all. They are living day to day on pensions that barely get them by. And, those are the guys (there are LOTS of them) who sit in the bars for hours nursing beers with their mates because they can't really afford to do anything else. Yes, health insurance is expensive as we get older but the lower living costs in Thailand more than cover the cost. One issue that was not covered in the video is this: Consider full "nomad" insurance that will cover you virtually everywhere in the world just in case you travel within Thailand or neighboring countries. The US is the exception because health care is so bloody expensive there. If you do go to the US, get US specific travel insurance for the duration of your stay there.

I had an International insurance policy from an American Company and they reimburse the cost I paid for medicine and a check up 1 month and a half later even tho I had a plan that said they will pay the doctor directly but the hospital said they don’t accept payment from foreign insurance companies

Well-meaning. Anyone who is young and healthy should definitely take out health insurance. However, the typical emigrant aged 65 and over with multiple previous illnesses always only has limited insurance cover at horrendous prices due to various exclusions from benefits. One can only hope, not know, whether the insurance will pay in the event of a claim. Very often, you will be accused of breaching your pre-contractual obligation to notify and, in the event of a claim, payment will be refused. Private health insurance is not social insurance and its purpose is not to help you, but to make money for the insurance company. Alternative? Selfinsurance by at least 1 million baht in the bank account.

If you are under the influence of either, and walk out in front of a car, would you expect the drivers insurer to fetch the bill. 100s of people go to hospital in Pattaya with broken limbs from falling down, and blame the state of the paths, and not the alcohol. I recently witnessed this in Jomtien, and the poor old man had been drinking, and could not claim a penny, from a huge hospital bill, even though he was fully insured. In the UK, we pay into the NHS, so would get treated either way, without a bill. A private treatment may have a different policy though, if you were using a health insurer, so you have the choice of both. Good point to raise, though. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

And in your country what would the outcome be Here it would be arguable by a proficient broker, and lots to consider such as the degree of intoxication , the extent of the injury the condition of the driver eye witness accounts and others. Accidents differ. But compensation can be arguable if the victim is a pedestrian ufas he is not breaking any laws It is more difficult if the driver is drunk!!

The problem is if you have the slightest of a pre existing medical condition the insurance is useless. The insurer will find some loophole to not cover you. The Thailand government needs to set up a expat insurers scheme to be affordable and cover all pre existing medical conditions for all expats.

I maybe wrong.. but For Americans this insurance seems fine for a short term stay... But a health insurance policy from this agency wont satisfy the MANDATE insurance needed for USA tax purposes. I plan to pension next year and move to thailand I will be 60 years old, I'm too young for medicare so I'll need to purchase Cigna global or blue cross which is expensive, but its the only way to be insured in the US and thailand. Brits are fortunate as they have universal healthcare and no need to worry..they can just get this thai insurance..so its cheaper for Brits than Americans..unless the american is 65 or older.

well if you waste your money on prostitutes then obviously that’s going to cost a lot more, probably double or triple a living amount that is actually needed. A retirement visa costs about £1k to acquire and about £500 to renew yearly thereafter. Not exactly a huge amount.

Not true. My 38 year old Thai partner fell seriously ill with a smoking related illness and sadly died in Banglamung Hospital. Far superior to any NHS Hospital. Cost of treatment, including in intensive care, was covered by the state. I only had to pay for tests and medication. Total cost under £1,000. Something to think about if you have a Thai partner. Don't know what happens if your partner is Laos etc.

@@Buzzinpattaya - Yes, but how expensive? None of the videos I ever saw on this subject tell you anything about being over 50’s. If you’re planning to retire that’s useless. You need to know how it will go up over several decades so that you can plan for it. Is it the case that it becomes non-viable after a few years in and you just self insure? If so, why not do that from the start when the risk of falling ill is much lower?

As was mentioned in the vlog, private health insurance is individual and there is no cookie cutter solution, just thought I might ask if you did want to share first hand how satisfied are with the local offering and what on you based your decisions in terms of scope and sum of coverage. Nevertheless I have no doubt that Macallan is a reputable firm and will consult personally with them in future. I also know of a few expats that self insure due to pre-existing conditions and or their age making the premiums too high for them. Calculated or unavoidable risk regrettably for some.

All companies that I know of treat S. T. D's as a General Exclusion. Look under the General Exclusion section of your policy and it is there in not so fine print along with intentionally self inflicted injury.
