Starting in May, NSCN (Nova Scotia College of Nursing) waived the requirement for NNAS (National Nursing Assessment Service) for nurses of the following countries: Philippines, India, Nigeria, USA, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Nurses still need to pass NCLEX exam for licensure.

The shortage of nurses in Nova Scotia is severe. On March 20th 2023, Nova Scotia announced that it will pay $10k "thank you" bonus to nurses working fulltime last year. Also, if they sign a pledge to work 2 more years, you will get another $10k bonus; for a maximum of $20k bonus. A $10k bonus is extended to returning nurses (such as from retirement and travel nurses) to the Nova Scotia system as well.

Hospitals in USA tend to have more advanced equipment. Each nurse is assigned 6 patients. In Canada, equipment tends to be older. Each nurse has more patients. Nurses have less helpers (Nursing Aides) due to lack of funding. They have more duties. Factor in currency exchange rate, USA side pays more than Canadian side. As for service, USA side is better because Americans love to sue. US hospitals take patient visit evaluations seriously.

@@rexakwaowo4351 USA has more nursing schools. Both sides require passing NCLEX exam to obtain state (or provincial) nursing license. In USA, some universities admit many nursing students and then eliminate 1/4 after the first year. They push them to less desirable programs. You need to find out the elimination criteria. In USA side, the PR process is complicated. Employer needs to sponsor you H-1B visa. Then you have to apply Labor Certification with Labor Department, proving that you are not stealing jobs from qualified Americans and PRs. After Labor Cert is granted, then you can apply for green card. You need 5-yrs of PR to become American citizen. In Canada, after studying 2-yrs, you will be granted with 3-yr PGWP. Pass NCLEX and get provincial license. Work 1-yr in hospital and apply for Express Entry. If your CRS score is above the min as set by IRCC, you will get invitation to apply for PR. You need 2-yr (supposedly 3 yrs) of PR to apply for Canadian citizenship. They count 1-yr of physical presence before you become PR (half day for everyday of physical presence before PR).

RN is a 4-yr Bachelor degree in university. LPN/RPN is a 2-yr college diploma. All graduates must pass NCLEX exam to obtain provincial nursing license. Then you can apply for work in hospitals. There is a salary gap between RN and LPN/RPN. For Canadians, only RN is qualified to work in USA as temporary worker using TN-1 visa of USMCA (US-Mexico-Canada Agreement). Most nursing colleges require English, Math, Chemistry, and Biology from high school as prerequisites.
