So my husband and I were on a mission to find the Best Vegan Sausage in UK supermarkets and decided to taste test 8 varieties of sausages available in Sainsburys. We did two categories - one regular pork imitation sausages and also a flavoured sausage. Watch to find out the winners for both categories!
What other 'Best of' vegan product would you like us to do next? I am thinking vegan burgers!
Here's us taste testing firm tofu:

I had the Richardmon meat free Sausages last night for the first time and I loved them. I actually thought they had a more peppery then salty and I added extra salt and pepper to the outside of them but I tasted the peppery from the inside the Sausage.

Just to let you know that both Richmond and Naked Glory are made by the same company, if you check the ingredients they also have the same ingredients. Naked glory is just a bit of a marketing strategy, Richmond are aimed at carnivores and naked glory are aimed at vegans I think.

How interesting! That's why they look identical and taste almost the same 🙂

I usually buy the Linda Mcartney rosemary sausages but do find them a bit chewy. They also do a chorizo version which is ok but not something I would want too often and a plain one which I didn’t like at all. I will be interested to try the Moving Mountains one and the Plant Pioneers chorizo. I tried a couple of other brands which I don’t remember now and wasn’t very keen on them so I’ve sort of given up trying others up until now. I will give your recommendations a go and see what I think.

@@HealthOrigins Let me know what you think of them and what you would recommend. Have you tried the Gardein products that Sainsbury's stock? They are a bit on the pricey side as thy're imported from Canada but The Fishless Fish really almost tastes like battered fish from the chip shop and the Manderin Chick'n pieces in orange sauce are nice. Sainsbury's also do their own Frozen Vegeatable Gyoza with a spicy ginger dip which is excellent. What really annoys me is that most companies charge premium prices for prepared Vegan food. Hence, like you, I much prefer to make my own dishes from scratch. - :) Lynzie (By the way, my hubby comes from the north East too)

Hi Lynzie, nice to connect with you! I am trying to think if I have ever had Gardein rage from Sainsburys, I don't think I did. I am not a massive fan of fish tasting products, but the Chicken pieces and vegetable goyza sound great! I know, some products can cost a premium, even though it's probably cheaper to make than meat equivalents. Although vegetables don't have massive subsidies from the government like dairy and meat does, maybe that's why sometimes the prices can seem steep.

You should also review how recyclable the packaging is: I don't buy products in plastic packaging.
@HealthOrigins
@HealthOrigins 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is another variable, Moving Mountains again would be the best then as the sausages are in a cardboard box that can be recycled.

@@HealthOrigins I find the Richmond ones i find a bit too much like real sausages, but i did see online somewhere they have a new sage and onion version which i am eager to try, just need to find it locally 🤔

@HealthOrigins Жыл бұрын
Yes, we tried them, they're nice and sagey 🙂 I try to make my own sausages and burgers mostly as you don't really want to be eating store bought versions with all the protein isolates and additives too often. Gosh veggie and smokey sweet potato sausages are great in that regard, they contain only real ingredients, no isolates or weird additives, and they don't contain any mushrooms either. I buy them in Aldi.

@@HealthOrigins i need to check Aldi 😀 . Aw i really need to try those sausages, hopefully they will reach us down here soon. The Heinz beans and vegan sausages is another one I’m eagerly awaiting as a quick lunch option if j have nothing else. When i gave up wheat for a few months i had to make my own everything. Its surprising just how much meat free stuff contains wheat. Its something i want to do again eventually (felt so much better), just need to get myself organised with some nice recipes and time to do some batch cooking on weekends for busy weeks 😀

I wish you had just said what sausage they are when you were tasting them so we know what flavours went with what sausage, isn’t that the whole point of this video? Also it’s waaaay too long…

Thank you for the comments, I wanted this to be true blind taste test, so that we are not influenced by the names and the brands, just going by the taste alone, but perhaps I could have added the names in subtitles onto the video for people to know which sausage we are currently talking about. We might need to do a repeat taste testing! 😉

Been eating veggie sausages for over thirty years (Quorn and Linda McCartney mostly), last couple of years many more brands have appeared . Some are not very tasty at all, bland to be honest, the textures of some are questionable and the flavours are not really exciting. The ones you mention are probably the tastiest , cutting in half length ways gives you a more even cook as sometimes the insides can be under cooked. Enjoyed the video keep the good work up.

The question we need to ask is this: These products are made with soya.....given that is getting harder and harder to find non GMO soya across the world - what the heck are these things made with and does it state on the packet that these are non GMO soya? Otherwise - I assume you are happy to eat GMO products that are proven to be detrimental to human and animal health. So - is this another under the rug trick to get us to eat GMO poisoned foods that contain Glyphosate? Be nice to hear some views on this.
@HealthOrigins
@HealthOrigins 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rab, we would definitely not advocate eating store bought meat substitutes often. Luckily in Europe, if an ingredient is GMO, it needs to say it on the label. I know it's not the case in America, which is scary. I guess the only option then is to look for organic soy products as they cannot be GMO then.
