As a nurse, you sometimes need iodized salt. (Like Morton's salt). A deficiency in iodine can cause thyroid issues. I agree w the sea salt. But important to not totally disregard iodized salt. 😁

Just a heads up - sourdough having gluten or not is fully dependent on the type of flour used to feed the starter and bake the bread. You can use gluten free or various regular/gluten flours. Supposedly, because it’s fermented and simple ingredients, it’s gut friendly and not as harsh even when it is made with a gluten flour. I make my own sourdough and starter - highly recommend! Especially when you put kerrygold on it 😋

This was wonderful!! I FULLY expected to have nothing that I was doing that was "healthy", but was shocked that I do MANY of these already! It was encouraging on how far I have come! My tip for the pasta is just use the healthy one and don’t tell your husband LOL or tell him after. I swear no one notices esp with lots of meat sauce, cheese, etc. My husband was super resistant for years and eventually just rolled with it bc he honestly couldn’t taste the difference.

@Margaret Matheny About sourdough, I was so bummed to realize that many brands add vinegar or processed yeasts to make a "sourdough flavor" instead of actually using a real, wild yeast culture. I LOVE Rudis sourdough, but I believe they are one of the brands that doesn't actually use wild yeast culture. Unless the bread has the time to slowly rise using yeast, it doesn't break down the phytates that are gut harming. 😕
@margaretmatheny2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I believe that :/ The texture is too soft to be a true sourdough! But it's what we use when we don't have our real stuff! Thought it might be helpful for people to look for "sourdough" over everything else! I bought my first sourdough starter last week, so I'm going to start making it fresh!

I’d recommend a book called The Salt Fix by Dr. James (long last name with a lot of letters that I don’t remember at the moment). Great analysis of how salt isn’t as villainous as its been touted. Also when I was pregnant my midwives encouraged salt in my water as well as generous portions on all my meals - at least a 1/4 tsp more than my normal amount each day.
@cristin80732 жыл бұрын
@@malia8756 thank you for your recommendation! Do you have any idea why it’s more important during pregnancy?
@malia87562 жыл бұрын
@@cristin8073 If I remember correctly it used to be recommended to lower your intake as a way to lessen your chance of having preeclampsia but studies are starting to come out that more is actually helpful in reducing your risk thus the added emphasis in pregnancy.

Love what you do! This makes it easier to swich to a healthier life ❤️ I have one question: Why is avocado oil better? I read of the deforrestation and all the pestecides they use to grow them make the industy not sustainable? Or do you use a certain brand where the avocados are grown ethically and envionmentally eco friendly? I am just qurious but maby totally wrong…
@margaretmatheny2 жыл бұрын
No that's such a good point! Chosen Foods claims to have sustainable practices, which is why I buy their brand. But there are so many on the market(including avocados themselves) that are unethical. Ya know what, this is really intriguing to me, I'm going to email the company:) Thanks for bringing this up(and in such a kind way), I want to dig deeper.
