Healthy People, Beautiful Life: Maya Healers of Belize

This is a participatory ethnographic film that about the work of a group of Q'eqchi' Maya healers in southern Belize. It demonstrates and discusses principles and practices in their medicine, and the threats they face in ensuring its continuity.

Excellent piece. I appreciate the unadulterated composition which did not succumb to first-world type narration or musical scoring, allowing for the focus to be on the healers. The plants and remedies of Belize are potent as I have used them first hand. They have saved my children and me from parasites, female uterine issues, blood impurities and spiritual distresses. Traditional healers in Belize are a very special group of humans to be preserved and protected.
