That lever that you pull on, in prder to open the latch, unscrews in virtually every latch I have seen. Unscrew and remove it! Remove the bar. It's only the lever that keepsit in place. Grind off the bits without the bar being present.. Put the bar in a vice to reshape it. Lay your spring where it is needed, feed the bar through then replace the lever. I am sure they used to sell things like this years ago!!
