Before I even read the description, when I listened to this song, I imagined an overpowered whistle that came with a hefty cost; a cognitohazard, hearing the song again and again and again until itt drove the one who "hears its cry" mad and even to suicide. A la Lavender Town. The spam of the flute motif and variants of such in the song really sold this idea. That idea ended up being somehow better than the actual creepypasta.

I’ve read through the creepypasta. Basically we have one dude recording dates of every time he plays a rom hack known as SMB3:BW which his friend (which will be known as Todd) had him play because Todd himself was too scared to play it himself. Throughout the recording we have the recorder freaking out over every time something he deems scary happens in the Rom hack which apparently was too much for him and decided too commit the s word. Hours later Todd had found him dead on the floor with a whistle (if memory serves me correct) stabbed into his neck. Tl;dr Some dude killed himself because of a “scary” rom hack that didn’t have any evil spirits, A.I., or godlike beings possessing it

A friend of mine thought up a bit of a rewrite for the creepypasta after I showed him the song. As the player got deeper into the game, it slowly began to take control of their body without him realizing it. Eventually, he realized that he had been killing people in his sleep (because of the game's control over his body), and wanted to turn himself in out of guilt, but the game forbade him from doing so unless he finished it. Once he did that, the game promptly took control of his body permanently, leading him to kill himself on the spot just as police arrived to investigate the situation. The game mysteriously disappeared once they did arrive, and all they found was the player's corpse with a broken flute jammed in his skull. Wherever the game went, nobody knows, though a chilling message was seen written in thick black ink on the wall behind the player's body. "HEAR ITS CRY"

How about, the game has only 1 blood whistle per world, and if you found one, the console would shut down, and wouldn't turn on until the next day, trying to turn on the console before the next day would simply show text on screen saying "You shall rest in ease... but when you hear its cry... Come back." before turning off afterwards, after 24 hours pass by, you start to hear the Warp Whistle theme on your head repeatly until you go back to the game, meaning you'll get a headache if you leave the game for long enough. once you come back, you'll realize you're in the next world (like, if you got the Warp Whistle of World 1, starting the game on the next day would put you in World 2), and so you have to find the next warp whistle, which leads to the game turning off again, now, there are certain side effects happening, the more warp whistles you get and hear, the more you'd be affected, like you'd get random moments where you go psychotic, slowly going insane, etc, etc. which only gets worse the more you hear the whistle's cry. ofc, leading the victim to hurt others, or even themselves, or worse. Eventually, you'd reach World 8, the final world, the blood whistle is ofc, on the last level, at the end of everything, the moment you defeat Bowser and enter the final door, instead of Peach, the final blood whistle appears, and the moment that Mario uses the blood whistle, everything goes black, and the last thing you hear is a slightly-slower version of the Warp Whistle theme. the screen will show some text saying "Blood Whistle, Hear its cry. Fear its cry." until the console is turned off.

I just got a very random idea for a d-side (or some other variant name) for blood whistle. It would be in LoZ OoT, and the item would be the ocarina of bones. This cursed artifact would slowly turn the user into a distorted statue of wood, forever howling in the wind. The location would be the temple of time on a stormy night. The lights are dim, some guards appear mangled while laying on the walls with weird protusions out of their shoulders, and link is fully entranced by the malicious instrument. His last words being "OCARINA OF BONE, LET IT SCREAM!" This is a completely silly crackshot idea I'm writing down before I forget. Specifics can be discussed below.

In my headcanon, the blood whistle is an ancient form of the magical whistle that around the same time that the Angry Sun/Moon first came into being, the whistle was made as a sort of "beta" to the magical whistle, however when used by the user, the tornado generated by it would render the user as nothing more than a puddle of blood. Vanished without a single trace of body or soul. Eventually the souls did come back, but only as extentions of the blood whistle. The blood whistle is sentient due to all of the souls claimed by it, now it searches for a "host" as it has a mind, but not a body. Once it finds a host that is deemed worthy it will wedge itself into the body of the host, attempting to use its extentions to take control and use its body for its own, sinister goals. But that's my headcanon on the Blood Whistle

Here’s my take on the blood whistle. Here’s how it goes. An unknown entity takes over a cartridge of smb3. He however doesn’t have enough power to control the game he was in, unless he played the flute. He couldn’t do anything until he got the flute, so the only way to do it is to let the player go through the game until the player gets a flute. That’s when he’s in control. Once the player gets the flute, he will play the flute, Taking over the player’s mind. And the game will not work anymore. Once the player hears the tune of the flute, he will command them to do whatever he wants to, usually his commands being graphic. There minds are controlled anyways, so they’ll oblige to it. After doing said command, they’ll turn back to normal, having no memory of when they were controlled. There’s no distance limit to when the player is able to hear the tune. They will be cursed to do whatever the entity wants until they die. Once the person he controls dies, the game he’s inside resets, meaning he’ll lose the flute, and The game can be played again until he finds the flute again.

I just had a good idea for a better BW story. Basically someone plays the ROM, and after they use the blood whistle once, they start having auditory hallucinations after they turn the game off. Each time they use it, the resulting hallucinations get louder, but more coherent and less distorted, until they realize that it's just the flute being played over and over. Then when they beat the ROM, they find the flute instead of Peach, Mario looks sadly towards the camera, and the game shuts off on its own. That night they pass out from exhaustion, as they haven't slept for multiple days since starting the ROM, wake up the next morning, and realize they're holding a flute. They feel compelled to play it, and they realize they know what to play. They play the warp song perfectly, and that's the last anyone ever hears from them.

Considering the original creepy pasta was dog doodoo maybe a revision would be in order? I could see something along the lines of the blood whistle being a way to quickly go though the game like the original, but at the cost of the lives of whatever toad was unfortunate enough to give it to you, it being a “cursed item” in the game, maybe give the idea of it being cut content that a ROM brought back leading to an ending where you save the princess, but there are no toad citizens left for the kingdom, leaving a mushroomless kingdom devoid of life.. who knows? Maybe Mario’s overalls weren’t always red

My alternate Version of Blood Whistle: Dan was a guy who loved Mario 3 when he was young, and now as a adult, he wanted to play it again, so he bought it from Ebay, not knowing it was a prototype that had glitches. He played it, then when he entered 1-3, he saw strange things, then he found the room, but the Toad was dead, it's blood dripping down to the floor and a Warp Whistle, but grey and red. Mario's skin too was grey, and he saw what he would never unsee, Mario was stabbed by the Warp Whistle, as if it was alive, and basically puppeted the corpse of the red plumber. My version: The BLOOD WHISTLE was once a normal warp whistle in the Mushroom Kingdom, however, once Mario came to the secret boxes room, the Toad met an unfamiliar fate. Blood stained the whistle, giving it the power of sentience, wishing for all of life to "hear its cry". Just when Mario was expecting it least, he became a victim of the Blood Whistle. Rumor says that the whistle was sentient before Toad's death, which could be clear, but like the original (explained in description or another comment), he could've killed himself.
