I have heard people raise the argument that Trump may have truly believed the election was stolen. That’s no defense. Timothy McVee believed that the government was corrupt. Serial killers often believe they must kill. Bank robbers often believe they are owed something from a corrupt economic system. Belief, especially in the fact of contradictory evidence, is NOT a defense in a court of law unless you have a reasonable belief that you or another person is in danger of imminent bodily harm or property theft/damage. I would add that the rich couples, the ones who are well educated, can also arrive at a decision to agree to disagree, and keep political opinions out of marital discourse. You know how DOJ investigations work, right? Start at the bottom, build cases as those get processed, flip people, go for the head of the snake. RICO cases are done quite differently.
