I was only a kid when this song was on the radio but we all knew the line "Mama told me not to come" even if we didn't know what the rest of the song was about. To this day when I walk into a situation I don't want to be around or just a bad day at work, I say "Damn, Mama told me not to come".

The lead singer here was Cory Wells, right in the middle of the photo. Powerful soulful voice, one of the blackest white singers ever. The only one blacker was Johnny Winter and he was an albino. Go figure :)

Normally, that would be Chuck Negrin in the dark blue shirt, and the big mustache. I knew Chuck in college as basketball players back in the early 60s before he was famous. Real nice guy. He would sing at the basketball rallies and other big school student meetings. Three Dog Night was enormously popular at one time and had some fantastic hits.

Cory Wells is singing this tune. He could really belt out a song, but one of my most favorite TDN song with Cory Wells (sadly missed, passed away 2015 ) singing Try A Little Tenderness, which is a great song-Ive heard Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin sing Try a little tenderness too. I also really love when all three singers of TDN equally share a song, like Celebrate. Actually, you know what? I'll take any of the TDN songs. I've loved watching their old concerts as well. I'm really surprised that these guys aren't in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! Big mistake imho. These guys had 21 Billboard Top 40 hits (3 hitting #1) between 1969 -1975, The musicians are top notch. I'm remembering Jimmy Greenspoon on keyboards, Joe Schermie Bass, Michael Allsup, Guitar and Floyd Sneed on drums. Ahhh, those were the days.
