Me too, 14yrs old when "Barracuda" came out & Ann & Nancy Wilson RULED w/this song! Sure, it's the "Achilles Last Stand'' riff but w/this excellent band they had then they take it and re-shape it to their own distinct sound & Ann's epic & passionate voice turns it into a killer original, primal & heavy all over. "Barracuda'' still hits me right in my musical soul & electrifies it EVERY time I hear it!

I was 9 years old in 1977 when my mom brought home the album and blasted it from my old turntable for the first time. I'd never heard anything like Ann's voice, the guitar...it was the beginning of a love affair with their music that is still going strong all these many years later. My mom is gone now, but every time I play this song in particular I am reminded of her and the smile on her face as she loved Heart equally. Now I share the love of this group with my teen daughter and can't help but think that someday when I am gone, she'll blast this and be reminded of me and our awesome memories with Heart in the background, still rocking!

That's one thing about music. There are those groups/songs that people introduce you to that you end up loving. That person's memory is often indelibly grafted onto that song. So, when you hear them, you think of that person. Want someone to remember you.......introduce them to some incredible music. ;-)

Pat Benatar had: HEARTBREAKER, HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT, LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD, WE BELONG, INVINCIBLE. YOU BETTER RUN (2nd song ever played on MTV btw), and TREAT ME RIGHT. I would say only Heart and Stevie Nicks can claim as many iconic hits. Heart had Crazy on you, Alone, Barricuda, Magic Man. Stevie had Edge of seventeen, Dreams, Gold Dust Woman, I cant wait, Landslide. All amazing songs by imo the 4 greatest female rockers of all time!!! Time is so strange, I was about 6-8 when I first heard this song on guitar hero 3. Idk it’s just crazy to me how I’m 22 now and now and even as a kid I found this song to be soooo good. Like aggressive but super catchy. Not like I see older people as aliens, but like I just kinda always thought like they just think and act different cuz they’re older and went thru different things than I did, but I find it so cool that you grew up listening to this in a very similar way I did but about 40 years apart! It makes me wonder if kids in 200 years will ever like hear this song or another and have the same reactions and what it must be like for them. Idk like you are about 40 years older than me but that’s all that pretty much separates us even though 40 years is a lot. Like people even in ancient times still just looked like a normal joe blow and not like so different physically that I would be able to ever know what time period they were born in. Life is wild man

Keep hip with the music of the year you live in and you will _never grow old_ . Here is some excellent 2020s music. "Lost in Space" by Foster the People. "Sinner" by the Last Dinner Party. And "Panoramic View" by AWOLNATION. Just 3 off the top of my head in the last month or so. Source: I was 17 at that concert in 1977.

Ann Wilson revealed in interviews that the song was about Heart's anger towards Mushroom Records, who as a publicity stunt released a made-up story of an incestuous affair involving Ann and her sister Nancy Wilson. The song particularly focuses on Ann's rage towards a male radio promoter who came up to her after a concert asking how her "lover" was. She initially thought he was talking about her boyfriend, band manager Michael Fisher. After he revealed he was talking about her sister Nancy, Ann became outraged, went back to her hotel room, and wrote the original lyrics of the song.

This is crazy, and true! She also said the name, Barracuda, came to mind first. As its a slippery, almost snake like, dangerous thing. Ann and Nancy Wilson caught my attention back in the late 70's. Ann's vocals to this day are incredible, and Nancy as a guitarist is amazing. I'm 62 now and these ladies were a reason I also became a musician. ❤️ Heart

Ann is one of the best female rock singers of all Times! What a powerful voice she has! Not many female singers are so full of talent like Ann is. Heart is timeless music!

@@yurokasportboys9166 I personally don't like Stevie Nicks. Her voice is nasal, in my opinion. Ann Wilson is my favourite female rocksinger. And I like Amy Lee as well, the leadsinger of Evanesence. But taste is personal!

@jlwilder84364 жыл бұрын
Perfectly said. She's had some life (ups & downs and everything else) but epic is exactly right. She just turned 70 (damn!) a few weeks ago and looks great and still has a powerful, incredible voice.

Driving downtown Houston, Tx in my 71 Cuda playing this song as loud as my crappy Hi-Fi tape deck could muster! I was 18 years old in 78. I'm now 64 and anytime I hear this song, I'm transported back to those teenage years. It seems like it was only a few years ago. Damn! I kick myself in the head everyday for having sold that car.

I was lucky enough to see Heart in 2014... Ann Wilson can still sing very close to the original. Also at the time, Jason Bonham was their drummer! Son of Zepplins drummer John Bonham. The encore song was Rock n' Roll!!! :) it was crazy

I'm guessing you've seen the Heart cover of Stairway to Heaven? They NAILED it. Plant, Page, and Jones were all obviously moved by their performance. It remains one of the best covers I've ever seen.
@toddstratford76853 жыл бұрын
@@spigglemyxic1261 Yes, I am a Led Zeppelin fan first and foremost. I saw the performance the night it aired actually and yes the Wilson sisters nailed it. I actually got goosebumps watching the performance. As I said, Ann Wilson is a powerhouse singer and she doesn’t get the recognition she deserves. Obviously with the progression of time her voice has diminished somewhat, but in her younger days, she could sing with the best of them.
