Ann Wilson revealed in interviews that the song was about Heart's anger towards Mushroom Records, who as a publicity stunt released a made-up story of an incestuous affair involving Ann and her sister Nancy Wilson. The song particularly focuses on Ann's rage towards a male radio promoter who came up to her after a concert asking how her "lover" was. She initially thought he was talking about her boyfriend, band manager Michael Fisher. After he revealed he was talking about her sister Nancy, Ann became outraged, went back to her hotel room, and wrote the original lyrics of the song.

This is crazy, and true! She also said the name, Barracuda, came to mind first. As its a slippery, almost snake like, dangerous thing. She went straight back to the hotel, and penned the lyrics to, arguably, their most popular, recognizable song. Isn't that just amazing? People, and Heart in particular, are amazing.

Time is so strange, I was about 6-8 when I first heard this song on guitar hero 3. Idk it’s just crazy to me how I’m 22 now and now and even as a kid I found this song to be soooo good. Like aggressive but super catchy. Not like I see older people as aliens, but like I just kinda always thought like they just think and act different cuz they’re older and went thru different things than I did, but I find it so cool that you grew up listening to this in a very similar way I did but about 40 years apart! It makes me wonder if kids in 200 years will ever like hear this song or another and have the same reactions and what it must be like for them. Idk like you are about 40 years older than me but that’s all that pretty much separates us even though 40 years is a lot. Like people even in ancient times still just looked like a normal joe blow and not like so different physically that I would be able to ever know what time period they were born in. Life is wild man

My mom is gone now, but every time I play this song in particular I am reminded of her and the smile on her face as she loved Heart equally. So this ain't the end I saw you again today I had to turn my heart away You smiled like the sun Kisses for everyone And tales It never fails You're lying so low in the weeds I bet you're going to ambush me You'd have me down, down, down on my knees Now, wouldn't you, barracuda? Back over time We were all trying for free You met up a porpoise and me No right, no wrong You're selling a song, a name Whisper game If the real thing don't do the trick You'd better make up something quick You're going to burn, burn... Burn it out to the wick Oh, barracuda Sell me, sell you The porpoise said Dive down deep now save my head You, I think that you got the blues too All that night and all the next Swam without looking back Made for the western pools Silly, silly fools If the real thing don't do the trick Now, you'd better make up something quick You're going to burn, burn... Burn it out to the wick Barracuda, yeah

Pat Benatar. We Live For Love was her opera training and We Believe was her undying love for Spider as her first child was inside her. I've seen Heart/Berlin and Ms. Benatar both, I am a lucky, lucky man.

@@steadfastcoward I miss the all day long concerts of the 70s but we had Motown, RnB,blues, stadium rock. This new generation of music listeners, so called artist will not leave behind a credible body of work
