Ha! I always say that when I think about the prospect of getting old. I wouldn't trade it for all the money in the world. No computers, cellphones - people actually were spontaneous and looked each other in the eyes and had engaging conversations without the constant distractions. And of course, a plethora of great music. Kids who are glued to their screens don't know how we existed before the smart phone!

I met Nancy the day of their first show in Rochester. I worked for the venue and was talking with a couple roadies I knew from previous bands they had worked. Nancy came in with a guitar she had just gotten from House of Guitars that she wanted her techie to check out. She sat and talked a little while and I thought what a pleasant lady. She asked what bands had played the arena that year, did I get to meet them, what’s Lou Graham like (he’s from Rochester area). I told her I thought the intro to Crazy was incredible and I couldn’t wait to see them do it live. It was just a cool half hour or so. That night I was on the floor at stage right when they started the song. She strutted around as usual ripping out the soul of that guitar. Then the pause. She looked right at me, smiled and high kicked that song into outer space!!!! I doubt she’d even remember but I doubt I can ever forget. I get the nearly same rush when I see that kick today as I did then. Thank you Nancy

God, I didn't pay attention to the lyrics before. But this song is a real poem. Some of the most beautiful lyrics I heard. Add this to Nancy's opening, Roger fisher's, the guitar riffs, and Ann's powerful and tender vocals, and you have, in my opinion, one of the greatest Rock songs ever.

@@mlhowe67 Yes, for those of us who grew up in, and closely followed (age-wise) that era, the reference was well understood. Sadly, the reference holds true, generation after generation and war after war. However, the desire to put death aside, forget for the moment and make love, with tender ferocity, is a human trait and a lovely way to reclaim life...and possibly create it. Decades ago (I'm old) two women friends confessed that the death of parent/in-law led to "increased activity" with their spouses, resulting in the birth of their first child. "You kept me alive with your sweet flowing love", in my friends' cases would have been "We made new life with our sweet flowing love". Whatever, one of my favorite songs and performances!

No one did it better. I'm gIad I got to see them in the 80's at the Garden State Arts Center in Jersey. A friend was working backstage and got us tickets. Fantastic show. Cheap Trick opened for them, and I love Cheap Trick but Heart bIew them away. Hands down. These songs take me back to my teenage years and great memories with good friends. ❤

There's a lot of excellent, and arguably more talented musicians out there. Buckethead has released over 300 albums. Dream Theater has 5 of some of the most technically skilled musicians out there. Dio, when he was alive, sang some of the best vocal lines ever written within rock/metal. Are these examples, along with hundreds or thousands of other musicians, more talented? Almost definitely. Is their music better? That's mostly subjective.

There is a lot of great talented artists but sadly they are not on the spotlight. They are found in some small dive bars. I saw this young girl in Austin play guitar in the style of Eddie Van Halen. Didn't get a chance to catch her name, but man her technique was unique. Thing is today's singers use autotune and most music today use samples of 70s and 80s music. Originality has left the main stream music industry.

In 1977, these acts also had songs on the Billboard top 100. The Bay City Rollers, Shaun Cassidy, Rose Royce, KC and the Sunshine Band, and David Soul. There were ALWAYS musical acts that had some degree of success through good marketing despite a shortage of talent. Pick any year since the beginning of popular music, and that's true. Talent like this was just as much an exeption back then as it is now. It always seems to us as if there were only talented artists around back then, because all the trashy music that was around then isn't being remembered. We have extremely talented musicians around today, and in a few decades, those will be the ones remembered as such. Meanwhile most of the average and bad music of today will be forgotten. If anything, we are better off today, because due to the abundance of available music, hardly anyone is tied to mainstream music. Many people have their own, more specific tastes in music, and unlike back then, musicians can actually make a living off of catering to those niche genres. The mainstream, as the lowest common denominator, is pretty unimpressive, but nobody has to rely on it anymore.

Michael T. Name some
@michaelt.5672
@michaelt.5672 4 жыл бұрын
@@MustObeyTheRules Which Genre do you want? I for my part (as a metalhead) first think of artists like Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish, who's compositions combine metal music with orchestral elements into insanely complex songs. A different spin on the same idea is using classical instruments in new inventive styles, as done by artists like Lindsey Stirling or the Cellists of Apocalyptica. Then there is a whole range of indy artists like Feist or the duo "Boy". Also worth mentioning is the whole category of acapella ensembles.Though that seems to be far more prominent in Europe, but this in itself kinda prooves the point I was making (namely, the musical landscape is extremely complex and varied). On the flipside, there are many purely instrumental artists and composers such as the youtuber Vindsvept. And that is to say nothing of niche artists like a Hurdy Gurdy player writing folk and alternative music (Patty Gurdy) or a metal band dedicated to telling historical tales in their songs (Sabaton). And even even artists that might be considered closer to the "mainstream", such as Florence & the Machine can still display high degrees of creavity and artistic skill. And I can't even talk about genres like Jazz, Rap, Country or electronic music, because that's not my thing and I know very little about them. But even I know that all these have active subcultures and produce talented artists and composers. Note: I'm not saying one has to like ANY of the artists mentioned above. But they sure as hell put your assesment of music nowadays to utter shame.

My folks taught me well. I rememeber my house smelling like Sandlewood, Jasmine, Marijuana, and the slight essence of acoustic guitars...both played. We may not have had much, but we had music. And this song reminds me of that era.. Then the 80's hit, and Video did, in fact, kill the radio star. The times can change the music, shit all over the industry, leave a trail of non talent along the way. But they can't take my memories! THIS was music... And theres still good music.
