Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a superb novel on the themes of colonialism and imperialism of the Europeans. It is an autobiographical novel in which the novelist has exposed the real motives of the European colonizers and imperialists. Congo was the area which attracted the colonizers for the collection of ivory."Heart of Darkness" is a novella by Joseph Conrad. The story follows Marlow, a sailor, as he recounts his journey into the African Congo to find a mysterious ivory trader named Kurtz. Marlow discovers the dark realities of colonialism, the brutality of human nature, and the moral decay inherent in the pursuit of power. The narrative explores themes of imperialism, racism, and the blurred line between civilization and savagery. Kurtz, a central character, symbolizes the corrupting influence of unchecked power and the darkness within the human soul.Conrad has uses an extensive use of Symbols in this novel.
