Oh man... I love how Mark makes encounters such a set piece! It's rarely just "kill all the baddies and collect the loot". It's always fun how there are onjectives, and things going on, and height, and dynamic elements! Whenever I DM again, I'm going to lean a lot more on RP and decisions on the day to day, and make that combat special. Also, I love all of the characters this campaign... But Ophelia just might be my favorite one yet! "I am Ophelia! And I'm here to tell you that your God sucks! Muahahaha!" 😅

Mark's encounter design is incredibly inspirational. Last session with the boat getting swept away by the current, this time with a full stealth mission, the boss fights from Aerois, destroying the lamps in fights during the lamplighter arc, there's almost always something to force decisions so they aren't just hitting and ending turn. So badass.

It's more impressive when you realise that aside from running the encounters, mark is concurrently making realistic battlefields, new battle mechanics, running the NPC lore, the villains and their lore, AND keeping the players in line with decisions that fit their personality and backstory, like when daisy is about to assassinate the first guy, and he's like 'nah, nim takes over, this is her wheelhouse', zanthius' addiction to the crownsteel, gruff's question about eldrick's vows, Ophelia's bloodlust etc. Every week is a masterclass. And also, sometimes he'll do it full cosplay.

Minor thing RE: 2024 unarmed strike rulings. If you choose to grapple or shove as part of an unarmed strike there is no attack roll, just a saving throw from the target.

after rereading the new 2024 unarmed strike rules I think the attack roll is only when you pick the damage option, when you pick the grapple option they simply make the saving throw and thats it (I think this also makes more sense than an attack roll and ALSO a saving throw which if they save it the attack did nothing)

Another thing is the saving throw is set via the Strength Mod+Proficiency Bonus, not either STR or DEX depending on the saving throw the target chooses.

Well, I’m glad that lady Veratheira managed to not get corrupted. That was my biggest concern. don’t ask why I have less concerned for eldrak and xan but whatever lol Now it would still be quite interesting if Xan could absorb the crown steel from eldrak although the physical change wouldn’t go away perhaps the mental changes would. That would save him and progress xan at the same time.

Can’t 100% agree with the stealth in the open being an auto fail rule (obviously not my game, do what you want and it’s not that unreasonable to be fair). DC 30 is meant to represent doing something “impossible” and no one is honestly getting 30-40 without magic anyway and at that point you’re already suspending disbelief because it’s a game with magic. What I’m really saying here is that I want to see the funny 9ft tall stone man hide right in front of people Skyrim style because it was hilarious the first time
