Thanks Doc. I've been to cardiologists for years to try and treat my with PVC's, with little sympathy and even less results. I was in emergency for the first time about two months ago after an 11hr PVC episode that would not stop. Since seeing one of your videos a month ago about magnesium, I started taking 2 tablets a day. My ectopics have pretty much disappeared, and when I do have some, they are less powerful and are less frequent. No doctor, cardiologist or GP has ever mentioned magnesium as a solution. It's an understatement to say that you have changed my life. Thank you.

@@paulbirkbeck1790 Had no heart rhythm problem before the benzos or in the 28 years of taking them until around the last year, then INTENSE heart pounding in chest, ears, abdomen after stopping that lasted nonstop for months, now more occasional. In May 2021 I saw a cardiologist who told me I have "paroxysmal ventricular tachycardia." This means I have occasional racing of the heart ventricles. He tested me thoroughly with echocardiogram for heart valves (nothing wrong there), did a 24-hour Holter monitor and a radionuclide stress test which were fine other than the occasional run of ventricular tachycardia. The benzos and the constant anxiety I've had since stopping has negatively affected my heart rhythm. No one takes benzos seriously...or seems to realize that tapering slowly off them is so important. My doctor didn't even suggest tapering them when I asked to stop taking them, yet she was never held accountable, not even reprimanded. **Forgot to mention I now take magnesium and potassium supplements now which greatly affect heart if they're low. Thank you, doctor, for sharing the results of the study. It is frightening to have one's heart making odd beats. I have had PVCs for over a decade, and more recently had an increase in PVCs as well as PVC Trigemeny, along with chest heaviness. A recent echo revealed LVH. Trust me, being along and having these odd feelings makes one very uneasy. I do not take any cardiac meds, and have had a slightly elevated blood pressure (no intervention) for a couple of decades. My recent attacks frightened me, and from out of nowhere I felt I should try some magnesium, as I also have muscle cramps. After one 300mg capsule of magnesium I felt cardiac relief, and increased it to twice a day until I felt the symptoms subside some. I feel I could benefit from an additional capsule but did not want to overdo it. Thank you so much for freely sharing information. We neglected patients appreciate it.

I told him him the Mg solved the issue and I declined the beta blocker. He said "Yeah, Magnesium helps."

I had afib for 7 days which went away only to be replaced by ectopic beats which is unpleasant but not as scary as afib in my opinion, after watching these videos and doing alot of research on my afib/ectopic beats, i kept reading about and watching videos about magnesium so i bought some, solgar magnesium citrate (400 ml per tablet from holland and Barret's in the uk ) and within 25 minutes the ectopics beats were GONE ! so yes what you are reading about magnesium supplements is deffinately true, at least in my experience, also the magnesium citrate has very nice anti anxiety effect which keeps me calm which is very useful considering how much fear and panic afib/ectopics beats cause...give magnesium citrate a try !

I've been taking 200mg magnesium for about 4 years. A couple of months ago I lowered it to 100mg and then the last couple of weeks I haven't had any. For about a month now I've been feeling really weird - heaviness on the chest, very strange fatigue when exercising. Can only just make it through the day. I've only just realised it's my heart. I can feel the arrhythmia. I'm almost certain if i go back on magnesium this will clear up. Thank you so much! I didn't know what was happening to me.

Can't believe I'd come back to comment that video after watching it one week ago, but I felt like I have to. My palpitations started like 3 weeks ago, and they'd become really annoying at night when I'd lay in bed, or especially after workout, when I actually felt them the most intense. Came across that video last Saturday, after looking for information for my symptoms cause I felt really worried (btw I visited my personal cardiologist too, who did all the tests and adviced me to ignore them, but literally I couldn't). So watching the video, I said OK magnesium, I can try that. I'm happy to say that after only 6 days, my palpitations started becoming less frequent and less intense til they completely vanished yesterday. This video was really helpful, thanks.

Dr. Gupta, is it possible that some people can cause this to happen to them from anxiety? Then, later, it become a regular thing? I ask this because, back in 2013 my sister attempted suicide in my home and I found her in time to save her. For 20 hours after finding her, while she was in the ER recovering, during the whole time she was out of consciousness, my heart skipped and skipped repeatedly every 10 to 20 beats it would skip/flip flop until I got a call and was told she made it and woke up. After she woke up, my heart stopped skipping completely. I never quite understood what happened to me and thought to myself, it had to be intense deep anxiety for my baby sister. Later, in 2018, my heart started doing this to me again and hasn't stopped until this day. So, ofcourse I'm wondering if heart rhythm problems can be from anxiety alone. But then....I have another very interesting question for you doctor. In 2018, I suddenly started having frequent heart skippings where when it would catch/start back, the kickback was so hard, it felt like I was getting pop slapped in my throat, started having throat pain, loss half my voice, trouble swallowing, severe migraines with ulcer blister in my upper palate in mouth, along with severe pain spots in scalp. Every month, about a week before my period is to start, the same cycle of scalp pain spots start, along with ulcer in mouth that feels like 2nd degree burn, dibilitating migraine that lasts 7 to 9 days. Meanwhile, heart skipping/flip flopping is worse after eating. Told my doctor. Initially, he told me it's anxiety, took my money and sent me home with zero help. It's like he didn't respect me enough to even believe me for what I was saying. I was confused by this and heart broken, feeling like I'm gonna die. I went to see him again, but insisted I see cardiologist. Cardiologist confirmed many, many events and even afib events in the 24 hour monitor he did on me. Offered me beta blocker or surgery for ablation, which I refused. Told me there is nothing mechanically wrong with my heart and to not worry. Then, my general doctor listened to me with my complaints finally believing me and noticed me stating of how my heart skips violently after eating and how I have deep throbbing pain after eating, so doctor began treating me for ulcers with pantoprozole 40 mg. Started the pantoprazole and my heart in three days stopped skipping all together except for one or two skips when I would lie down for sleep. Can't sleep on left side, as skipping is toooo too frequent and harsh. My ulcer/blister in mouth didn't happen. The pain spots in scalp didn't occur either, while taking this pantoprazole 40 mg. THe dibilitating migraine from hell didn't happen either. Can't stay on 40 mg of pantoprozole for life, so...ofcourse, when I stopped taking it, everything came back. Now, again, doing pantoprozole 20 mg. It reduced the skipping/flip flopping, but....after one week on the 20 mg pantoprozole, my heart started going wild. Doctor put me on famotidine along with the pantoprozole, and for another week, heart skipping reduced to over 90% skips, whcih was so wonderful. Problem is....even now, with taking both medications, I'm needing to supplement with tums in between taking both pills. I'm barely eating, because my heart goes out of rhythm and causes me anxiety, which releases adrenaline, which speeds my heart and I can't tell you the hell I go through for trying to regain normal rhythm during those attacks. I am aware of deep breathing and do my absolute best to overcome the adrenaline acute panic attacks that follow these episodes, and to breath the right way. I did EGD and found out I have hiatal hernia, where acids keep coming up to my throat/voice box, irritating my vasal vagal nerve, which controls the hearts rhythm. I might be wrong, but....I do think that maybe, just maybe....my heart is responding to vasal vagal issue, due to inflammation irritation from constant acid from open stomach. I have sliding hiatal hernia with distal GERD. I know you cannot give acutal opinion as per legal ramifications. I just think that maybe my post here might shed some light on the possible GI connection to this whole heart issue you already know so much about. That, maybe for some, it's a gastrointestional issue causing heart rhythm disturbances, and that magnesium helps in this because it overcalms the stomach muscles and basically reduces the stomachs contractions, which results in LESS acids and gasses from shooting up the throat, which would lead to less vasal vagal irritation, resulting in less PVCs/PACs etc. See what I'm saying. I'm also looking for answers and or ideas as to where I might get answers.

The amount of magnesium each patient requires varies widely. If one adds potassium, selenium, and sea salt to one’s optimal daily intake of magnesium, it will halt A-fib within a few minutes and restore one to a normal sinus rhythm. When the body electric is not functioning properly it is *always* due to an insufficiency of proper conductive minerals and oils. (Primarily omega 3s and Vitamin E containing all 8 components.) I’ve been reversing A-fib, PVCs, and any and all other arrhythmias using these (and other) minerals for years. I was my own first patient, incidentally, and was driven to become so because I knew that whatever was causing my heart irregularities was definitely *not* an insufficiency of metoprolol or any other pharmaceutical drug. Most MDs are not healers, but rather pathologists. This frustrating fact is what caused me to become a doctor who believes in and employs nutrition-based healing. Best regards. Jesse.

Hey Jess, I’ve been to the cardiologist for palpitations and random bouts of bigeminy and SVT I’ve been having. They are usually brought on when I’m panicked about something and have severe anxiety, or when lift heavy weights. They said there is no murmur and doesn’t seem to be a structural issue but the wanted to put me on beta blockers until my MRI in 8 months time!! anyways do you think I would benefit from magnesium? Last night I had sooo many bouts of NSVT that I struggled falling asleep. Just as I’d drift off I would be awoken by my heart racing and bouncing out my chest and it would prevent me from falling asleep. I also find that when these heart rhythms go crazy I usually experience twitching too! is there a correlation? Anyways at 5am I got so tired I grabbed my bottle of homemade magnesium oil and sprayed my under arms with it and took a heaped teaspoon of Brewers yeast (for the B1 and selenium) and OMG like magic I didn’t have no more palps despite me still worrying about whether it’s gonna happen they didn’t and within 5 mins I drifted off and woke up 7 hours later! even when I awoke I didn’t have any.. Please tell me what I should do. I have ready that transdermal Magnesium therapy corrects the cellular deficiency within a month and takes time to build up. What’s your recommendations?

Just to add my own anecdotal 'evidence' to magnesium as a treatment, I have had 'classic' AF since 1995 and had a stroke 18 months ago. (ischaemic, affecting speech, right hand and right face etc). I started taking magnesium having seen your video and whether it is coincidence or not, since I started the Mg I have been feeling substantially better, not least in the post stroke exhaustion I had been suffering from. I think everyone should at least try it and see if it helps them. Of course, stick to the basic treatments for rate or rhythm control and the anticoagulant treatments, but magnesium is unlikely to do you any harm and could provide improvement.

I am 56 and since I have been 24 I have palpitations that comes and goes-when it comes it last about 6 months and off for about 3 months. I had a graph taken and I flatline for about 2 seconds followed by a powerful beat and heart never speeds up-they say I am fine but I can go hours without a steady heartbeat and have about 100 episodes a day-very scary even though they say it will not kill me. For the last 2 years I was put on Ssri for anxiety and for the last 2 years I have had palpitations for most of the day-I have never heard of taking magnesium for palpitations but started taking 420 mcg of magnesium citrate and after about 3 days palpitations have stopped and have not had 1 in over a month-I started taking magnesium because I started taking d3 and they said you should take magnesium with it not knowing anything about how it works on palpitations. Before magnesium I was having cramps in my calves and feet at bedtime and had brain fog and very tired but now all is gone. Thank you for your work of getting this info out to people.

The magnesium blood level is never accurate. It will always shows normal magnesium in your blood even if you have severely low magnesium in your body. The best test to do for magnesium level is to measure the magnesium level in the red blood cell called "RBC magnesium". The reason behind this test is that most magnesium resides inside the cells of the body as well as the bones.

Miranda: If your doctor and Gupta says that if there's nothing structurally wrong with your heart, you should be okay. You (or I) won't suffer a heart attack. But having palpitations is super annoying for sure. I wore a Holter for 2 weeks this summer and it showed nothing significant. My resting (sleeping) bpm is 55. He also mentioned stress. I think I stress out over many things and don't even realize it. Knowing this, now, when I hit the internet, I tend to skip things like news and current events because they're stressful. Only happy things for me. What else am I doing to reduce stress? I take naps (I'm 68 and retired so I can do those things in the middle of the day). I also started to take 500 mg of Magnesium Citrate/day along with a multi-vitamin - we'll see how that goes. I stretch. I'm determined to get into side and front splits. I ride my bicycle every other day, usually for an hour or so, sometimes for longer. I've reduced my caffeine intake. I don't smoke (I quit decades ago). I don't drink. I try to limit my fat intake though I love junk food. I've increased my vegetable and salad intake. I've done all the things I'm supposed to do to stay healthy and still I get palpitations. My goal is not to live like a monk but to ditch all the things in my life that stress my body and mind, especially my mind. You're only 30. Though you may doubt it sometimes, you have a long life ahead of you. Of this I'm confident, based upon my own experience. I've watched many of Dr. Gupta's videos and I tend to trust him. I think his advice is good. He's not trying to sell me anything but common sense advice based on the best medical evidence that's out there.

Thank you for that! I have irregular heart beats, too. So, for stabilizing my heart rhythm, should I take magnesium pidolate? Or magnesium citrate? Or magnesium glycinate? There are so many different forms. So, according to the doctor, the magnesium pidolate is the best to stabilize a normal heart rhythm?

Magnesium Pidolate. My wife takes Somac a PPI. I heard you say you must stop this for better magnesium absorption. If she can’t to this, then what is the alternative? 3 gms? That is a tiny amount in powder. How does one measure it? I must add my wife does not like swallowing those large tablets hence power is better!

There are 350 benefits from taking magnesium, but you need to take the right type. Magnesium Oxide is only absorbed 4% of 400mg. Magnesium Glycinate Lysinate Chelate has a high absorption rate. This is what I take (400mg twice a day). Also, L-Arginine is very good suppliment. Note, always talk to your Physician before taking L-Arginine because there are situations after a cardiac procedure where the Physician might want you to stop for a period of time. L-Arginine is another suppliment that is overlooked. It is a amino acid nateraly produced in your body, but disapates as you get older. It can also replace ED meds.

after 3 ablations and a pacemaker installed, I still had slight problems in the upper chamber, my afib was trying to return for the last 4 years. I was home bound and could not do the simple tasks before I got winded and my heart was off rhythm. I remember the electrocardiography suggested 400 to 800 of Magnesium a day. I was trying 250, maybe 300, but not until I bought some 500mg from amazon did I notice that my heart was a soft beat all the time instead of the off and on hard beating, that drives me crazy! It took about 3 to 4 days before it built up in my body and my heart beats corrected it self. Maybe now I can cut down on my Flecenide from 200mg a day to almost nothing. I doubt it, I still need a touch up ablation on the upper and than I would Flec free! But the Mag 500mg a day really does work! I am courious that your suggestion of 3 grams a day will equal 3000mg a day, that sounds like a hell of a lot???

Hello Dr. Gupta: I want to thank you for your candid here and for your genuine care for people regarding ectopic heartbeats. It is so refreshing to see. I have been experiencing ectopic heart beats for some time now and when I came across this youtube video, it gave me hope. So I proceeded to take Magnesium tables by Blackmores called MagMin. Looking at the ingredients it says Magnesium aspartate dihydrate. I cannot find any magnesium pidolate here in Australia. However when I took Magnesium aspartate(1 tablet is 500mg), I felt rather wired, excitable. It is hard to explain but when I searched for aspartate and glutamate are excitatory neurotransmitters and can potentially stimulate neurons which I think is what I am feeling(wired). It seems to calm my palpitations however. With that said, I would like to look for other magnesium supplements that does not excite my neurons. There are so many MAgnesium types out there. Can you recommend which one would be appropriate please? Thank you.

Was taking a mag. supplement and at sometime I realized I was getting heart palpitations. I would wake up and I could hear my heart just pounding away. I realized after a while and a few doctor visits that when I stopped using the supplement the pounding stopped after a few days. I deliberately did one more dose a few weeks later and sure enough the pounding came back that night. My only thinking is that my body had enough mag. in it from my diet and taking a dose of mag was just to much for my body. Perhaps a lower dose would not have caused these problems.

I am a firm believer in Magnesium. I currently take Glycinate which I read is the form the body absorbs the best. I started taking for migraine headaches, high blood pressure and heart palpitations. The problem I have is that I need to take at least 800 mg to eliminate symptoms, but I get bloating/gas and diarrhea. So, I alternate the dosage every few days, lower to 400-600 mg for a few days, increase for a few days, then back down again... I have tried many other Magnesium forms, but it seems that my body tolerates Glycinate the best. I have not tried Pidolate yet.

Ok, so i was having severe palpitations especially after I eat. So then I discovered magnesium oil and transdermal vitamin D3 lotion because I'm deficient in vitamin D3. Right now I'm at 16 I was at 14. I am using a patch with 5000 IU D3 and 250 mg of magnesium and K2. But that patch wasn't doing its job so I've been doing the lotion for two nights now once in the morning and once at night and the Magnesium spray oil three nights now. And I think my palpitations are starting to subside. I'm taking Atenolol 25 mg twice a day and that's not helping. I am pleasantly surprised at how well the oil and the D3 lotion are working in such a short time!

I tried Magnesium in various formulations throughout the years without much success for my frequent PVC'S. My cardiologist I think got tired of trying to convince me that they were not pathologic even when I was regularly having 9 to 18 per minute with a pulse in the low to mid 50's--I showed him Apple watch EKG's to document it. Hard to get to sleep with the frequent bounding high volume beats after the delay. I'm always amazed at how many people are not aware of them. I had two Holter monitors. And I have had 4 brief episodes of atrial fibrillation which has completely disappeared for the past 2 years . But the cardiologist finally recommended an old drug called flecainide for the PVC's which in 24 hours reduced the PVC'S to 0 to 2 per minute--just checked my Apple watch and am having zero. Changed my life. The drug has lots of contraindications so be sure to consult with cardiologist. For example, it is NOT recommended for atrial fib or if you have bundle branch blocks.

hi common meds prescribed for afib- potassium blocker ; calcium blocker... are these pharma meds combined to allow magnesium to properly work in the body ? from what i have researched, it appears we are all lacking in magnesium and that is the root cause of alot of health issues, not just heart related... getting blood work done to check mineral levels is quite vague- and I do not believe the numbers they say are " normal" are true..... please reply ((Magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It helps to maintain normal nerve and muscle function, supports a healthy immune system, keeps the heartbeat steady, and helps bones remain strong. It also helps adjust blood glucose levels. It aids in the production of energy and protein)) ((Electricity is required for the nervous system to send signals throughout the body and to the brain, making it possible for us to move, think and feel. ... Not only does the cell membrane function as a barrier to molecules, it also acts as a way for the cell to generate electrical currents))

Great info and great videos! I was born with a hole in my heart in 1990 and this was fixed with an umbrella in 1997 and I was fine until early 2015. After taking a fat burner for the second time trying to help weight loss in April which caused jaundice and palpatations and there on in I kept suffering the palpatations. I had an ecg with ventricular beats showing and then an echocardiogram which showed a very mild mitral regurgitation which they aren't too worried about to do anything. By June I was away visiting my mother when one morning my heart just started to race I felt dizzy etc nauseous and was very scary the second day thinking I was having a panic attack I took myself to a and e and my heart rate was at 160 bpm they diagnosed me with a tachycardia but not a specific one as the structure of my heart was fine to them. I was put on 23.75 metoprolol (beta blocker) by my doctor for twice a day after awhile my blood pressure dropped too low so now I have been one one dose once a day
