Even with the 5 (and some claim '6') guitar overdubs and the 3 overdubs of keyboards, the profundity of this 'cover' is the incredible homework done by the performers and arrangers to 'get this right' and to even swap out some parts - the choir's replacement of the 2nd lead guitar towrads the end of The Solo, for example. They had enough guitarists on-stage to mimic the song but decided to have the choir's power do that 'fill' instead. Simply superb.

It was great no doubt, and there isn't a better vocalist to do it than Ann Wilson. But I could have done without all the horns and orchestra stuff. It was almost to the point of being gaudy with multiple choirs and such. very close to being way too over the top. I would have loved to have seen Ann Wilson and the band just simply rock out to it with a simple rock band instead of all this bombast.

Fun fact: Paul Shaffer arranged this performance. That’s his band, and he arranged the instrumentals and the two sets of choruses. Basically the entire production as you see it was his idea. You can briefly see him at some point in the video near his band, so he deserves so much credit too for this legendary earth shattering performance! When you’re done watching, look for the band’s appearance on David Letterman on KZbin. They discuss watching this performance a day after this event. David was honored the same night. The Kennedy Center Honors are basically a high honor given by the President to those in the performing arts for their lifetime contributions.
@chip61475 жыл бұрын
I loved your reaction to this performance! Robert Plant's reaction went well beyond the outstanding performance of this iconic song. When Plant's 5 year old son died in 1977, he went back to England and his good friend, drummer John Bonham went with him. For some time after the funeral, Bonham was by Plant's side though the darkest times of his life. Then when Bonham died in 1980, Plant went right to Bonham's home to be with their family. Seeing his dear friends son playing drums was icing on the cake and a beautiful tribute to Bonham. I've been a huge Led Zeppelin fan since the mid 70's and will never forget hearing on the radio on Friday, September 26, 1980 that John Bonham had died the day before. I was in the Navy and stationed at Great Lakes Naval Training Center at the time. I spent that whole weekend in my barracks in mourning, listening to Led Zeppelin. I've watched this video many times and it brings me to tears every time.

Adam Lambert does a version of “Believe” in honor of Cher @ the Kennedy Center Honors. It is absolutely awesome. And Ann Wilson, that woman has beautiful pipes. Now, back in the 80’s the music industry would focus on Nancy bc Ann had gained a bit of weight. I was a mad young lady then. At that time I had that hourglass shape- 38-24-39 & was pretty trim. But, it still upset me that they put so much stress on the her weight. To me, talent is talent & to me(I may have ppl who disagree but....) Ann Wilson has the absolute most talent in Heart. FYI The Kennedy Center is an Opera House, a very stately building, named in memorial for John F. Kennedy, in Washington D.C. The Kennedy Center Honors started in the late 1970's as a lifetime achievement award to honor significant contributions in the entertainment industry to American culture by anyone, American or not. Most of the shows I've seen are attended by the sitting president and his spouse. The Trumps have not attended in 2017 or 2018 as far as I know. I've read that some people commented that they see this as representative of the schism between Trump and the Arts. PS Congratulations on subscribers increasing so much. You deserve it.

Loved it! And do every time I watch it! Brought Robert Plant to tears too! ❤️🤘🏼✌️

I love how Anne & Nancy respect that this is about Jason honoring his dad while at the same time giving a “Hold My Beer” performance to those who went on before them

It's like seeing myself watching this for the first time, just watching you react in real time. You shake your head in awe at the notes Annie reaches and delivers on, at the same time I still do when i see and hear Ann Wilson deliver a song. It's so much fun watching you groove to Heart in all these videos. WOW. HER VOICE. I think you say that about 20 times. That's really all one can say. As sisters say, "It's all about the music." Thanks for sharing all these. Transcendent, magical music.

I strayed from your Home Free reaction and found this gem! I’ve seen this one several years ago and was blown away! Ann Wilson, in my opinion, is one of the best female vocalists of my time, if not all time. I’ve seen Heart twice in my life (once during their peak time (early 80’s and in 2010). They were amazing both times! Loved this performance and your reaction was on point to sone of the best Classic Rock ever!! Long live Rock! 🤘🏻
