Much as I hate to admit it, the DJI Mavic is the best drone on the market. There are many who will dispute that and I don't like to say it's the best but the first time out with my Mavic mini I controlled it like a pro, I also have a DJI Mavic AIR 2S, it's the same. If I sound like a paid advertiser I'm not, I'll stop there.

Another great video. I like that you let people know what to expect (i.e., no cell service, light traffic) so they are prepared if they venture out there. Seeing this makes me realize it's been too long since I've been out there. Gonna plan a trip for when the days are longer so I can make lots of stops.

Next May 5 will mark 40 years I have lived in Arizona. During all those years I have spent every spare minute exploring the backroads of this State. In the early 2000's I was living in Pinetop. The local newspaper up there [the White Mountain Independant, I think] ran a story about a female White Mountain Apache tribal police officer who had reported sighting a bigfoot in the mountains East of Whiteriver. I remember thinking at the time that I believed her. She was very specific about her description of the creature. By then, I had made three trips into the country South and West of Big Lake and the word that comes to mind when I think of that forest is "primeaval." I was searching for Pacheta Falls and on my second trip, I found it. You hike along the creek for the last mile to the falls and in that one mile stretch of creek I saw both bear and mountain lion tracks. I'm no good at judging heights but I can say with certainty I saw more than a few Ponderosas that were eight feet in diameter at the base. If the area around the falls has ever been logged, it was done a long, long time ago. There is one point about that forest that I hesitate to make lest you think I'm crazy. The entire time I was hiking from my truck to the falls and back, I found myself looking over my shoulder again and again. I never saw anything unusual but I had the strangest feeling I was being watched. My point is, if any bigfoot still remain in Arizona, I believe they inhabit the area roughly centered on Bear Wallow, Pacheta Falls and the old logging camp at Mustang, around 50 miles Southwest of Big Lake. If you journey into that country take extra fuel and a GPS with a good map in it. The roads are an absolute maze. Most are NOT marked. I had good directions to the falls and I still got hopelessly lost the first time I went in there. Last but not least, do not under any circumstances venture into that country between late October and early April. The nearest rescue services are over a hundred miles away, in Springerville, and when the snow starts to fly the bears that are still awake get mighty hungry.
@jessiesdroneadventures74645 күн бұрын
I really enjoyed reading this story, kind of makes me want to go out on a bigfoot expedition now, always wanted to visited pacheta falls! and you said something that I hear a lot of when Im watching documentary's about bigfoot, people always get this feeling that they are being watched.....whenever I hear those words in a story about someone camping, or hiking, always gives me the chills! appreciate you sharing! I'll have to make it out to pacheta one of these days! thanks again!

Thanks for this. Cant wait to wstch the whole thing. If you dont have the drive on the 188 from the 260, i for one would definitely appreciate it. Also the drive through Mount Baldy when its finally opened late spring is a great drive. If you care to venture into New Mexico, the mountain drive up above Quemado Lake in the western part of the state is also.a great area to explore. Lots of wildlife. Including free roaming cattle that mostly stay to the large open plains of thick grass. Didnt get to go as far as i wanted. Just wasnt enough time. As beautiful as the untouched parts of northern Arizona are the mountains of western New Mexico are nature at its most beautiful.
@BobPelot-v9x11 күн бұрын
From the Tall Pines to the Desert Scenic Byway...this starts at the 260 on the Mogollon Rim. Been wanting to drive this down to Roosevelt Reservoir for 2 years. From what ive read there have never been any settlements throughout this entire area. Even the local tribes passed through. According to the various resources online, the U.S. Forest Service being one of them, this section of the Tonto National Forest has the greatest diversity of animal life in all of Arizona. The 188 eventually turns into the road youre on. Ive never been on either but after watching this i cant wait. I have a phobia about heights and falling but still, cant wait. Ive done the drive up from Phoenix on the different routes east into New Mexico. The road up past Globe Az is very winding. Since your climbing the mountain youre going through deep canyoned valleys where most of the time the only way youd be able to see the bottom a 1000 feet or much more below you is to pull over to the side and get out of your car. Except this road is almost always a single lane each way and a sheer dropoff with very few pullouts. Ive driven it only once during the winter and it was very early. Speed demons beware.

I did a drive a few summers ago starting out in Winslow and taking Highway 99 till it turned into a forest service road, followed that to the Rim, then proceeded down the dirt road that goes to Young from the north. And of course, followed 288 to Roosevelt Lake. So, so remote! I can't even imagine living in a place like Young and being that removed from civilization in all directions. As for those cliffs near Roosevelt Lake, that's a great spot to do photography. I did some portraits with a friend there last year that turned out amazing.

Yeah I caught that too - minor technicality for an otherwise great vid. Easy mistake, since it (the rim) is technically the SW edge of the Colorado Plateau.

I have been wanting to drive through Cherry Creek Canyon, on the east side of the road. I would guess that most of the cliff dwellings that you mentioned are in the cliffsides over there. I have some points picked out to hike/climb up to some of those cliff dwellings. The road is sometimes in bad shape due to erosion from heavy rains / flash floods. 4WD + high clearance required. Always call the NFS office to check conditions before venturing.

Another great video. I’m amazed at how the drone tracks and follows your car, that’s pretty neat tech. Be careful when off-roading in your car, you may need to call Matt to get you out - maybe time to get a truck or SUV. Did you figure out why your check engine light came on? BTW, any idea where the mileage starts from/goes to? I noticed the higher mileage signs of 284. Thanks
@jessiesdroneadventures746410 күн бұрын
Thank you! and yea, the active track " follow mode" on the mini 4 pro is pretty impressive....it wouldnt be the most fun day if I got stuck, but it would be an honor if matt came and pulled me out haha....and speaking of the engine light, it did go away. so earlier this day, before I started filming, I pulled over onto a dirt road to get all my camera gear ready, doing this kicked up a lot of dust, i think thats what triggered the engine light....not sure about the mileage though....however highway 288 is 52 miles long.....thanks for checking out the video!

As someone who drove mountain and desert roads in the 70's and 80's from the Sierras to the Rockies, I wonder about your hyperbole. Descriptions you use: heart-stopping, dangerous, deadliest, scariest, notorious, creepy. None of these routes you show seem daunting. They are extraordinary in their beauty, but frightening no. Just to name a few well-known that were a bit more intimidating back then with narrower roads. There is Independence Pass between Aspen and Leadville, the route from Yosemite to Highway 395, even the Pike's Peak road. What's a guard rail? Those are main ones, there are many smaller ones which I drove in just two-wheel drive cars or trucks. Then there was also driving in the mountains in Baja California where sometimes I forded streams. For example, going to remote hot springs or to the trail head to hike to Pichacho del Diablo from the west.
