Heart Warming Moment Mum & Joey Koala Reunite

This wee little wild baby koala was walking on the ground all alone and lost while it's Mama was high in the tree - not a good place for a Joey! There was no time to waste as the road was close by and local dogs around. I do not interfere with wildlife unless it is a dire situation and in this case it was. I will always call Fauna Rescue when possible but it was sensible to just get them together asap. but Tam our neighbour got Mum & Bub quickly reunited and we left them alone and watched over them for a couple of hours as they hung out in the tree top. 3 days later and they are still in our trees 😍 Tis' the koala season here in Greenhill! The neighbourhood are on watch for vulnerable koalas this time of year, we take care on the roads and watch out for wandering koalas, we also leave out water stations during heatwaves and contact Koala Rescue when there is a sick, injured or compromised koala.

When I was a kid it was nothing to see koalas in the back yard here in Australia, but now I have to take my kids to special koala parks just to see them. If you really care tell the Australian government to do something before they are extinct.

@@glen2003 hi glen, Ray probably didnt mean santuary's but here in Aus there is hundreds of groups, shelters even familes that help native wildlife....when you drive the back roads here in Australia you will see wildlife help signs EVERYWHERE different phone numbers for different regions for different groups. When a kangaroo gets hit and killed by a car people will spray paint a big X on the dead roo to let other motorist that pass by that the pouch has already been checked for joey's which often survive the impact of the car, and wombats are nothing but muscle so they need help after a car incident also. i.e. Australia is big we need a lot of dedicated people to care for our native wildlife over such a big area..... so yeah there is hundreds of group's, not sanctuary's

@Al Pal Thanks for sharing :) I visited Australia early 2016 (roughly Sydney-Adelaide-Alice Springs-Cairns). Got to see a couple of koalas down at Kangaroo Island and it breaks my heart to know that they were affected real hard and probably gone now. I recently participated in a charity run here in Denmark supporting Red Cross Australia. I'm pretty distanced but feel closely connected, so I'm donating trees through Plant-for-the-Planet, Ecosia and TeamTrees, collecting waste (325kg+) and generally trying to become more in touch with nature. Your reply gives me hope, and I hope my personal contribution do as well. Btw: Hoping so much that Australia gets rid of Scott Morrison (and that USA elects Bernie Sanders). Earth needs more compassionate leaders. Blessings to you and your wonderful nature 'down under'! :)

@Al Pal Wow, good to know about your schools teaching kids wildlife. Had to look up "marsupials" to be sure, but yeah the Danish equivalent "pungdyr" means "wallet animal". I get your frustration, because Australia is something completely unique to the rest of the world. I drove by bus from Adelaide to Alice Springs - that's like from my home in Denmark to Venice, Italy! Australia is huge (thus, there will probably always be "a couple" of koala families left)! Just sad if population numbers are not restored so that koalas would be to find all around in future also. I'm not an expert on eucalyptus, but I guess it's relative scarcity is the root problem regarding koalas(?). Along with road construction and road killings. Wasn't aware it's two whole years until Oz election. That's unfortunate, but at least (hopefully) the world's leading economy stands to change bigtime in November this year :) Denmark, on the other hand, is less than 6M people so you might hear very little (besides our crown princess Mary from Tasmania) but our Parliament recently voted for one of the more ambitious CO2 reduction plans ("The Climate Law": 70% less CO2 in 2030 compared to 1990). I wish you aussies all the best! :) Cheers. Btw: My favorite Oz animals are kangaroo and Echidna (though every species deserves its rightful place).
