They were all such great actors you loved the characters and forgot they were actually acting. We all know a Ventress and a Greengrass, Claude was a lovable rogue with a soft side to him. Ventriss didn't boast about his military days and he had a sharp memory that came in handy. I could go on for a long time about all the actors/characters and the great music but there are hundreds of thousands like me. They and the programme will be with us forever.

I watched every episode of heartbeat I was hooked on right from start to finish it was my favourite show one the telly 📺 I was born 1955 so I was a 60s kid and it was my favourite time in my life and heartbeat brought it all back to me and I got to see some of the actors when I visited Goathland I wanted to live there, I've not watched or seen anything like heartbeat on telly since but I still watch all the reruns of it every time it comes on 💗you can't beat a bit of heartbeat in your life ✌️💗😎❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I knew about Heartbeat going right back to Series 1 but I was just not interested. But then, around 2014, I started watching repeats of Series 12 onwards that I got hooked. I reckon I've watched all those episodes about five or six times!! The best drama series ever!!

I noticed since Heartbeat came to an end that more people (at least as far as episodes that are on youtube go - before they get removed) have become aware of the show more than when it was originally broadcast, why that is I don't know, but maybe because fans of the show seem to be from overseas than in the UK. ITV always gave British audiences the impression that Heartbeat was one of the most watched TV drama series of the 1990s, but personally I don't think it was that popular, certainly not hugely popular; you'd be surprised how few people watched it, and I don't know anyone who did when it was originally shown, besides myself.

Apparently the biggest "error" they made with Heartbeat, apparently, was having the constanbles wear the familiar bobby helmet. According to Nicholas Rhea who wrote the constable books based on his experiences of being a rural constable himself, is that he states that in "Heartbeat - the story behind the series", in rural communities such as Aidensfield constables wore peaked hats and not helmets but in the series they decided to use the bobby helmet as it felt more fitting. Anyone know if this is true?. I noticed in series 7 when Nick becomes a sgt that he never wears the sgts hat that Blaketon, Merton, Craddock etc wore.

I agree. The later series were awful, too many characters coming and going like they were working on a temp contract, the doctors, PCs and nurses being killed off with what would be a far fetched demise like falling off a horse and a disgruntled teenager blowing up the police house to get revenge for his dog dying. The drama storylines were boring and reused with guest actors who clearly couldn't act, the comedy went too far with Vernon and David and later Peggy (those awful minging teeth of hers lol) and their silly schemes (a Zebra escaping lol). Heartbeat slowly went downhill once Greengrass left and hit rock bottom around series 15.

Love this show. As an English speaking American, it is a bit hard to understand. But I love this show!
