Fun facts: The phone call made to the States to get supporting fire was made by an Army Ranger. Also, the two Ranger Battalions were forced to make their parachute drop in daylight instead of night because the Marines asked that H-Hour be pushed back due to them not having night vision capabilities. The Marines were thrown a bone and allowed to be part of the invasion at the very last minute due to the Marine barracks in Lebanon being blown up a few days before.

Never understood why they dumped them off in the water instead of on the beach - other than for Hollywood's desire for dramatic effect. Same with the smoke coming out of the amphibious vehicles. Never the less, one of my favorite movies.

Clint Eastwood fulfilled one of my impossible dreams. This past summer, I had my own personal retrospective of Richard Widmark's movies, and one of my favorites is Take the High Ground! (1953). I always wished that this movie would have a sequel. And there is one! Heartbreak Ridge (1986) could very well be that sequel. I love both movies with all my heart. Mr. Eastwood is absolutely amazing in his film.

This movie has to be near the top for war movie tropes and 80’s corniness, but is still fun. It captures the USMC’s duality of bureaucracy (winking at Pvt. Joker). In garrison the levels of stupid can be unimaginable, but occasionally tactful logic can be strongly applied if it’s obviously going to lead to mission accomplishment. One thing Marine leaders hate is having their immaculately designed bureaucracy interrupted by hasty bureaucracy. USMC 0341

@davejohnson5479 - What the character of "Swede" did in a negative fashion was taking down the Cuban flag as a matter of disrespect to the country that the U.S. had imposed the criminal economic embargo since 1960! It's no wonder that I HATED the film of "Heartbreak Ridge" at all!

Served as a Marine RTO 1974-78. Movie was somewhat good. First Recon Marines are elite and not the slobs in this movie. Also Recon is it's own unit. They are not part of an Infantry unit. Also, Camp LeJune is green in Summer, unlike Camp Pendleton where this was filmed. Also if you are deploying recon Marines to swim in during daylight, better to just helo in.

Although I haven't watched this video in some time, I remember when this happened, yes there Americans, but they also had other people from different countries, others HAITIANS, and I remember that the QUEEN OF ENGLAND also sent some military troops to the island, and currently there's a lot of huge problems with HAITIAN rebels,as they have fired rounds at incoming civilian aircrafts, twice,one being UNITED AIRLINES, so the UNITED STATES imposed a NO LANDING ZONE, and many HAITIAN/AMERICANS were trying to get to the islands before THANKSGIVING ,but the United States government won't allow it, going out or in is impossible, maybe call,that's about it.

Imagine that a movie made 40 years ago isn't as impressive as movies today... lol this is still better than that horrible Hacksaw ridge or ANY of the pearl Harbor movies made
@DavidDragonetti5 сағат бұрын
@@AlexRominger Better than Hacksaw Ridge!!!!.. Wow you are obviously a pretty poor judge of film. In this clip of the alone you have one marine saying "I cant do that man" (which is just absurd he is after all a marine) then later you have a dead body being rolled over where its pretty obvious the "dead body" ie the Extra is rolling himself. How many awards did Hacksaw ridge win...Compared to this film which won nothing.

Agree. Walked outta the theatre lamenting just how God AWFUL the acting was. Eastwood’s strength has always been the ability to surround himself with great actors in his movies. But this one (and Sudden Impact) had ZERO of those.

In this part of the video, Haiti is like Vietnam, except Vietnam was in a very dense jungle, with American forces fighting the VC,CHINESE REGULARS,AND RUSSIAN REGULARS,and fighting mosquitoes,snakes,scorpions, and malaria and name it,it was there all wrapped up into one small country, it was a war that America lost, with a very heavy casualty losses, as there are a lot of MILITARY CEMETERIES all over the place, as my father, brother and uncle are buried. There's A PRICE FOR FREEDOM, and if it means that you have to give your life for DEMOCRACY, then so be it, it's the WILL OF THE PEOPLE.
@50Nobody504 сағат бұрын
I have plenty of respect for veterans but over the course of my lifetime, this ludicrous idea has been proven false time and time again. Not a single US military engagement since WW2 was done because the freedom of America's citizens was in danger. That's just a nice sounding excuse for imperialism.
@robertpolanco1973Сағат бұрын
Personally, I HATED the 1986 film of "Heartbreak Ridge" because of both the glorification and pure propaganda of the scenes involving the outright U.S. invasion of Grenada which some people had regarded as purely criminal in overthrowing the progressive Grenadian government in the film's plot setting of 1983 where the rescue of U.S. medical students there was used as an excuse for the invasion along with the awful defeat of Grenadian and Cuban soldiers as well. It's no wonder that the U.S. had a total disregard for the UN resolution against the criminal invasion of that time by most of the world. How tragic and pathetic that moment in history was!
