Really insightful. We have many fantastic sights here in Ireland that many of us have not explored. Your walks, adventures and videos (over the years) are a real inspiration to get out there and explore. Thank you Derek.

My grandmother came from Cobh before moving to England, but I never knew anything about the town, or of its history. I'll definitely have to arrange a visit after seeing this video. Good luck with the rest of your walk, loving the series so far.

My pleasure and thank you for the kind words. I have always felt a strong pull toward such places where the old traditions were carried in songs and stories. In this case, they were carried on ships to America 🇺🇸

Before Annie Moore got to Ellis Island immigrants had to report to Castle Garden at the bottom of Battery Park, including during the days of An Gorta Mór, and before. There were plenty of treacherous ‘gombeen men’ around early on willing to take advantage of the newcomers. By the 1870s-80s the Americans had improved the situation by excluding everyone but immigrants from the processing center. There were clerks there to help the illiterate write home, or direct people as to how to best reach their chosen destination. There was even an adjacent Labor Exchange to help in finding jobs.

Hi Derek, I’m watching your videos in chronological order, so I’m actually not up to this video yet. I just wondered sometimes watching your videos what month your travelling in. Do you have a favourite time of year you recommend to travel in Ireland?

I don’t know what you mean to be honest. The videos are posted almost real time. Ie I shoot and edit episodes every day and todays video (titanic) was shot in cobh yesterday morning 👍

God bless u and all my Irish cousins!!! The Irish have been pushed off their lands since the beginning of time… We are in every corner of this world and mostly not by choice but by tyrannical invaders… A strong, fearless and beloved people who laugh through tears, inspire and entertain, have farmed and built, fought and died for the cause of freedom everywhere.. Btw titanic did not hit a glacier it was a smal bomb that put a hole in the hull and sunk…to kill a certain banker on board who wasn’t going to go along with the plan to create the federal reserve bank that has robbed Americans of all their gold and assets… history is made up by a cabal of aristocratic bankers, just the fact that cathedral was built using 300 thousand dollars when millions of Irish died for lack of care, many still starving and suffering in workhouses, or forced to leave their beloved families and homeland never to be seen or heard of again… And it’s still happening today
