You guys were the first to show me one of these, bought a couple on line from Italy when I saw you guys buy yours. Only one of mine lived and has done well. I guess the other didn't like the trip through seven countries. Just gave mine it's first drink also because it was the same, shriveled a bit. Things are starting to wake up in the greenhouse , so I'm giving a little water to some.a few of my Euphorbia are blooming and also my Gasteria lilipuntia is covered in flower spikes! These are really interesting and love the differences (right word?) between the two cacti regarding their growth! I am slowly getting interested in cacti thanks to your videos! LOL Since I had good luck sprouting cacti seeds my niece gave me a few months ago, I bought a pack of assorted cacti seeds from the big box store last weekend. I sowed them a few days ago, and it will be interesting to see what pops up! Also gained the confidence to do it thanks to your videos!! LOL (FYI: the seeds should contain Saguaro, Hedgehog, Fishhook Barrel, Dollar Prickly Pear, Desert Prickly Pear, Christmas Cholla, Cane Cholla, Santa Rita Prickly Pear, or Cardo'n.) Already have seedlings of the Hedgehog and Fishhook Barrel; so I'm hoping to get at least one Saguro! Thank you, Lynn!

Hey! Thanks for your vid! I bought a spiralis a few weeks ago and it's my most expensive plant at the moment! 🤩I'll keep it inside and in front of my eyes the whole time this winter, I'm keeping 16°C max during the winter, so it'll be just fine. I'll be watching your other videos about propagating through seeds, I hope I can get it to flower although I'm afraid my balcony is too hot during the summer and I don't know whether it will flower inside (I guess it won't?!). BTW I still have 30°C during the day, should I or should I not water my other cactuses outside?? Huge dilemma! 🙃Temperatures will drop and they will suffer if I water them, but if I don't they will suffer as well!! I'm from Italy, near Trieste. Thank you again! 🤩😘
@desertplantsofavalon
@desertplantsofavalon Жыл бұрын
Thats wonderful you bought a Spiralis, they are amazing cacti and so unique with their spiral appearance, the good news your Spralis can still flower inside if it is close to a sunny window, it can be a bit of a dilemma when it comes to watering cacti at this time of year when the weather is still nice and warm, the best thing to do is to still keep them dry if possible, because the shorter day length will still make them prepare for the winter dormancy, but if you notice that nay of them are starting to look shrivelled you can go ahead and give them just a light watering now to help to prevent them from shrivelling, but if they all still look ok I would leave them unwatered until early next Spring, thanks so much for watching and for your wonderful comment, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Italy for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

I live in San Diego California in the US. I planted my straight spiral cactus on a pot outdoors in 2021 and it was about 12 inches then, now its 38 inches, seemed to teally take off due to unual amount of rain we had this winter. Someone told me that the spirals can start growing the opposite direction if you turn the plant towards or away from the sun. Do you know if that's true? I don't want that to happen to my plant because it has almost perfectly spaced spirals from the soil to the top, and I dont want to ruin it.... But it's getting so tall I'm thinking about planting it into the ground.
@desertplantsofavalon
@desertplantsofavalon Жыл бұрын
WOW thats awesome your Spiral cactus has grown so much, they can start to grow a different direction if they are moved, my smaller one does grow towards the sun and I have to keep moving it around but my bigger one stays straight, but they are in pots, if you planted it in the ground it would be wonderful and will grow into an incredible large specimen but it may grow towards the direction of the sun but they branch out as they mature and look amazing, yours will thrive in San Diego, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful weekend XXXX

@desertplantsofavalon

Hi Jessica :-D I notice that my Spiral cacti have a bit of a habit of growing to one side and leaning too, they do love to be well watered during the Summer and I let mine dry out in between watering's but then give a good watering again, I have to move mine around regularly too to prevent it from growing towards the direction of the sun, but these cacti do have a tendency to lean and grow to one side and its nothing to worry about, I have three of these and my bigger one has straightened itself out now, but my two smaller ones that in this video still lean over a bit even though they are well watered, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a super Sunday XXXX
