I think it was the right choice at the time. It was immediately useful while mass polymorph is only useful, possibly in the future, if he's already losing.

@@zarblitz Right but he is against a buff deck without an immediate counter to big boards with divine shield. I think it had more to do with inexperience in the matchup.

I'm convinced that you should cut Arcane Brilliance I never saw a single time when that the card felt good Like 90% of the time it either drops 2 late and it doesn't generate value or gives cards that makes hand space really awkward

Agreed. Tower and the pirate that gives you armor incentives spells in your deck, not your hand. Courier wants spells in hand, but there's so many big spells you're gonna draw one anyway even without the brilliance, 9 out of 10 times.

I'm wondering if running Deck of Lunacy could help out big spell mage. It seems like a lot of the spells you could get from the other classes are more useful than the mage ones that are actually in the deck.

Honestly, you could probably run deck of lunacy + dawngrasp in a non bigspell deck and then just have him cast 7 spells from various schools.

I can see C’thun working well in a deck like this. Pair it with the tower for a quick completion, then fish C’thun out with the 5 mana 3/3.

What about the mailbox dancing guy to get some occasionnal ramp? I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it, since the deck already struggles to find good early game minions

I don’t think anyone can convince me that deep freeze is good. Water elemental is not played as a 4 drop anymore. Casting two of them for 8 and freezing one enemy isn’t that valuable IMO.

Since this deck can cheat it out and it gets recast by the hero, it does more than it would otherwise. So in a meta where weapons are powerful it's incredible and even without that meta, it's still useful to slow the game down. I wouldn't say it's stellar, but it's the only big frost spell I can think of for Magister Dawngrasp and it's good enough for that.

Combining bad cards together often results in a fairly decent card, a lot has changed since Sludge Belcher but its lessons are still relevant. In this case we're talking about water elementals, which you're right that it doesn't see play but it isn't because it's a bad card. Mage just doesn't have any archetypes that care about playing an efficient 4-drop, if it were in another class it might be able to find a home even in the current state of power creep. As for deep freeze specifically, it's just nice to be able to develop a decent amount of stats while also freezing the biggest threat immediately and thus off-setting some of the tempo issues with playing such an expensive card. The elementals can be annoying to remove with just spells, meaning you'll often get at least 3-4 freezes in total out of the deal which can actually add up to give you a surprising amount of breathing room to get your other big spells out. After mask I'd consider it the second best option this archetype has. Rune is just another chaotic yogg, the fireworks are finicky to set up, the tower is obviously great but even slower and doesn't do anything on its own. Nothing else really develops a tempo advantage, which is what you want to be doing at the phase of the game where you're just chaining expensive cards one after another. There are only so many times you can clear the board before you need to actually find a way to kill the opponent and those unassuming old water elementals do a surprisingly good job of that once you get enough of them out. It's especially great off of parrot, since you get to develop an additional 6/6 while slowing down your opponent.

I think the reasons to play it are just so you can cheat it out with clumsy curiour and tower, also the new legendary card can discount it to 5 mana which is high value and you have the hero card which can also recast it. Overall it's a good card to play in this deck imo.
