You can imagine the yugioh extra deck as battlegrounds quests. You can pre-select which 15 quests you want at the start of the game and they give you a reward if you complete them. These quests can be very specific like "have three creatures of these exact names" or be very broad like "have 2 creatures with the same tribe"

5:18 Stevie is wrong about Daruma Cannon. The card IS good, it's just a niche card, currently only seeing play in OCG Labrynth decks. The same can be said for Torrential Tribute, and Daruma Cannon is arguably better because it sends the monsters instead of destroying them, and it can be activated whenever you want as opposed to a specific trigger window. It also has weird language that forces your opponent to send the monsters so it bypasses trap immunity. Stevie paints cards in a specific framework (like with Dogwood), so it was frustrating to see he wasn't consistent with this card.

Wait shit I completely missed the fact that the wording is asserted upon both players like that I was like "What about like, Any of the "ruin everyone's day" mirror force retrains?" Its a solid out to shit like someone dropping Access or 6k Arrival on your head, since they can't be flipped The conditions in most circumstances can honestly be boiled down to "flip all monsters, send all Links" I absolutely see how Labrynth is having fun with this, blessed be the "whatever the fuck you want" Trap Searcher
@DarkCT

@@syrelian exactly, this cards great for most flip/set focused or trap centric decks. my main trap deck is Paleozoics, and over there the card is basically mass book of moon+ links/unaffecteds all dead and a paleo activation on the top. it's a niche card for sure, but torrential is hardly what it once was either considering how many monsters can be destruction immune or even have self-revival clauses based on destruction. being able to activate it more freely helps too. It has it's issues- setting your own monsters even in trap focused decks does take away immunity to some effects at times. Traptrix in particular is better off with Torrential I think just because all their ED has some kind of trap immunity, thus falls into the unaffected class. but especially as a removal tool in a link/unaffected focused territory, the cards a deadly piece. even in it's worst case use in these decks, the mass BoM can just save you an additional turn if it goes off, plus any flip effects resets

the ghoti synchro and guardian chimera are equally good. The only problem is that guardian chimera has more support that helps summon it while ghoti syncho has only crap support. It's a bit hard to him to guess which is good or not solely based on the card by itself while not being aware of what kind of supports are out there. Ghoti of the Deep Beyond is a really good card. The archetyp around it isn't all that good, but the card itself is insane and if we ever get a good way of summoning it then this card will see a lot of play. So I think that wasn't really a fair question.

Haven't watched the entire video yet, but I have something to say about Destructive Daruma Karma Cannon, Stevie, like most YGO players, has min maxer brain and does not understand the fact that cards can just be good and not be amazing, for the majority of the ygo community the card is either broken or miserable with no in-between, also most ygo players will miss interpret a card's quality with the amount of tops and the amount of META play the card has, which there's usually a correlation, but not always, Girsu didn't see any META play, but no sane person would say that card is trash, same thing here, DDCK isn't the best thing ever, it isn't meta relevant, but it is a good card, just good, a typical 6/10 good.
@syrelian
@syrelian Жыл бұрын
I think the issue wasn't really that, so much as missing the nuances of the card, because my initial read was pretty similar Why wouldn't I use a cleaner removal method? Or if I really wanted to force face-downs instead of blowing them out, there's other shit, including the god forsaken Mirror Force retrains But there's nuances I'm noticing from comments, like the wording on its removal, this card may as well say "Your opponent Sends all Link Monsters" and be done with it, out that goddamn 6k The Arrival Cyberse

@@syrelian Even if those nuances were missing this still wouldn't be a contender for "one of the worst trap cards". Would you really put this card in the same ballpark as cards like "Two-Pronged Attack", "White Hole", "Oops!", "Mutually Affured Destruction", "Anti-Raigeki", and "Ready for Intercepting"? Because I sure wouldn't. And those are just cards off the top of my head. There are nearly 2000 traps in the game, and I've probably only read like 1 or 2 hundred so far. OP is 100% right here, it feels like Stevie has a tendency to treat any card below a 6/10 as like a 1 or a 0, it feels like he should be leaning more on mediocrity when talking about a card like this.
@InferDra

It is definitely a 6/10 at the moment but it has the potential to climb to a 9 or even 10/10 in the right circumstances. If the game shifts to either a Link-heavy meta or a meta where more and more unaffected monsters see play it can be devstating because it works around any kind of protection and even turns them into a weakness.

Honestly, Destructive Daruma Karma Cannon doesn't seem like a bad side deck card. If your opponent has monsters that are unaffected by card effects, they would stay face-up on the field, which would mean that your opponent would have to send all of their monsters to the graveyard. This is considered "non-destructive removal," which is a pretty valuable effect in yugioh

a monster that is unaffected by card effects would not get removed because of a .... you know... card effect. this is like "monster thats unaffected by other card effects" and you use a "negate a monster's effect"-card on said monster. it simply does not work. monsters that are unaffected by card effects cant be getting rid of by anything thats text on a card. you can attack and destroy it or use a game mechanic (like a tribute summon) to remove it. edit: feel free to correct me if i'm wrong

Destructive Daruma Karma Canon actually has competive applications. It's a niche, but to call it one of the worst cards ever printed is incorrect. It has extremely potent use cases if you understand how it works: 1. Torrential Tribute (his supposedly better card) sends cards to the GY where they can trigger there effects. This card avoids that. 2. The card sends face up monsters by game mechanics (not by card effect, as it reads "the player" must send). This is important, because it can be used to remove monsters that are unaffected by card effects. 3. There are decks like Kashtira (the best deck in Yugioh right now), that cannot play with face down cards on their field. They require an empty field as a requirement to summon themselves from the hand. If you use this card to set their field facedown, they may have to just end their turn. 4. You can activate this card at virtually any time, unlike alternatives like Torrential which can only be activated when your opponent summons a monster. For example, a trap deck can use this card to break a board going second. This is especially potent against link based strategies. None of these things make it a universal staple. But in the correct context, it can be more effective than it's alternatives.

one nuance about ultimate slayer that didn't get touched on: the monster on its art is apollousa, a link monster with a negate, and that largely hints on the standard use case of the card: while apollousa herself ain't the prime target ( her negate only hits _monster_ effects, so the art is moreso meant to depict the art as her technique ), it _is_ meant to be a way to fairly reliably get rid of links with effects that would otherwise just negate or trade with your removal, because links are generic enough that it's a rare scenario to not have both players running 'em. and while extra deck space is tight enough that you don't really have room for kinda throwaway links, you'll still usually have a space or two for a knightmare that's only in there as a generic toolbox card which won't mess with your combo if you pitch it. and, hey, if you happen to be playing a deck that focuses on the same extra deck mechanics as your opponent, or a deck that just flat-out makes use of a variety of 'em, then it _does_ become as flexible as it may seem unfortunately, it's not a quick-play, and while links _are_ very generic, most of them are used as combo pieces and extenders outside of decks. so one of the main purposes of a dedicated link killer, disrupting a piece of the opponent's combo that they just sank a bunch of resources into, is totally lost. that just leaves it as a dedicated going second card to snipe troublesome big bosses so they can't disrupt your plays, and formats _do_ regularly see big generic link monsters as part of a turn 1 endboard ... but as secondary bosses to extend the board pressure of the deck's primary bosses. and dedicated link decks are good at shitting out multiple boss links. and you have to hard draw it. and it targets. and your opponent can still activate backrow in response, at which point they are no longer activating effects in response to ultimate slayer and they can use monster effects again hell, if _you_ chain an effect to _your own_ ultimate slayer, they are no longer activating effects in response to ultimate slayer and they can use monster effects like, it's still a p. nutty card in a vacuum - the fact that it _spins_ the monster back into the deck means that it completely bypasses most protection effects ( though, unfortunately, targeting protection is one of the more common forms ) and prevents any real target from floating - and it'd absolutely be a staple in a lot of the game's formats. it's just that all its traits that _could_ make it good are held back by those traits not quite reaching far enough. it could snipe important combo pieces, but you're stuck only using it on your turn. it could slip through preventative measures to remove a key part of your opponent's endboard, but you're only dealing with one troublemaker and there's no guarantee said endboard will even have a key monster that your extra deck can hit. and it targets. it's just sorta one of those cards that has its appeal and purpose and sees experimentation and play, but ends up being one of the first things to get cut when refining a deck

@@animedegenerate1437 oh, right, completely forgot that a lot of the good extra deck floaters don't have any trouble proccing off of costs admittedly it's another good trait of the card that's held back by the finer details, because a lot of those floaters aren't links and dumping them is a lot more specific, but it's still a very real facet of the card's utility that helps keep it out of the abyss of "this doesn't quite look like pack filler, _but_ ..."

That trap card that forces you to make as many creatures face-down in defense as possible, I figured he was going to say it was crap because there's strategies that would actually *want* their cards face down so they can get flip effects again or something.

I think we should consider whether a card would be good in the main deck or side deck. Plenty of cards that are trash in the main deck but super good in the side deck. Also dependent on knowing who gets to go first in a best-of-3 match.

Destructive Drama Karma Cannon is okay in 1 deck that is popular, Labrynth. It is searchable in the deck, forcing boss monsters to flip face down that have destruction protection or immune to targeting effects is a good way to get around certain annoying cards. And cards like raidraptor ultimate falcons get destroyed by it since it forces the player to remove it. Since Labrynth does struggle against cards with those effects because majority of removal traps target or says destroy. Outside of that it is a meh card. It is more or less a tech option.

Honestly after watching a lot of these, Stevie is really bad at this. He really doesn't understand why a card is good/bad or played/not played a lot of times. He also tends to put a lot of cards that barely makes the cut as really bad... which is just so not true.

The amount of cap this man is spewing 💀 why is he lying so bad and saying cards are bad when they're not? Pot of Prosperity and Pot of Extravagance banish SIX from your extra deck to draw 1 or 2 cards, but the card that sends which synergizes with branded & dogmatika is bad because "you can't afford to send from extra deck" or "you have to build an extra deck"? sort of, pretty much every combo involves a couple monsters entering and leaving the field in tandem resulting in dogwood making you gain LP equal to the attack value of all of them each and every time they hit the field resulting in a non-neglectable amount of LP gain that can take multiple turns to to deplete back to the prior amount at worst meaning its not so much a stall card as IT IS the stall and again as mentioned by stevie its used to cheat the time rules it helps that the the atk value of bigger and better monsters starts getting exponentially lower the higher the lvls like many lvl 3-4 monsters has anywhere from 1.2k-2k so you would expect something like lvl 6-8 to have at least double that as the standard values at 3.2-4k but most hover at 2.5-3k instead so even if the opponent were to do a massive combo to get 3 monsters with at least 3k atk onto the field the user of dogwood would probably have already gained LP anywhere from 2-5 times the amount of dmg the opponent can eventually deal to them

Actually funnily enuf, even tho currently dogwood is only really being used to win in time, she has some matchups where she is useless or even save u 1 or more turns. I remember seeing a chart that some1 made listing out all the top meta and rogue combo decks and how much LP she gets u for the standard turn vs how much dmg that same deck can do in 1 turn. This gave a perspective on which decks cud otk thru dogwood and which cudnt. And also dogwood can stop most burn FTK decks.

Stevie is absolutely the worst person to be in these “player from another card game judge yugioh cards”. He doesn’t touch on nuance of why a card could be good. Some cards have “middle ground”. He completely ignore that middle ground. It’s not as easy as “good/bad.

Wording in yugioh is very important. For example Guardian Chimera allows you to destroy 3 cards. Since it only says cards you can target anything on the field with it. Other examples are hard once per turns and soft once per turns. If the card says that You can only use [Insert Card Name] effect once per turn than only one copy of that card can activate. If it doesn’t specify the cards name then 3 copies of the card can be activated on the same turn.
@YukiFubuki.
@YukiFubuki. Жыл бұрын
thats not hard chimera works, it only allows up to 2 destruction since it must be equal to the amount of monster used as fusion materials from the field and you have to use at least 1 from field and 1 from hand to summon it so the only 2 combinations possible is draw-2 + destroy-1 and draw-1 + destroy-2 you also must destroy opponent's cards equal to the amount of monsters used as materials from the field too so if you used 2 materials from field you cannot choose to only destroy 1 card the opponent controls else you cannot use this effect at all, which means if the opponent were to chain a card/effect resulting in less cards they control then the amount you need to destroy using chimera's effect the effect will fail to resolve instead it also doesnt target

I think it would be interesting to have a version of this with archetype cards, but with a specific caviat: If a card is amazing, but stuck in a bad archetype, it'll still be rated as good. So for example Flower Gathering would rank as a very strong card. Yes it locks you into Flower Cardians (like most of their cards), which immediately guts the cards competitive viability, but that's not the fault of Flower Gathering. It's because the Flower Cardian boss-monsters aren't oppressive enough and the entire rest of the deck crumbles to disruption or just plain bad luck. However on the flipside, a monster that is simply too hard to summon would still rank as not very good. Because that is something that actively is part of the card itself. But it would be necessary to give some smalm hints as to what the archetype does. So with the example of Flower Gathering, said hint would be the fact that the deck is built around swapping monsters out for each other.

Example of the second would the the ice barrier dragon, since they were not good at summoning it
@GumshoeClassic
@GumshoeClassic Жыл бұрын
@@charnor2727 They're generic though, which imo should exclude them from this type of evaluation. As far as I am concerned, the "if it's too hard to make it's bad" clause should only apply if that is true for all or most decks and strategies that *can* make that card. Guess I shoulda clarified that. So Trishula would be exempt, since while Ice Barriers have to sacrifice an arm and a leg to build it, it isn't locked to Ice Barriers and Trish was meta-relevant for a long time. My personal pick for an example would be Armed Dragon Catapult Cannon. It's a potentially game-wrecking effect, but it requires you to play a duct-taped-together abomination of three archetypes that are all weak to boot, and tops it off with a very strict summoning condition.

Okay so the intro of this video paints the current Yugioh meta a bit negatively, and some of it is probably deserved. Yes, Tear is a Tier 0 deck with 50-70% representation in top cuts. However, it's important to point out that it's not really an unfair deck. Powerful, yes. Near infinite resources, yes. But if you compare it to previous top meta decks, it doesn't play unfair et unfun floodgates, it doesn't make a board of 50 negates on turn one. It has clear weaknesses, and asks a lot of skill to play well. So yes, a tier 0 format isn't ideal, but it's at least a step in the right direction for the design of powerful archetypes in Yugioh, because at least the games are fun to play.

It's always extremely interesting to watch someone from other card games rate Yugioh cards specifically. Due to the lack of a resource system in Yugioh, certain effects that wouldn't be very strong in other card games are way stronger while others can be way worse. What good would a card be if it puts every card back into their hand (Like River's Rebuke in Magic), but they just keep going because there's no costs? With games being on average 2-3 turn best of 3s that take upwards of 20 minutes per game right now there's so much involved in a single turn that you could look at some cards and think "Wow, that's so crazy" only for them to be nearly unplayable because they're to slow.
