Hi my friend, glad to see you again! As a content creator that has been doing Marvel Snap stuff for over 1 year, the game is indeed not new player friendly It's kind of like trying to play Wild in HS now, where you can use any card, but the collection progress is so so so much tougher compared with Standard I complete all daily quests, and I still have to pick 1 or 2 new cards out of 4 to unlock per month You gotta make careful choices/investments when buying cards, so you don't waste precious Collector's Tokens on a trash card BUT sometimes, the great cards you buy will get nerfed really quickly, so that is a bummer to the card owners I am ok with getting Season Pass to support the game, but I wish they could concentrate on making profit with Card Variants instead on making cards very difficult to obtain so people will spend a lot Even then, it still costs a fortune to get all the cards upon release... Having said that, great innovative mechanics, every match is fun and different, variants look awesome. So my only complaint now is the economy, namely way too steep card collection progress, non-refundable cards, and lack of crafting system.

I was hoping it was mostly monetized through Variant cards. And there's no way for new players to catch up to veterans. I guess their ads aren't technically misleading, they just hide the flaws behind careful wording. Well, it looks like another year I won't be playing it.

I completely disagree. I've been playing hearth for years and bought plenty expansions, and I've been playing snap FTP since it came out and I've had the same experience collection wise with both. Aka spend hundreds of dollars on a dying game or just do the daily quests for free in a new flourishing game
@francismcilvaine9083
@francismcilvaine9083 4 ай бұрын
The review has some misleading information in it. You have 6 slots for daily quests. You generate 2 quests every 8 hours... so if you empty your quests you could log in 24 hours later and they will be filled again. So you don't need to log in every 8 hours. The game does have extra randomness in card acquisition as opposed to hearthstone since if they buff a card and you now want to add it to your collection you have to wait until it becomes available to you (unlike hearthstone where you can just craft it anytime). I have been playing both games casually and enjoy both, but if I had to choose one I would be playing Marvel Snap.

I have all the cards, but I started on post Beta launch, and buy the Pass every month. The game is def meant as a Subscription service, if you want to stay up to date with the meta. They USUALLY make the Pass card OP, some cards like Phoenix Force or Shaw notwithstanding, but as far as "refund when nerfed" option, i think they give you plenty of time to abuse the cards before they inevitably get nerfed. On the flip side, I'm always on the "BUY" side of any new card, even if it sucks on launch. I presume their data will tell them what is trash, and it will get buffed to, at worst, playable/very good in certain decks. since i intend to get the pass every month, i cant really speak to how hard it is to get cards-between Keys and Tokens (which are easier to acquire by having the Pass). I will be able to keep up with the cards schedule, unless they ramp it up somehow, which would be ill-advised imo. One piece of advice for a new player would be to get to Infinite first before you start getting into higher Tier cards, which is almost EASIER to do than ppl w/ partial collections. They might have changed it, but one of the factors of match making was Collection Level, and i felt like you got paired up with too many "Complete" decks when you were dipping your toes in higher Tier cards. i think it took 3-4 seasons before my first Infi, never missed since, but i know streamers do "new acct to Infi" Speed runs all the time. As far as the Competitive side-I think SD has noted it isn't meant to be an Esports, per se'. It's more for the Casual fan, and I think, coming from more competitive minded CCGS/Esports, it's geared towards that Illusion of Balance. They want New players to feel like they're doing powerful, Super Hero-y type things, and of course those cards usually get abused by the Sweaty Grinders (me being one of them!), and I think that's for the best, honestly. Part of the Beauty of the Game is that if things are going poorly, it's over quick, Boom, off to the next one and you're Luck might change. The game is more about figuring out the meta, often daily, and rolling with it. Good Luck!

While I'll agree that for a F2P player Marvel Snap is less friendly then HS, for a small spender that just gets the battle pass every month, or even every two month it's so much better. By playing regularly, and using the battlepass you can easily get enough in game currency to get 3/4 new cards a month plus the battle pass card. It's also worth mentioning that with much more frequent updates and card releases the meta rarely becomes stale and you can usually find a deck to your taste every month or so. Not to say things are perfect and sometimes I skip out on battle passes because the card isn't interesting enough... but unlike in Hearthstone I never felt like I was wasting my time trying to climb ladder or even just play the game in general. For me, I treat it almost like an MMO subscription and it gets me enough to do just about everything.

Everyone always forgets to mention how different card acquisition is because you only need 12 cards. To make a deck, you likely already have 9+ cards for it and just need 3 more. Yes you can’t have every deck but the most important tech cards are series 1-3.

You're right, but it took me almost 2 months to find Wong, although the card is only from the third series. I understand that I have been very unlucky for a long time, since I collected quite a lot of cards from this series, but this is not a normal situation. After I found the card, my interest was completely killed, I felt incredible frustration.

The only "problem" I see to be next game to analyze, the economy is almost non-existent in LoR. You just buy cosmetics and everything else is free.....so, not much to analyze for the mathematician. Maybe just how much time you will need in order to do quests and get the entire collection. And the most efficient way of achieving that.

I'll never go back to snap, I played it pretty hardcore the day it came out and there was this special event thing happening for a mile morales alternate card. Somehow I got mega unlucky and couldn't complete one of the missions in time (7 day combo or something) and it screwed me on the 6th day and then the event ended and I lost the card. That was it for me, never going back.

Your comparisons about card acquisition are really wrong. The Wong argument is just bad, because it's more a meme deck. Series 2 Dino deck is much more stronger than on Reveal deck with Wong. So not all rare, epic and legendary cards are stronger than the basic ones. You need all cards to experience game to the fullest, but you don't need that to win.

I agree, it's a good deck. But how many effective Series 2 decks can I use? Yes, a player can win with budget decks, but the lack of opportunities to get a specific card for competitive play makes the rating system unfair.
@SnuggleKingHS

@@HearthstoneMathematics the idea is: you don't need all cards for winning. Also, you are not put in "general population" from the start. Your rank is correlated to your collection level. So from the start you can reach Infinite, while not meeting any of meta decks. While doing that, you can target strong meta cards in the shop rotation cycles and get those. I'm not saying the system is ideal, but that Wong argument is awful. Getting Wong doesn't push you to play him. Specially, if you want to win. Also, you don't need to go into the game 3 times a day. You can enter the game once a day - complete 6 quests and come back next day.

In terms of conquest - it takes into account your collection level. In early 1500 levels it works REALLY in your favor. You meet people with same pool 2 and maybe 2-3 series 3 cards and you have very even matches. The better player will win those games. You can also put a lot of tech cards and be prepared for anything. When your collection level is higher than that, you start to meet stronger decks. But than you have some strong options by yourself and there are cards which auto-build you a strong deck: Loki and High Evolutionary. If you saved your keys for any of them, you have a deck which can compete against meta decks even if you are really low at your collection level track. Conquest is my main mode. It is very good for new players (1-2 months) because you learn to navigate your decks, learn to plan to counter and you have even matches in terms of cards avaiable. In infinite (legend rank) there is no collection-level restriction - you face other legend players with meta decks. But in conquest you can chill and face players similar to you. It's very good place to play game in your early marvel snap journey.

I'd rather play aggro decks from hearthstone when I'm on my phone tbh same quick sub 5 mins games. Say whatever you want about hearthstone, but you can make at least a single top tier meta deck within a month or even less, if there's something super cheap keeping the greedy decks in check like treant druid atm.

Snap launched without a long-term survival plan. The way one card is added without a set into series 5 every week means that all the new cards are treated equal while their power level is clearly not, so every player only buys the most powerful spotlight cache and three others are ignored. And if they do more series drops, their trajectory is that series 1 and 2 will have 40 cards, series 4 and 5 will have 100 cards and series 3 alone will have 1000 cards, where 90% is filler trash and the rest are key components to different meta decks. Their plan is to just pump out a new shiny thing every week and dump everything a week later into the giant trash pile as the whales bought it, lost interest and need new food, everyone else are raccoons digging the trash pile for lootboxes and a free pass once a month.

In general, you are probably right, at the moment the game does not seem adapted for a long life cycle, but the economy of the game allows adaptation extremely quickly and without risks, unlike Hearthstone. This is a very important feature of the game.

i honestly do not agree with this purely because it was Ben Brode and half of the ex hearthstone devs that helped create marvel snap and the second diner company . They wouldnt do that on a whim with the history of what they created with Hearthstone , in fact im sure they said at launch that this was a long term plan going forward and i think it will be , theres lots they can do with it and many more directions to take it and add events to ,, not a short term project by any means .

@@icelord6668 At the moment, the game's economy does not really contain tools for long-term support, but this does not mean that the game will not develop. Marvel Snap has a good foundation that will allow the second diner company to adapt the game at any time.

First two months I played devil dino up to infinite and beyond. It can be done. I had huge tempo and I was stealing cards from the opponent. I run a lot of tech cards (which are pool 1 and 2) which allowed me to free win in matchu-ups like destroy (cosmo, armor). I hit top10.000 twice in those first two months (i don't remember exactly which positions). Two-three months later I have 50% of pool 5 cards (including the most important ones), can build very strong decks (high evo, tribunal combo, junk decks, lockdown) and i have still 40% of pool 3 cards yet to open. With good key managment i was able to get a lot of top cards. With that said you just HAVE to buy 10 dolars season pass to not get frustraited in this game. You must understand that before getting into this game that you can do f2p but most often than not you wil complain that this meta relevant card is not in your reach and everyone playing against you have it. I still don't like this "making-life-harder-than-it-could-be" feature of marvel snap. Like I can't pick a card from spotlight, I can't pick a free series 3 card right away, I have to log every 8 hours to check if it's there. These are the things which are pain in the a... quality issues. After couple months you will actually have strong options in your collection. Crafting system will not support the economy of the game because it would be too easy to obtain these card and that's how they got a loot of money. I hate the frequence balancing for the sake of shake things up but in reality it has obvious monetary aspect - destroy your new strong toys so you should invest in new toys which are better now. And the toys which were bad so you decided to skip them now are strong because of buffs. And there is no easy access to them right now. With crafting system it will be nice, but without it creates this space where your strong decks keep getting knocked down. And you actually "worked" hard to get the resources to make this deck. Marvel Snap is my favorite game of all time in terms of gameplay. At the same time it's the only game I wouldn't recommand to a friend because of the obvious monetary aspect in every single decisions they make. And the progression is kinda slow, you must be decicated player in order to fully experiance this game. It is also so transparent to me they make strong season pass cards and nerf them later for further profit. It's bad practise. It's working just because the gameplay is so amazing. If the game wasn't so much addicting it would get the Artifact treatment.

I can't begin to describe how disappointed I was when Second Dinner announced this as their game because I knew this was what it would be under the the Marvel license; grotesquely monetized. When Ben announced that he had started his own dev studio I followed all of their videos, watched every new team member get added, couldn't wait to hear what they had all been working on. And then boom, yet another mobile Marvel product in an endless sea of oversaturation that is the MCU. Such wasted potential IMO.

MS is not mend to be like HS. You don’t need to get every card. That was never the point of the game. You get the cards you want and play with those.
