@@8kw7mx9 So you're saying his version is a fail but he's a really good self tought pianist. Is anything not coming from a legend like Animenz a fail then ? Also, keep in mind this challenge is supposed to be somewhat doable, I'm not so sure she could learn Animenz's technique in an hour
@ekasism2 жыл бұрын
@@8kw7mx9 personally, I dislike both. As I do with most of KL’s arrangements. They just get too complicated with too many added notes that take away from the feeling of the song and becomes a demonstration of skill. Edit: Even the girl in the video says that too much takes away from what the song is supposed to be.

Your 1min, 10min, 1h challenges are super interesting. I really enjoy watching them and every time I'm so amazed of how fast pieces can be learnt by sightreading if you're skilled and experienced enough. I hope to get there one day. I started playing and taking piano lessons 3 years ago and I'm still struggling with sightreading and especially rhythms often. Thanks for sharing these challenges, you're really inspiring. :) My favorite Ghibli movies are Spirited Away and Howls Moving Castle.

Your channel is awesome. I had piano lessons as a child for 10+ years and was never really taught everything you talk about here, like how to actually REALLY study and learn a piece, how to improve different parts of your playing, the fingering and so on.. I could have learned so much more... also a big Studio Ghibli fan, I love Howl's moving castle ... strange, cool, crazy, thought provoking, fantastic...

What…same! I’ve finished music school feeling like it hasn’t really taught me anything, and I only learned the pieces which I was assigned which was maybe 4 a year. I never knew how to properly learn or study a piece, and even after a year, my pieces sounded like they had no soul. Now, after finishing music school, I’m trying to learn piano ‘again’ - the right way
@Lore_Piano2 жыл бұрын
Amazing work on that, love to see the Kyle Landry version of it. You impress me everytime on how fast you can learn a piece, and your playing is so good.. you bring always joy in my days. Thank you 🤍.

I learned the beginning of this piece (exactly where you got to after 1 hour) years ago, and played it on and off since then. The first few notes have never sounded as crisp for me as they did for you on even your first go at it. And basically everything else was just so much better than anything I could have done. I got butterflies when you started playing after the 1 hour marks, because it was so amazingly beautiful, and that realising this kind of result was possible, maybe I should pick this piece back up and learn it properly sometimes.

Unsure if others have already made this comment, but RE: the weirdness that might be perceived in Howl's Moving Castle, some of that might be explained by the fact that Miyazaki didn't write the story; he adapted it from Diana Wynne Jones' book of the same name and while a lot of the central plot, themes, relationships, and characters remain the same, much of the backstory (specifically Howl's) has been modified and/or excised completely. That's not necessarily a bad thing--the movie allows for the viewer to plug in details and foster their own hypothesis on what may or may not be the backstory. But missing that kind of context can lead to quite a bit of questions and gaps in the worldbuilding, if not the overall logic that sustains the story. The movie remains my personal favourite, but I'd highly recommend picking up the book (and its sequel!) if you have the chance. ^_^

Howls moving castle is the sum of ghibli's allegories about child vs mature and how they complement each other, its kind operatic, so if you introduce yourself about that scope of ghibli's philosophy and how miyazaki present that themes in his characters (with variations of the same, like gray hair shopie, child like drew ponyo and all her shape development back and forth eg.) ...that will act as an opera program given to you at the entry of ghibli's theater and opens your eyes to enjoy all what miyazaki wants to tell us....anyway I think that also the ages contribute with the enlightenment and understanding of miyazaki's allegories, by your life experiences related to simple be older and supposedly wiser ...like miyazaki.

So this piece has a sort of pop (jazz) waltz theme, and that's outside your comfort zone. You handled it perfectly, harmonically analyzing the parts which threw you, and it worked wonders!! Shout-out to music theory!! A lot of symphony orchestras do pop pieces as encores, especially after hours of heavy stuff. Maybe you could incorporate some pop elements like this piece, or at least a showy "rhapsody" based on it, into your programs.

Brilliant job! Really glad you decided to go for it, i love this piece of music. Definitely agree with you that Howl's Moving Castle was a weird movie. I think it's because it's based on a book (Howl's Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones) that has a very British feeling to it. So you're a German person, watching a Japanese interpretation of a British book. Probably a lot of stuff that gets lost in translation!
