Dude, I cannot imagine what a trip it is to see Joe go from Billy Maximoff to Charlie Spring rather than the other way around! I was overjoyed to say that Joe Locke proved me dead wrong when I doubted his casting in "Agatha" -- not that he's a bad actor in "Heartstopper"!! Just that Charlie is so damn wholesome and adorable I was worried I wouldn't be able to separate him from how well he plays Charlie in my mind. But of course he was stunning in "Agatha". I can't wait for you to continue with this, season two is even more brilliant than season one and he and Kit both blast it all out of the park!!

Ben aspires to be an asshole. I’m reading Oseman’s novels & novelas; sequentially starts with “This Winter”, second is “Solitude” which is all about Victoria (Tori) Spring, set around episode 4-5 of Season 3. I haven’t worked out the order of the other three novels yet-but the other novela, “Nick and Charlie” is at the end of term for Nick (18), start of Summer as he is preparing to go to Uni-and Charlie (17) is going to start his final year; it is after the events of Season 3. Anyway, it is *mostly* the same story. Alice write Solitude before the Heartstopper graphics novels, and post-publication revised it to (mostly) comport with Heartstopper. It is a bit less PG than the Netflix adaptation which is not unusual for a UK publication (US sensibilities are downright puritanical) and the Ben storyline is a bit different and rougher… but the main thing I wanted to convey is these novels exist (in case anyone didn’t know) so if-for example-you wanted more Tori, that’s where you can find it. She’s actually where it all started.

Fun fact: Kit Connor tried to get Charlie's role first, but then they saw him and asked him to try Nick's role, and he played young Elton John in his biopic, I think this was Kit's first huge project before Heartstopper ( and until this day he have Elton's number as he said in some interviews lol)

The music of Heartstopper is phenomenal. I've downloaded 18 songs from season 1, 24 songs from season 2 and 48 songs from season 3. Season 1 is my personal favorite because it is so triumphant and happy with the perfect ending (they did not know if Netflix would greenlight more seasons), but some people think it's too unrealistically happy (wtf you mean though, they still deal with homophobia and some transphobia plenty). Season 2 touches bit more heavy topics and season 3 is a tearjerker, bring tissues if you are likely to cry. Sebastian Croft (Ben's Actor) is so sweet and used to have "President of the Ben Hope hate club" in some of his bios or somewhere. IDK how far ahead you prerecord these, but the creator of the graphic novel, Alice Oseman, cameos season 1 episode 8 on the train.

This show is pretty loyal to the graphic novel mainly has to do with the comic creator being heavily involved in it. Season 1 is pretty much the first volume which in the comic for the most part is stock in Charlie or Nick’s povs and their interactions. While the other character would pop in and out from the story. They did such a great expanding and fleshing out those character more specifically the girl school characters which were the ones you would rarely see in volume 1 and that’s thanks to focusing on Elle from the start. Also back in the day people would say that Charlie and Nick looked a lot like Wiccan and Hulkling so Alice made a special Halloween drawing of Charlie as Wiccan and Nick as Hulkling. And now Joe is playing both Charlie and Wiccan.

Since you like Tori I recommend reading Solitaire if you like reading. It's Alice Oseman's first book and Tori is the main character. But I recommend reading it after watching heartstopper because it takes place around season 3 so you would get some spoilers

She's also said this about it, though: "The Heartstopper series and Solitaire feature some of the same characters, and operate within the same universe/timeline, but they are very different stories - Heartstopper is a happy, romantic, uplifting graphic novel series that focuses on Nick and Charlie, while Solitaire is a dark story about mental illness narrated by Charlie’s sister, Tori, and was written long before Heartstopper. You do not need to read them both, but if you’d like to read them both, it doesn’t matter which one you read first. Chronologically, Heartstopper starts a year before Solitaire starts."

an interesting thing about this show that is different than most other book/comic adaptations that i’ve seen - the original author and artist of the books and comics within this heartstopper universe is alice oseman, and she is the only writer on the tv show as well! so they definitely stick very close to the source material, and the tv series feels like a true extension of the comics, rather than its own separate thing. alice is a brilliant writer!

I loved your reaction to Heartstopper! It’s such a cute, wholesome, and beautifully crafted show that deserves so much more attention, and I hope more people discover Heartstopper. I really hope you’ll react to Seasons 2 and 3 once you finish Season 1 because it only gets better from here - and fingers crossed we get a Season 4! I pray to the gods and universe that we get one more season so Alice can wrap up the story. I also recommend the Heartstopper comics, but maybe hold off on reading them if you don’t want spoilers since the comics are quite accurate to the show. Another recommendation is Solitaire by Alice Oseman, which focuses on Tori Spring (Charlie’s older sister) as she deals with life, loneliness, and a mysterious blog causing trouble at her school. It’s a darker and more introspective story compared to Heartstopper, but it gives amazing insight into Tori’s character, and Charlie and Nick make some heartwarming cameos. Nick and Charlie are such a cute couple, total couple goals! I hope one day I can find someone like Nick. He’s such a green flag, a genuinely nice guy who cares so deeply and unconditionally. I also relate to Charlie so much; he’s literally my animal/person soul. I don’t even know how to describe it, but we share so many similarities and have gone through almost the same struggles. There's also the Nick and Charlie novella, which is a lovely read and gives you more insight into Nick and Charlie's relationship as Nick prepares to leave for university. It’s an emotional and heartfelt story that dives into their challenges and love for each other. But as I said maybe hold off on reading the books if you don't want to spoil yourself,also are you gonna have full uncut reactions to Heartstopper or are they going to be edited,sorry for being annoying 😅😂😂😂 okay bye

The way you clocked Ben's bad vibes from the very beginning 😂 yeah we do NOT like him. I think one thing you'll find that this show does well is steer away from a lot of typical tropes that are overdone/harmful while leaning into tropes that are enjoyable. It's sad that your audio was messed up, but I'd love to see like a little compilation of your visual reactions to certain moments from episode 2 (released as a short or something). Elle’s character is played by a trans girl. You’ll notice she doesn’t have breasts, but her voice and body moves are very believably feminine. Trans stereotypes would have Elle either undergo hormone therapy to grow breasts, or having her wear prosthetics to ‘conform’ to stereotypes. She is a girl but still carries some androgynous traits. Representation in Heartstopper is great both in terms of quantity as well as quality (not adhering to heteronormative stereotypes). Loved your comments !

Great reaction, it’s fun to see new fans discover Heartstopper through Joe and Agatha! 🩷💜💙 It might interest you to know that Joe’s also from a small town. He grew up on the Isle of Man and had basically written off his acting dreams, after seeing so many people he knew leave the island and fail to make it in London. But then Heartstopper did an open casting call, which let teenagers with no professional experience and no agent (like Joe) send in self-tapes from home. He apparently beat out 10,000 other actors who submitted for Charlie. It’s hard to believe this was his first ever screen acting experience. (And Agatha was only his second!)
