The Vervet Forest is a wildlife documentary focused on the lives of the monkeys at the Vervet Monkey Foundation in South Africa . We join the orphaned and injured vervet monkeys in their adventure and struggles as they battle their way through the foster monkey mom program to become part of a monkey troop again. Riccardo has a great little play face 😂😱😱! They are just so sweet at the age that they start to play, I wish they were able to play with their birth families and that all of the babies had not experienced the trauma of loosing their birth families, but I'm so thankful that they have a wonderful second family at the Foundation! It's wonderful to see these little ones go from scared and/or in pain to thriving and being a monkey with a mom that will protect and care for them. They all seem so exhausted when they get to you. I'm sure they've been through so much.

I am always impressed by how quickly the baby monkeys accept the feeding bottle... It is probably the will to survive that motivates them to drink the milk from the bottle, even though the loss of their mother must be strong and painful. .

Thank you very much for your great work with the little monkeys. What milk do you give the little ones to drink? I've heard that the monkeys can't tolerate all types of milk because of their digestive system.

They are getting a monkey formula most likely. Most wild animals can't handle the lactose in cows milk. Now a days with all the baby animals being rescued there are different types of wild animals formulas for a lot of the animals. Some formulas can be used for a couple different animals but it depends on the fat content and vitamins and minerals etc... I hope this helped answer your question. If anyone knows I'm wrong please let me know. Please let me know what they are using bc I like knowing things like this. Thank you in advance for any help you can give. Have a great day.

Clear statements or studies are hardly available as there seem to be very few primate experts. I am interested in this topic because I have seen on various monkey channels that monkeys very often suffer from digestive problems. Of course, this is not only due to milk, but I think it plays a big role. If you know an address that deals with this topic, I would be pleased if you could send it to me. If I was younger and had more money, I would love a chance to do it. However, I do think you could find a person, even close to home who might be interested. The nice thing is, OT’s are very good at cross training, so everyone there would gain knowledge in how to help the babies, especially ones with head injuries or orthopaedic injuries. As it is, I find it fascinating that Dave has an inate wisdom of the babies and their development. I think many OT’s could learn a lot from Dave.
