I like how you did the heating and lighting in the quarantine bins. I'm going to use that idea for the future!

Your setups are just AWSOME! Your tub is set up better than some vivariums we've seen. Thanks 👍🏾 for sharing. Take care.

Omg. Getting a tub together for my first ball python now, never used a tub before and I was planning to cut a hole in the top to put the heat lamp in but I had no idea how to go about it and what to set up inside. This video is everything I needed to see. Thank you so much Lori!

Please make sure to test the heating without the snake in it first to make sure nothing melts or gets too hot!

I love your tub with glass sliding door wow wish I was handy like you to build this too badcsomeone haven't thought to sell these !they'd go like hotcakes !simple affordable for one on a budget heat mat won't melt plastic ?
@LoriTorrini
@LoriTorrini Жыл бұрын
The heat mats are intended for glass with the exception of the lowest wattage model which I believe is 4 or 6 watts. You can. Use that on plastic or acrylic but it I begs used on the side and has to have one side open to the air.

Very nice and informative 👍. My question is about the enclosure he’ll be going in after the tub. Do you think he’ll climb up and wrap around the heat lamp or the other lamp?
@LoriTorrini

We have fixture guards over most of the heat and lights inside enclosures. Fulcrum had some lamps that didn’t accommodate the guards. He didn’t bother them; however, we did end up moving them above the screen too to give him more useable vertical space to love around.

Where did you get the glass for the portal? If I recall correctly the portal kit doesn’t come with it

I got that portal from Specialty Enclosure Designs but they no longer make them.

I think your setups are great. Curious who aspen as to something that would help with the humidity? Unless Colorado is more humid Than I remember
@LoriTorrini
@LoriTorrini 3 жыл бұрын
I have and do use all sorts of different substrates depending on what the snakes seem to prefer based on their behavior and if they burrow or not. Colorado has an average humidity of 40% and of course that fluctuates daily. The humid hides create humid microclimates and we haven’t had any issues with anybody our snakes species die to the humidity, even our rainbow boas. Remember that hydration and nutrition in addition to access to humidity impacts ecdysis so access to clean fresh water and making sure the snakes are drinking it is also key.

Lori, what halogen bulb do you use? Is it also from Arcadia?
@LoriTorrini
@LoriTorrini 3 жыл бұрын
I use several brands, whichever is usually available in 25 and 40 watt because most of my snakes don't need to be too hot and the enclosures really seem to heat up easily. Arcadia, Zill, Zoo Med, etc. .

Couple questions. You mentioned that you only use a a heat pad sometimes at night and all other heat elements are turned off. So is there usually no heat source at night? Im confused. Also are you at all concerned about a heat lamp/dome fixture being in contact with the plastic while hot? Is there a limit on that before burning/melting is a concern? What whattage is your heat source?
@LoriTorrini

Most of my enclosures have halogen for heat during the day paired with UVB and then those are turned off at night. I do not have enclosure heat at night unless for some reason the ambient temperature in the room is getting too low. Our ambients daytime temps are 78 F or higher, like right now it’s 86 F in here because it’s warm outside. At night the ambient is less than that and even in winter does not usually drop below 70-74 F. I think I mentioned in the video to test your lamps and all electronics installed and in use before putting the snake in to make sure the tub is not over heating or that nothing on it is coming into contact with the plastic and melting it. Tubs Hera up very easily and so in my experience less is needed to heat it or the halogen and UVB are only on a few hours a day. This needs to be closely monitored. I use the lowest wattage 25 watt halogen.

Is there any reason you don't use a Deep Heat Projector? Not judging, just genuinely don't understand heating equipment yet.
@LoriTorrini

I have some I’m trying for heat at night if it drops too cold for anyone. The lighting and heating group recommends halogen, uvb, and full spectrum lighting during the day. DHP don’t produce visible light and using that in addition to halogen would be way too much heat in the enclosure. I’m not a heating or lighting expert I try to keep up with what the cleft sin the heating and lighting group recommends.
