The thing with my racks and belly heat the top tubs hot spot is always like 6-8 degrees cooler than the rest of the tubs below it. I assume that's just because the other tubs have heat tape below and above them?

Hi Jason, you know i really would like you to do a video on "how to" breed boa constrictors, simple, straightforward guidelines, when to introduce the male, what temps to keep, when to feed both male and female and so on, i'd really appreciate that. Thank you!

Good explanation. I've been trying to figure out how to heat a rack for a fossorial species who needs deep substrate that heat tape won't radiate through, back heat looks like the way to roll

Great video , but may I ask to you put your thermostat on the heat tape or on the inside of rack near the heat tape?
@JasonsExoticReptiles
@JasonsExoticReptiles 5 жыл бұрын
I put my thermostat probe directly on the heat tape under the enclosure. This way I can control the temp of the tape and ultimately the temp of the enclosure.

Nice vid, I definitely prefer belly heat to back heat as well when it comes to heated racks. I am curious though (and maybe this will be a video idea for you), what are your goals and breeding projects that you are working on with the snakes that you keep? Do you have a particular direction or focus that you are moving your collection towards? And what are your thoughts in general on project planning and having a vision when acquiring animals, especially on a larger scale like yourself?

liking these videos man, very useful in learning everything i need for the health of the snakes. Something I've wondered is how feeding so many snakes works, is there a time efficient way to do this. I my self only have 5 snakes just as pets (hope to get more for breeding soon) and feeding day can take a lot of time just with those 5. could you make a video about how your feeding day goes and if there's a process that you have that makes it easier between thawing, heating, enticing the snakes to eat by moving them and so on. Whatever you could throw at me would help with my current and future pets. Thanks

I always look at it this way - how many heat mats or heat tapes do you find in their native habitat? Where do they spend most of their time - in cool, dark, humid places. No heat mates in my shop. At all. You really need to do what works for you. It's personal preference. I never use heat, and find it to be so much better for feeding. I run my temps like they find in the wild - at 83 to 85 during the day, and about 78-80 at night. Works perfectly. I never waste my time or money on heat mats. But great content. Keep it up. Do what works for you.
@JasonsExoticReptiles

That generally won’t work for breeding. They don’t have things like heat mats but they do have warm rocks and other objects.

@@JasonsExoticReptiles The empirical data would have to disagree with you on that one. Not only has breeding not been a problem - feeding rates are now over 95% weekly on average. And what doesn't eat, typically eats 2 or 3 days later. I have brought in a half dozen snakes that haven't eaten in over a year, all of which have eaten within two weeks. I tell, having to constantly regulate between hot and cold in your typical setup is extremely stressful on the snakes. Removing that need as a base environment has yielded awesome results. I ran experiments on 50 ball pythons for over 6 months, and I tell you, it's made a world of difference. I have seen a 20% increase in weight gain in the last 8 months alone. Love your content, good luck!

I seem to be unlucky with heating pads. They seem to get way too hot. I got a thermostat plug in the second time around so I can control the temperatures of the pad and it still got so hot that it cracked the bottom of the tank. I took it off because I was afraid my snake was going to get burned. What heat tape do you use and how do you make sure it's not getting too hot for your snake? I totally like the idea of belly heat better but want to make sure it's safe. I used the ZooMed brand the second time and its 16W.
@corinnecarrasco7023
@corinnecarrasco7023 4 жыл бұрын
Also I put my probe in the tank directly in the spot where the heat pad is VS on the outside with the heat pad(so I can see what the temp is through the glass) so should I tape it down? Maybe this is why it allowed it to get too hot?
@JasonsExoticReptiles
@JasonsExoticReptiles 4 жыл бұрын
You want to put the thermostat probe between the glass and the heat pad or taped directly to the outside of the heat pad. This way you can control the temp of the heat pad itself rather than the cage temp.

They can technically have babies anytime of year in captivity assuming you change the conditions to make a season but there's typically a four-month season or so. I run mine from April through July. The season for BCC is usually July through October

What about air temperature? I know the pads give surface heat. In my tub I got my heat mat under to one side for the hot side which is hooked to a thermostat set to 88degrees( surface) but the air temperature on the hot side is no where near that. Also on the cool side the surface temp is like 70 degrees on the dot. Air temperature on that side is just little higher... how in the hell can you get correct temp gradiants with just a heat mat on to one side of the tub
@JasonsExoticReptiles

Are you handling? What's the temps? How old is the snake? What was the previous person feeding? What's the cage size? What type of cage is it? How many hides? What's the substrate? A lot of questions, but it's hard to pinpoint what could be the problem without knowing things.
