Enjoyed Hanna's soldering techique. When I was in soldering school (we called "soldering" sodering, so the "L" was silent), there was a saying as to how good a solding job you did.... it was "The bigger the blob, the better the job". Anyway, keep up the good work.

She was messing around when you went out Andy. Suggest you give Hana a dirty car or bike to wash next time your off camera, bucket full of suds and a sponge, just to keep her busy. Might as well film it too, make sure she doesn’t miss anywhere! Just a thought.

Unfortunately pure copper is hard to machine and just smears. I think a very low spindle and feed speed on the lathe could help here. Also you should have clamped the shaft not the armature windings, both to get a proper true and also not risk breaking the armature. Finding the true centre should be done by rotating the headstock spindle by hand and using a DTI on the other end of the shaft
@AndyMechanic6 жыл бұрын
+Drew Dastardly Thanks for the feedback. Usually I do clamp only the shaft but the chuck had swarf in the spiral gear preventing the jaws fully closing unfortunately...all fixed now but understand what you are saying.
@timjon11224 жыл бұрын
I don't really understand the point of putting it in the lathe anyway. Some high grit sandpaper would have been fine.

Ok, let's be straight up honest here. 99% of us are watching to see Hana wear less and less and shorter and shorter....right? You do some good projects and explain them well, I mean when I'm actually listening, you explain things well. Just watching and waiting to see how low Hana will go with those short-shorts as well as any other ideas she might come up with, or down with. Great videos. Keep up the great work. Thanks.

@@AndyMechanic I did not see half of video, dam,,... however, before ordering brushes, should work on commutator and if successful, the go to ebay or Aliexpress and get any brushes really cheap and any chemistry... 90$ - that's total ripoff...

My dad and I use to turn a commutator with it in a drill and and using a file and emery. Some you can turn and some not most can be saved. New brushes and bushes and again good for 15 plus. At least we knew how it was done. not dribbled together with no bearing lube and worn brush.

Loved the video as this can apply to any motor. very expensive brushes and is there any reason you could not use brushes from another item and file them to fit? How much would you charge to ship Hana to the UK? I really need a Tool girl and this one is perfect!

My local small town hardware store has various size brushes in the fastener aisle. I think they sell for 1.29US each. Just buy the closest size bigger and sand down to fit. The guy that sold you those brushes doesn't care about repeat customers nor about what people say about him. Not a good business model.
@AndyMechanic6 жыл бұрын
+istvan meissler So very true. Last time I purchased brushes from him they were very much cheaper...maybe $5 each! Needless to say, I won't be going back!

curious. if hte spring was too short could you not put added packing behind that spring to push out further.
@rrhprosser6 жыл бұрын
Bosch washing machines are the same - I've had to pay $100 for 2 small brushes. Silly thing was the brush holder, complete with brushes already fitted was cheaper (but out of stock). If you're lucky you might be able to find something much cheaper ($5 - $10) that's just slightly oversize that can be filed down to fit. Re the damaged spring - it looks a lot like something you might find in an old ballpoint pen (BIC Flick). I notice you didn't undercut between the segments of the commutator - Is that no longer recommended after skimming?
@AndyMechanic6 жыл бұрын
+Richard Prosser Hi Richard. Yep did undercut using the hacksaw blade whilst the armature was still held in the lathe chuck. Did try get generic brushes locally but we're out of stock this time around and customer needed motor back asap Thanks for your input. Cheers Andy
