I feel like the prerequisite to work on this channel is great hair. Bernadette has shampoo commercial hair and now here’s heathcliff and they have the most stunning curls and perfect cut. Y’all may be all about the clothes but I’m over here just admiring the hair 🙂💛
@pearlygirl886 ай бұрын
Hard agree. Bernadette entered her fabulous hair era in the last year or so and now we’ve got another on the same channel! All of my hair is gone from brain surgery at the moment so I’m living vicariously lol.

OMG, I am HERE for some masculine clothing added to the mix!! Don’t get me wrong, I adore Bernadette’s wardrobe and I want her to just copy it for me, but masculine clothing is also fascinating to learn about! And of course it suits Heathcliff exceptionally well.

Tailoring is so important. It's extremely rare for any clothing to fit perfectly right off of the hanger. I have my clothing tailored all of the time. It's not as expensive as people think and it will make an inexpensive shirt look far more expensive.

Very befitting this project, in making the style fit them (shorter cut, not too far down the jaw) instead of forcing them to fit the style.
@stephanievanosten34966 ай бұрын
...that took me a minute to realize what you meant. I scrolled back up to rewatch the video looking for sideburns on *her* before it hit me: *oh*... you meant "they" as in, the non binary person with sideburns, not they as in the *two people* in the video lol
@haldouglas47735 ай бұрын
@@stephanievanosten3496"they" has been used singularly longer than "you" has lol
@stephanievanosten34965 ай бұрын
@haldouglas4773 No, it hasn't. Why do we have 'you' then at all? Maybe 'they' was used as a singular term in the context of speaking *about* someone else while not knowing that persons name or gender, as it usually is now, but what you are saying makes no sense for it to have been that way.

I love the fact that back in the day, they made clothing work for people, not force force people to fit the ideal shape for a piece of clothing! Looking at you low rise jeans!
@tuttyfat4 ай бұрын
Low rise jeans never looked good one anyone lol! They had fashionable, uncomfortable styles back then also. Just look at some of the dresses from the Victorian age not to mention the underclothing like corsets. Women's clothing has always been much more uncomfortable than men's. Men's clothing hasn't changed very much sense then, just small tweaks here and there. I take my clothing to get tailored all of the time. It's not as expensive as people believed. Hemming is less than 10$ CAD. It makes inexpensive clothing look much more expensive too.

Heathcliff's episode was great and I love this input to garment construction, style, and belonging. I've been sewing for years but had the opposite experience. When I sew a shirt it ends up "wrong." Our eyes are so trained on how a shirt should look, any error is very noticeable. The neckline too high, low, narrow, placed incorrectly, sleeves off kilter somehow. Big ups to Heathcliff for making something so detailed and it turned out stunning, in a period setting or modern one 💯

There’s a huge range of body types shown in historical portraits but I think we tend to focus on the ones that fit our modern beauty ideals the best. One of the things I missed most about the clothes my mom made for me ( she made all our clothes until she went back to work when I was 12) was the fact that everything fit PROPERLY. It was a huge shock to buy a shirt and… the sleeves were too long… but it fit my shoulders. If we found a size where the sleeves fit… the shoulders were too tight. Or it was too big across my non-existent hips. I was NOT impressed by that at all!

Call me stupid if I am, but how does being non-binary prevent you from finding clothes that fit your body shape? I can understand if the argument is "find clothing of your desired style in your shape" but surely your mental identity has little to do with your physical form?
@jessamynrising39906 ай бұрын
I can't speak with authority on this, as I am not non-binary myself (so if anyone can speak more knowledgeably, please correct me here,) but I believe it has something to do with the fact that menswear and womenswear tend to be designed/patterned to fit particular characteristics (e.g. broad shoulders/no bust/hips vs. bust & hips and narrower shoulders.) If you are born with a body that doesn't fit the gender of clothing you want to wear, it can be hard or impossible to find what you are looking for ready-made (and likely somewhat harder to adapt the patterns to your shape as well, though you wouldn't know it from the truly masterful job Heathcliff does here!) As a cisgender woman, it's hard enough to find clothes that I like that fit me (I'm tall with broad shoulders, a really long torso, and not super long arms and legs) but there *are* sizes made to fit me (even if they can be hard to find 🙃). But if I wanted to wear men's wear, it would have to be special tailored, I suspect. P.S. That is a good question, not at all a stupid one!
@Call-me-Ez6 ай бұрын
I am nonbinary,@@jessamynrising3990 you did a really good job explaining! I am Assigned female at birth, so mens clothes dont always git me well,it makes me look like a small child playing dress up in their dads clothes. But women's clothes often cling to my curves. Some companies are making true unisex pieces but they are often bulky and bland or super expensive, I have taken to thrifting and adding my own adjustments. I lean more goth than historically accurate,so often times lots of patches and distressing so traditionally femme shilottes can have a rough and rugged look that feels much better than off the rack mens or women's pieces.
