Heathcote Overview & Evaluation [Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent]

HI GUYS It has once again come to my attention that I am a big bozo who can't read my own skill spreadsheet! Double Wide Burst is in fact Heathcote's 5* skill, while Storm Burst is the one that's available as a 4.5*! That being said, my evaluation of the skills remains pretty much the same, and the two skills are honestly pretty much interchangeable!

Since you mentioned Viola being useful because of utility, can you please make a video on how to use buffs and debuffs efficiently? I often find myself not knowing if I should use an elemental damage debuff on the enemies or an elemental damage buff on my characters

Buff versus debuff use should be case-by-case. Damage debuffs lower the enemy's attack power. They are useful on enemies which frequently output high damage of the corresponding type, but are weaker if the enemy has unconventional tactics or uses status damage. Defense debuffs lowers the enemy's defenses. They are particularly useful against tanky enemies, or allow you to deal massive damage if setup before a break boost if you're using the corresponding damage type. They are weaker on some enemies (bosses) who have stronger defense buffs which negate their effects, or if you debuff one of their defenses, but they still take more damage from the other. Damage buffs do basically the same job as defense debuffs, but apply to your team instead. Because of the status cap of this game, you can use either defense debuffs or damage buffs, but if you want to max your damage you'll need to use both. Defense buffs do basically the same job as attack debuffs, and like damage buffs can be used in tandem with the corresponding debuff to reach, in this case, max tankiness. However, tankiness is only as much useful if your healing cannot keep up in normal circumstances, so it won't always be relevant like maximizing damage is.

idk i usually just use Viola and Lynette debuff/buff to line up when the boss has 1 shield left and then do big pp damage during the break and then next turn when the break is still in effect. The damage is absolutely enormous so it seems like what i do is working.

Debuff is generally better. The more important thing is to stack buff/debuff to 30% (cap value) Elemental debuff stack with magic def down so that is very good as well.

Just make sure that the attack down and magic down is on your boss used to skill every three turn or just pop some BP for one turn and before you break boost’s shield put a defend down on him and then attack

Great video! I was ready to spend towards Heathcote b/c I didn't get Viola. Regretted not spending more time re-roll but I thought 5* Lynette+Fiore and 4.5*Scarecrow were fine. I used your advice and did the step-up... although I didn't get a 5* on the first 2 so I kept going lol. Ended up with class-up 5* Scarecrow on 3rd pull and then went all the way and got another 5* Lyentte and 5* VIOLA!!! Literally last 2 pulls of the 5th were the 5*s. So happy now :)

I pulled him in three pulls for the nostalgia factor. I run him alongside Viola he pretty much as of now slots in over any 4 star you don't have coverage for. I really like him tho so far. My gems are in shambles tho so I also finished the step up banner. Now I just save and hope H'aanit comes on the 8th and pray I can get her. Also combined with Tressa party wide attack up and provoke can keep them safe and if they weak to dagger they are double screwed now lol. I usually just use Viola to debuff the first few turns tho anyway so Heath helps proc dagger in between. That is also in the scenario for a hard monster or boss.

The point he can break caits with priority skill is crucial, it will be in a long time the only reliable skill for you to guaranteed killing a cait that you crawl the dungeon for 10 minutes to meet. And caits farming is probably the only effective method for your team to level up at current stage of the game.

Appreciate all the recent uploads Started on The Wealth Path playing F2P, honestly hasn’t been that bad. Struggled a bit with Rosso, but all it took was a bit of exp.nuts, small gear upgrade, and tweaking team comp around. Really fees like a free rpg with a story. (Knowing gachas with time a power creep will show up, but for now it’s great)

I have a good team so far, total pulls around 3 multipulls, got me 2 5stat viola, 3 5star theo, and 4.5star lynnete, im saving rubies for long now :D my team still lvl 15 im gonna enjoy the stories.

The VA spotlight is definitely appreciated! I have been looking all over the game for VA credits and I don't understand why EN doesn't have it when English versions of other games do. I just wanna know who voices Fiore and Noelle! Also funny that Tressa who's a fave of mine has an Imas VA, but I shouldn't be surprised since they tend to be more prolific

You can use cress instead, he's cheaper heathcote. He has 2 hit shield breaker instead of 3

I think if you really want to scratch that itch, now's the time to do it because of the discounted price. Just keep in mind that Sofia is only rate up and NOT guaranteed (not even 50/50).

Easy skip for me, i dont really see myself in a situation where i will need a 3 shield crack to win or lose while also not having another unit to do the shield crack. edit: i say easy skip but i do like the old man and i would like to have him just for the fun of it, but ill contain myself

The first Dragon Scarf is from Tressa's mom in Rippletide. Dragon Scarf II (gives more SP) can be found after beating the entire Master of All storyline, and then proceeding into the Prologue of the Bestower of Fame storyline in Flamesgrace, where you can find it on an NPC there.

isn't the step up banner a insanely good deal? You basically get two 5 stars (on average) for the price of one. I think if you're not a JP player and already got your perfect team comp in mind or saving up for your waifu, it's an easy decision.

im wondering later on in the game how min-maxy content gets? like you mentioned he gets outclassed by later units down the road but in general can you complete content with the middle of the road kind of good units like him and scarecrow? or will there be some stuff that just requires you to have a roster of super saiyans? i ask this after my 6th!!! !@#$ing scarecrow 5* pull while ice mage waifu just sits there taunting me

Ultimately it depends on how far along the game is and where the weapon power creep is at. It's a pretty wide spectrum if you take the entire lifespan of the game into account. For example, currently the hardest fights in the game are the Battle-Tested NPCs, who require semi-specific character lineups with 5*s in order to complete; at the point I'm at in JP, I can beat any of these BT NPCs with an entire team of 4*s.

Hey, love your videos but wish I had discovered them earlier ! I haven't rerolled at the beginning and started with just Theo 5 star and a 4,5 star sofia. I'm around lvl 45 with my characters and got viola 5 star out of luck on the first step up, after wasting around 1800 gems on tressa banner. As it's still the beginning of the release, would you advise me to start over ?

Ultimately it all depends on how much time you're willing to invest trying to start over for a better account.

I personally advocate for Lv70 first before Awakening. The stats are nice but the Influence at Lv65 and more important +1BP at Lv70 are things I value higher.

The short answer is awakening stones will. Eventually be able to also be used to raise a characters special skill to max level ((I don’t think these skills are out yet but each character gets one and each one can raise it to ten with an awakening stone.)) Lyns special is a 10 percent buff for 2 turns when you switch her into the front row but with the stone you can turn it into a 20 percent buff for atk and eatk for 3 turns instead

Depends what you mean by "roster". If you pull them, they join your 'roster' permanently. If you don't pull them, they do not go into the Permanent Pool, and you must wait until a rerun of the collab to try for them again.

but does that mean in let's say while rolling for cyrus banner in the future you'll be able to get Tressa, Heathcote while doing so?`Since all characters that are not limited or collab get added to the chance encounter, do they also get added to new character release pool? so in a year or two you'll have far more possible 5* to get while rolling for new a character release than the 8x 5* that are now available?

It's a bit early to say, but my theory is that once a unit gets added to the Permanent Pool (coinciding with a Major Story Update), they will also be added to all New Character banners from that point onward.

@@ShizukatzCotC ​ @ShizukatzCotC that makes sense since 1.1.0 release seem to be right after heathcote's banner ending and bestower of wealth chapter 1 is released according to the roadmap. While the game notice for tressa's banner states "She is planned to be added to chance encounters after the end of her chosen traveler period, which will be announced via notice at that time." It does makes sense for her and heathcote to be added after the patch cycle rather than live update heathcote banner to add tressa as a pullable unit in the character pool which the statements made actually seem to imply. But as they recently patched the statement on Step 5 on sofia banner previously stated "Guaranteed 5* promotion traveler in slot 10" to only say "Guaranteed 5* traveler in slot 10".

So basically hold off on the step up banner for later, also even though you said that heathcote wouldn't be useful in the long run I have decided to go for him anyway due to the simple fact that my roster consist mostly of 3 stars, some 4 stars, A 4.5 star(scarecrow, whom you've stated is very average in this sate) and 1 5 star(Sofia). I've also decided to skip tressa's banner as well in order to save up enough rubies to get heathcote. One more thing, Fubuki plays this game?

Hard to say with no established pattern on how often they are releasing characters right now. If it's REALLY accelerated (like 1 per week) could be as early as 1 and a half to 2 months.

As someone who also hasn't played the original game yet, learning that a character from CotC appeared in X character's story in Octopath is still pretty cool information even without a more in depth description of what they did plot wise.
