Well excellent Jim, it may have taken a while but the education was worth it, and quite honestly if the boards were uneven when you got it I think anyone would draw tha same conclusion about the board widths. I'm just glad it was ultimately an easy fix and you will get on the air with it, Maybe I will have to concider getting one now.

You just gotta love those SB-104A's .....they'll drive you nuts! Sometimes I think mine is possessed. Do they have electronics witch doctors ? Well, enjoy the working SB-104......until the next problem. lol

Jim: Well that is a poorly designed "card cage" IMHO. No guides for the cards makes the prone to touch the metal plates between each one. Also need for more stress to remove and insert the cards properly too. Stress relates to flew and tends to pop IC's out of those poor sockets and well as possible trace cracking. One thing is I noticed there was no solder on the bottom barrels that plug into the card cage on the Display Board on the top. Is that per the instructions for assembly? Also the Display board has latches...what generates the signal for the latches to clear and latch a new frequency? Is that the crystal oscillator on the Display Board?

I was wondering if applying a little dielectric grease to the board contacts might help with insertion and the electrical connection of the board contacts after you have cleaned them?
