I've always regarded your videos as among the very best 'how to' guides for reptile keepers on KZbin even from such a young age. Always explained clearly, thoroughly, in an easy to understand manner and with humility and passion for the subject matter. A real credit to you. KZbin is losing out without you. P.S. Your Twin-spotted rat snakes are doing fantastic and I bred them with my own animals this year. Some of the babies have inherited Rusty's cool red colour! Agreed. Good thermostats allow you to set outputs for a basking lamp (%), and then you moderate air temperature separately. The EVO Connect 3 is useful for this.

Ive been torn, i have used t5 UVB and t5 grow light plus a basking dome and bulb for years but im wanting to upgrade. I have a biotope setup of native southeastern reptiles and amphibians. Are domes more common as nd standard than t5 ? I have flickering with t5 ballasts over time.

I'm sorry but I still don't quite understand. So my sandfish does or doesn't need a hot spot with a surface temp 130F? Or does he just need it to be bright and a little warm??

Joe, I bought a 48 inch T5 linear UVB fixture and bulb. Do I need Mercury Vapor Bulb that is full spectrum or a halogen spot light bulb, or a projector bulb for a heat source? The full spectrum mercury bulb is probably the best but can I get bye with a halogen bulb? They are cheaper. Who win the halogen or the projector bulb for heat? Thanks for the video.

Halogen. Mercury vapours are green tinged and don't replicate sunlight well.

Is this video against the use of DHPs? I'm very confused as to why I bought one from Arcadia now for my leopard gecko. I even got a dimming thermostat for it. I just use a heat mat to keep it warm enough in the warm hide at night, and a Shadedweller 7% plus a 35W Halogen, 10-12 inches above the basking zone, on top of wire mesh. Should I just stop using my deep heat projector? It helps simulate sunrise and sunset and I turn it off at night, an hour and 15 minutes after the halogen turns off (and turns on an hour 15 before the halogen comes on)

I think they work well, providing they are paired with a decent thermostat.
