What kind of oil to fill in the battery
Which is better to use heating element in the battery, heating the oil
Heating without pipes is a very effective solution in the country house, or in the garage.
If you left the room without heating for several days, in frost, at zero temperature, then the batteries filled with water will definitely break, as freezing water expands and increases many times in volume.
If antifreeze or oil is poured into the place of water, this will not happen.
In this video, we will show how to assemble such heating from old batteries, in a simple, cheap way.
We will use cast iron and bimetal radiators.
Let's check how much oil goes to each radiator, how quickly it heats up, and which heating element is better to put there.

And the better to seal the threaded connection.
First of all, you need to pay attention to the heating element, since it will not heat water, but oil, then be sure to take a welded heating element for oil.
If you take an ordinary water heater, it will not work in oil for a long time, since the heat transfer temperature in the oil medium is higher and the heater in oil must be heated to a temperature that is 2 times higher than heating in water.
Therefore, a water heating element, working in oil, will quickly burn out or leak, leaving an unpleasant oil stain on the floor. Since water heating elements are connected with solder, and when heated in oil, the temperature of the heating element reaches 200 degrees and the solder loses its properties.
We recommend installing welded stainless steel heaters with a temperature controller.
They are designed to work both in water and in oil, antifreeze, etc.
Teng consists of stainless steel and can heat up and keep the temperature of 500-800 degrees.
With the help of a thermostat, we will limit the temperature of the heating element to 100 degrees.
We found an old Soviet cast-iron battery, and we will take it for measurements, there is a hole in the plug, in the second hole, it broke from the fact that the battery was left with water in the cold, the thread is rusted, so we will heat it with a burner and knock out the plug
We screw the plugs into all the outputs, wrapping them with fum tape.
We take an aluminum battery, install a heating element with a power of 1 kW, we also wrap the thread of the battery with fum tape.
We fill in the oil and see what is on the battery
2.5 liters went, divide the volume by the number of sections and get the amount of oil per section, this is 0.25 liters
Now repeats the same procedure with the cast-iron battery.
6.8 liters went, divide the volume by the number of sections and get the amount of oil per section, this is 1.35 liters
We measure the temperature of the radiators, about 13 degrees
we connect both radiators simultaneously to the network, and we note the time.
We set the same temperature on the head of the thermostat and wait.
We measure the temperature at the top of the radiators
After 10 minutes, we can see that the aluminum heated up to 50 degrees, while the cast iron one - 30 degrees, the difference in the volume of liquid by 3 times makes itself felt.
20 minutes have passed, and the bimetallic is already at a temperature of 60 degrees,
Cast iron 45 degrees
And so let's sum it up:
After half an hour, the aluminum battery maintains a temperature of ± 68 degrees, while the heater's thermostat does not turn off, which means that all the heat energy is transferred to the air,
In the case of use in a small apartment, this is a good option, heats up quickly and has good heat dissipation.
A cast-iron battery with a temperature of 57, it takes longer to heat up, due to the large volume of the heated liquid, respectively, when the heating elements are disconnected from the network, the cast-iron battery will cool down three times longer.
You can install a heating element of 2-3 kW in a cast iron one, which is ideal if there is only one battery, but you want a lot of heat, and power outages will not bring discomfort.
In this video, we showed that old batteries can still be useful,
To do this, you need plugs, fum tape and heating element.
All this will cost half the price of a budget oil heater.
