Heatsystem is equal to SF4s FADC. FADC in the first iteration of the game made the games best moves safe (shoryuken/tigeruppercut etc) and you where +3 after (+3 is a crouching jab in sf4) on block meaning as long as you had meter you could reversal safely. Heat is the same way, use it to get out of a tough situation (this i like because guessing constantly against certain characters is just horrible) but heatdash on block should be changed to be -5 to -9 or something (for the unsafe moves that is), same thing with mid heatsmashes imo.

Loved this podcast Spag. I think that ranked should stay FT2, BUT, after the FT2, there should be an option that says "Deathmatch" or something similar making it to wear you and the opponent can play for however long you want, with no penalty for leaving after the first game of the deathmatch. I also agree with Phi with the idea of buffing movement a bit more, but at the same time some moves and characters 100% need to be toned down as well. Also, T7 was really hype, but I don't miss that game much do to all of the counterhits into 50+% dmg, into wall, into guess. I really do enjoy T8's approach to ch's where you're not potentially dying all the time to most of them. T7 was definitely hype to watch though, imo.

Then when asked about Feng, they say, well everyone but Feng. I mean is that what's going on here? Pro players complaining while downplaying and making excuses for their own characters? It comes off as so disingenuous. Really, what it sounds like is that they want their characters to have an advantage over every other character, and if that doesn't happen, then the game sucks. That's how it comes across.

the downplay is real but its at least part done in fun and I dont feel it detracts from the other points they make around both character and systemic changes needed imho
@funkrates47782 ай бұрын
@ Yeah. And Bandai has said they are going to make changes beginning of next year. My issue is the amount of negativity being thrown at T8, and then it seems that the motive is in large part drive by wanting their mains to get buffs so that they can compete better. Even though they were joking to a degree, they really weren’t. I get it. It’s like a job, but still. The negativity is too much, especially when drive by selfish reasons.
@Jeremyelrick2 ай бұрын
I get your point but don’t really think that competitive edge is why people are raising the need for chang both at a character and systemic level. I wouldn’t agree that this conversation is overtly negative and while there are some elements of downplaying and character specific sh*talking the points and concerns are valid and worth discussing. Sure Bamco have said updates are coming but I think the real concern is we don’t know the direction of travel. Ultimately I think the Tekken Team should be responding to some of these concerns ahead of season 2.

@kayanims2 ай бұрын
Honestly, every character needs to be able to use the heat mechanics at a similar level. They should give them unique mechanics while in heat that enhances their playstyle. However, i do not think that heat smashes and heat engagers should be nerfed. That would slow down the game too much.
@WeMissDimebag2 ай бұрын
It’s really funny because I feel like Joka and Kkokkoma have their perception colored a lot by being competitors. They talk kinda hyperbolic about the problems in the game. And they’re not wrong about what the problems are, I think they just speak too sweepingly. It’s understandable tho, it’s their life and they’re very passionate about it. I don’t think heat in general is the main problem, though things like +17 heat engagers and +10 heat smashes are too good. I still think the bigger issue is character imbalance. There are too many buttons that are too hard to deal with. Thought Phi did a really good thing of trying to stay nuanced and be precise with his criticisms. Made a lot of sense to me. Great conversation from everybody overall. Good shit Spag. I know it has to be hard putting these together with the guests you bring in, but we need more stuff like this. Keep cooking.

I get the skepticism because of how its currently structured with folks who qualified being eliminated in the round robin are able to participate in the LCQ but what if they don’t even make it out at all because we got hungrier competitors just waiting in there who didn’t qualify but are more than capable to be in the top 16 like Knee, Yagami, Doujin, Jeondding, Keisuke, etc. and just take them out regardless? That kind of matchup drama makes it more exciting for me in my mind.

This game would be so different if heat dash and heat burst depleted grey health instead of recovering it.
@jessefoti98652 ай бұрын
Heat smash should not continue the animation on whiff (stupid to chase people down). Heat burst should not do that stupid close up animation that freezes the game it just slows down the pace and I’m sick of seeing it. Heat burst should not be + on block. Heat dash should not push you on block? He gets to move my position 5 positions away cos I blocked his attack. Rage art hit box is way too huge. Rage art is not punishable enough. Why is asukas safe?. Revert the way power crushes used to work you could get 2-3 jabs and still duck some high power crushes. Actual risk when using a defensive move. Characters should not gain health off moves why the fuck does yoshi and heihachi get to gain life? Chip damage should be lower maybe 20%. Backdash needs to be slightly better. Tracking needs to be slightly reduced across the board. Remove power crushes heat engagers. Heat engagers also gain ghost tracking and range it’s ridiculous
@Blasarius02 ай бұрын
I agree on everything; i would add to make heat engagers more punishable since they are mostly safe on block. I think health regain is not bad, could be made universal but knowing the incompetence of these people, they better off remove it. That damn burst with the freezing is definitely the one i hate the most; just make it a seamless move, so it can actually have counterplay instead of making it come out instantly after i see steve's ugly ass face. Also heat smash should be -9 on block across the board.

Personally I think people who qualified should always have LCQ opportunities. Make the LCQ itself exciting, players will still have the chance to upset there. You can also treat them as late entrants to a bracket in how some tournaments simply stack all the late entrants into the same part of the bracket, negating the possibility of having them be the entire top 8 or whatever. To me, there should be a lot drawing earlier, to allow for discussion and gameplan earlier on. It'll get people talking about matchups way earlier and bring excitement to the Finals. Allow the top global leaderboard players to choose their groups, but have the regional winners automatically sorted already. In the group stage, make it Swiss style instead of Round Robin with less groups or a full bracket that just resets lives by days. Agree on backdash, think an improvement to proximity backdash is very possible and could help alleviate a ton of issues without allowing people to untether themselves too often from a closer ranged brawl. Giving a weakness to every situation, not allowing for forced situations, would really help interactivity. I think an idea around Heat that the advantage is simply the new abilities and chip, but the situations themselves should not improve for them. Definitely agree that every character should have more pronounced weaknesses without clear ways to counteract them to really expand creativity. More ways to win is always better. I love the white life war and how it can expand the life bar, but I think they just need to tweak when and how it's effective. It just needs to be approached more like Vampire Savior than true chip. Having it be in effect for unactionable states is really good, but right now it's had too much of a focus around an anti-blocking tool. The white life deleting normal moves should also have some sort of Guts system where they are less effective at the end of the life bar, or take away less based on the situation they're done. Let's get the online infrastructure worked on! Reset rank incentive to make it a longer journey to the top instead of such a quick climb, give opportunities for endless rematch, make the invite system far easier in private lobbies, etc. Great pod!

Related the topic of the cheap damage, I would have to know your opinion and the rest. I can understand the logic behind the idea of doing cheap damage when the move is slow or is a charge move, I dont like this kind of things so much but I understand It. The problem for me comes with others situations where cheap damage is done and the amount of cheap damage: - why in normal combos almost all the damage is cheap damage? For me It something confused and It provokes situations where you have almost 40% recovered health. - In Heat, what is the logic of the strings which are fast and Heat engagers make cheap damage? Example: 111 of lars , this cases are super bizarre and breaks the logic of the Game for me, because in Heat this "defensive tools" converts in ofensiva tools where the defender cant do anything. - the power crushes and Heat engagers, has this issue imo too. But you mentioned in the podcast. But has this idea too where a defensive tools id at the same time an ofensive and there is no options for the defender.

one cool thing about recoverable health I think is that it makes rounds longer and allows for comebacks in a way that doesn't feel too undeserved. For example, many characters have really high combo damage, so when you get launched and lose 50 percent of your health, a lot of it is chip damage. So you're given a chance to regain that health by fighting back and making better decisions in the remainder of the round. I completely agree that chip is very over-tuned, especially with certain characters and must be toned down. And especially with plus on block moves, because it creates a snowball effect where you need to respect your opponent, but you're getting chipped for blocking even though you're minus on block and this goes on for multiple consecutive interactions, often leading to the "one final poke" situation as mentioned in the podcast. I think with a more toned down and carefully thought out chip damage system where each character is taken a look at, I think chip damage can make for some exciting rounds of tekken.

I like the idea i just don't really think it changes much to the gameplay. You are still gonna die from 1 Combo into heat at the wall 50/50 for the round. Then if you block you put the other person in the same position
@tiger-rgn2 ай бұрын
chip damage is good you cant just block for ever and not have repercussions, imagine a fighter blocking shots forever and not have injuries, have you ever sparred? blocking shots actualy hurts the opponent, a better fighter dodges to counterhit and makes his opponent whiff, and gets rewarded for this thats called movement and sidesteps, you should get rewarded for that since its actualy more technicai, instead of just standing there blocking everything like a turtle, in virtua fighter if you backdash you get counterhit status, in street fighter chip damage always was a thing, tekken FINALY got it right this time and forces you to use more difficult defense by way of movement yet you still got people whinning lmao
@symonheiloguu2 ай бұрын
Not really, rounds last way quicker now, how many times have you been to a match that the time ended before you killed your opponent? The chip damage and the super moves will still kill you way faster, in the end you have less chance of a comeback compared to Tekken 7
@fighting1fefnir2 ай бұрын
I don't think you're wrong, but I also think that the problems feed into each other. Because you can recover a lot of the damage a combo does to you, combo damage overall had to increase. Without chip damage being in the game, characters don't need to do 90+ on any launch to make their damage stick. The other aspect is on block, where very often you land a combo, your opponent pops heat to steal momentum, and then they start putting you into that plus frames chip situation and heal half their life back while you lose 50 HP for not getting hit. Plus, and maybe this is just me, I think pixel and a dream comebacks are way more interesting than healing. I think if every combo did like 10-20 less damage and the amount of chip damage every move in the game dealt was half to a third of what it is currently, T8 would feel a lot better to play.

For f's sake deal with cheating. The current state of ranked dissuades casuals, and you need to retain casual engagement or this game will perish. Focus more on gameplay over greed. Where are other modes like team battle, treasure mode, survival, tournament mode, and time attack? I want this series to succeed but how corporate this game seems I am concerned they will double down on dumb. I can see Bamco charging more for stages and doing nothing about cheaters. Then just giving everyone an install because thats what they potentially where working on while largely ignoring game quality control and balance issues. I also think the pros feel hyperbolic, like if it was so 50/50, why are all the same usual suspects always in the top 8, etc. The balance discussion is a tale as old as time though, when a class/hero/champion/character does everything well and has no weaknesses. I'll be looking forward to seeing balance develop over time.

Moves that aren’t launchers should not become launchers when heat is active

why not?

@ I feel that it takes the continuity of what Tekken is and has been since the beginning. It makes the 50/50 game much more difficult to deal with at a competitive level

Kuma would be unplayable without the electric. There’s already counterplay. You can block or sidestep. I get sidestepped pretty consistently and that’s not even a downplay. Kuma literally has no plus frame moves except that.

his design is bad, medicore character that turns into finall boss in heat, you can't step because heat smash will kill you for that, rather nerf of change heat and buff his other tools

no one highlights the real issue in tekken 8, most of the rounds are finished in 20 to 30 secs, the damage scaling is too high for aggressive gameplay. I think all moves damage need to be toned down or have bigger health bars
@АскарШуканов2 ай бұрын
scailing is too low you mean, but yeah i agree.

@@АскарШуканов its confusing, i mean health bar should be bigger so that round finishes in 60 secs at least

Thank god they had phidx and rip on this episode. They brought a lot of comstructive criticism to the conversation that the devs can actually listen to and improve the game. On the other hand, Kkokkoma and JoKa were just like, here's the topic, it sucks, get rid of all of it. Thats not constructive at all. Im glad that Spag kept them in check by asking, "give me examples". I liked hearing Kkokkoma's perspective on the tournament circuit, lack of asian tournaments, the travelling and everything.

100% agree. It’s easy to complain and hard to critique. Yeah they brought something to the table but especially appreciate developed thoughts on where to go from here

Phidx may not like when people say that, but really feels like he wants to be good with Bandai, man. Specially after he was on a Bandai stand wearing a Chipotle shirt to promote the game, like, it's very difficult to believe in anything he says

Idk. This feels like a bit of a stretch. Phidx isnt like in cahoots with Bandai and secretly swiming in $ for defending T8. Hes critical when he feels like it and puts thing in perspective in other occasions w/o getting heated. This isnt US politics or something 😅

Seems like Pakistan is highly overlooked by Bandai Namco even though Pakistan is one of the best Tekken regions if not the best. South Korea, Japan, EU, NA all get a Challenger or a Master event even though their players face no VISA issues but the same isn't true for Pakistani players and yet Pakistan gets no Challenger event.

Bandai should consider having Master events in countries where Pakistani players don't face any VISA issues. Even Arslan got gis VISA rejected in some regions and that's insane considering he is one of the best players in the world. Or they can consider giving Pakistan a Challenger event atleast so that local Pakistani talents can also get a chance to compete against top international players.

I would make heat just rarer by making the heat meter a ressource that carries over between rounds. Maybe give everyone half a meter per round. While at that, also make rage art consume 100% of the heat meter. I think this would add some interesting ressource mangement, and heat activation would become something really climactic to the whole set and nothing we have to deal with every round.
