Good that you are genuine about it, with the reactions. This was probably the most popular Black Sabbath / Dio song, but not as aggressive as most, so maybe expectation figures into it? Black Sabbath bland?😲 Shakes head in disbelief🙄 The whole point of Sabbath are the slow,creepy doom riffs that are unsettling!😄Tony Iommi is one of the best guitarist ever and Sabbath virtually invented a whole genre on their own. I've seen them so many times live over the years,with both the Ozzy and Dio line ups,and the sheer force of the Geezer Butler's bass and Tony Iommi's riffs at full volume is like a force of nature and it takes your breath away.

You must have had your mind made up before the last bridge & verse. The tempo change was huge, they were shredding, & Dio left Earth. It was an anthem about breaking the indoctrination meant to control, which creates an arbitrary right/wrong, that leads to a lot of guilt & unhappiness. If that didn't appeal to you, you won't like Sabbath Dio. That's the best they got. Maybe go back to Dio's own band.

I didn't understand that part either. It picked up in pace considerably. They even got much quieter in preparation for it so the effect would be more pronounced. And when the faster drums kick in very prominently it changes a lot. Tony goes into soloing mode, Dio puts on intensity. Seems to be completely lost on Father and Son.

I'm not sure I would say this is the "best" that Dio Sabbath has to offer. Personally, I like it all, and H&H is definitely up there. But as a fanatic, I'm more into the deep cuts. Alright, got around to checking this out. Yeah, glad I'm not the only one who really didn't feel this one... It didn't feel like there was anything to write home about? Not that it was bad, it had a nice bass groove (that may have lasted too long... but they changed it up at the end), the lyrics were good, the voice was very good, the composition got a little more lively around the end but it was short lived. I wish the guitar was featured more. But... I mean nothing really stood out or "wow'd" me here. Not a bad song, and maybe hearing it live (in person) would make for a better experience, but overall it was alright. Spot on with the culinary references Larry! Food can be cooked fine, with the texture and everything, but people come back for the flavor you add into it! Haha. I feel like the lyrics "bleed for the dancer" is a central part of this song's theme. The song references constantly that there is basically good and evil aspects in life, and there's nothing about it that could change. And to "bleed for the dancer," is a sort of advice. I think it means that although the "evil" of life may cause pain (the "bleed" part), it's a thing you have to accept is a natural part of living, so you have to keep on "dancing" to get through the bad parts because there are good parts of life, too (to bring it back, there are "good and evil" aspects of life, and life, itself, is the dance). That's how interpret it, anyway, without looking it up (I'm sure others would interpret this more eloquently than I could). Now I'm imagining the Dad shouting at his son's friends "Hey! We got an insta! Check us out on the insta!" lol (Sorry, Ethan. XD) You guys are great! If you ever get around to any of my suggestions, I'm 100% fine if you think the song is garbage and should be tossed into the bowels of the Earth where it will no longer grace your ears! Haha! We all have our tastes, and I occasionally like giving you guys suggestions that are different from the norm, too, even if you may not get into it. :P In fact, I kind of almost expect it with my Solstafir suggestion..... It's very different from what you guys are used to, and it has some slow sections in it as well (but filled with sweet atmosphere!). It has more of an "emotional" kind of vibe to it, if that makes sense. There are some great grooves in it too, though, and it does pick up with more energy later on (I think you'd like the last part of the song). Depending on how you're feeling, I think you'd either love the song, or maybe it'll be too different from the usual that you may either be uncertain about it or may not be too into it. I discovered them a few weeks ago, and that song "Otta" personally gave me goosebumps after I heard it. Haha. Either way, have a great weekend, guys! Thanks for the reaction!
@brianmannell97544 жыл бұрын
Also, with Larry saying this was too bland, maybe we're slowly converting him to metal? Slowly... but perhaps some progress? Sooner or later, I'll be dishing out thrash metal, death metal, black metal, industrial metal, sludge metal... all the metal! The evolution of Larry the "slight" fan of some select metal, into Larry the die-hard metal fan that doesn't mind harsh vocals, will soon be upon us! (I know, this isn't the strongest possibilities, but a man can dream. Lol)

Unfortunately, when I think of Dio most of my favorite songs are ones with a slower tempo and the kind of brooding, vaguely menacing and mournful tone you don't seem to like. Songs like "Strange Highways" and "Sign of the Southern Cross". He has faster, more upbeat songs like "Mob Rules" and "Long Live Rock and Roll" but if you're expecting metal in the style of the late 80's or later then you're going to be disappointed because that's just not what it is. You might like some of the stuff from Rainbow, I'd give "Stargazer" a shot, but again they're mostly going to be slower songs compared to Megadeth and Iron Maiden. If you want some upbeat power metal, give Sabaton a shot. "To Hell and Back" or "Bismarck" are good intro songs for them, and Bismarck has a good music video.

Dio might be a better singer than Ozzy, but for me Ozzy IS Black Sabbath, along with Iommi, Geezer Butler & Bill Ward. The original & best. Try Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - Ozzy can hit some high notes too.

That recording was terrible. I suggest using Sabbath official channel for songs. My favorite song as a 50 year fan of the band. Incredible.

Try with children of the sea or sign of the southern cross. im really prefer BS with Dio, Ozzy its better with his own stuff :v

Interesting, this studio version sounds bit "static" in comparison with Ronnie's life performances of this same song 🤔: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXiZf6d_i7-biKc, but still, a great song 🙂

Got to disagree with you guys on this one , it is a stonewall classic. Some of the greatest heavy songs are quite slow and doomy. Maybe you need something modern to check it against. I'd say try Oceans of Slumber - A Return to the Earth Below, powerful, soulful and heavy. If you don't like that, then slow stuff is not for you, but you may be pleasantly surprised.

I know it's blasphemy, but I agree with both your thoughts on this genre and the time period of music in general. I know the guys making it are all great musicians, but the music doesn't do a ton for me. I can't really put a finger on why. It just doesn't sound good. Maybe it's the recording technology of the time that makes it all not sound as good as it should. You guys need some music with some vitality to it. Just remember when you get to my suggestion in October to make sure to let everyone know I was right. ; )

WOW! Ok, so this wasn't your cup of tea. I feel maybe you need to sit back, dim the lights, put on the headphones, close your eyes and let yourself sink into what is musically going on in this tune. This song would not work if it was faster paced. Also, go back and read the lyrics and analyze what Dio was saying. OK enough of that. I think Neon Knights off the same album should be your next Dio era Sabbath tune. Good job on being honest and having the balls to actually say what is on your minds. ROCK ON GUYS \m/\m/

I agree with you, the lyrics and singing are great but instrumentally is not as great. I'd recommend live versions of Dio songs, you get much more in terms of emotion.

Another fine reaction to another great classic band! I understand what you guys mean about the song not having a "Wow!" moment, but I wouldn't say it was bland haha! Dio was such a great singer..he elevates any song he sings on to another level, whichever band he was part of. I always loved Sabbath but I refuse to get into the "who's better" discussion because him and Ozzy were so different and both were good at their respected styles. I can't really comment on the Tony Martin era as I've only heard a bit of that. I think the 3 albums with Dio are all great...Dehumanizer never really gets mentioned much, but it had some stellar songs on there IMO. So, now my latest suggestion: Candlemass - Solitude (kzbin.info/www/bejne/raDIkGedoLhnjrc). Cheers!

Slow, dark & brooding - ummm, IT"S BLACK SABBATH - if this is a sticking point, then you'd better never listen to Hand of Doom, or heck, even the song Black Sabbath! Not all 'metal' is fast - it's the heaviness that makes it metal. This is one of those tracks. To each their own. This was epic Dio Sabbath - classic Tony Iommi riff (how can you not like it?!), fantastic Geezer Butler bass groove, and then RJD - the evil little elf himself. Sure Dio fronted Sabbath brought forth more of a 'dungeons and dragons' feel (where Ozzy's Sabbath was more of the occult/religious feel, imagery) Perhaps you'd be more inclined to Die Young or Neon Knights (off the same album as this), or the next outing with Dio, Mob Rules. Try the title track, or Falling Off The Edge Of The World or Voodoo. For something a little later, try the song 'I' off of Dehumanizer. Dio's vocals are amazing. Personally, I've always been more an Ozzy Sabbath fan. Dio was good, just not Ozzy. If you'd like to hear more Dio (but not with Sabbath) try Rainbow In The Dark, Last In Line, Holy Diver. You can't change your reaction, you feel how you feel, but I know a bunch of us will say - your loss. I've always
