Is the hope of heaven a terrible thing ? When my grand kids see the pictures of great grandparents they say they are in heaven. It is a faith like children have that heaven is real. I have seen many people die. They have a childlike hope of heaven. Death is not their end of life its the beginning. We will all find out one day, maybe tomorrow. God bless

The hope of heaven IS a terrible thing. It forces children to take a vastly narrowed view of the natural world and everything it offers. Telling a child that "god did it" profoundly limits the curiosity of why things are the way they are. Limiting or eliminating curiosity in a child is NEVER a good thing. Let them grow up a bit, at least until they can read and take in information that isn't dictated to them before you insist that they will go to hell for not believing the ridiculousness that the bible preaches.

The debate is not whether heaven is real. Christians already believe in life after death, and heaven, the realm in which God now sits. The problem with a movie brings to question how one can get there, and nothing explains what one must do to get there. There is no witnessing except how beautiful heaven is. Colton discusses meeting the Angels, Gabriel and Michael. He also talks about meeting his great grandfather. Of course, he talks about his sister hugging him and introducing herself. But the movie does not discuss the realism of the rewards and the potential downfall if you do not accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. For a non-Christian, what testimony does he/she get from the facts that heaven is for real? Do they believe that they too will get there?

I find it interesting that what the kid describes as his "meeting with god" sounds similar to what most people experience when they smoke a drug called DMT. When you hear people talk about their experiences with DMT, they will usually say that they got transported to a place vastly different from earth, they meet "entities" and a main god-like figure, the god-figure tries to calm them down as they are freaking out from the intensity of the experience, and then the god-figure and the entities create complex objects for the user to show their abilities and as a way to try and calm the user down. There's a theory that DMT is released in your brain when you die as a way to calm your brain down, as dying is a frightening experience. To me, it sounds like DMT was released in this kid's brain, and when he came back to life, he told his parents what he had saw in the best way he could describe it, as DMT experiences are very hard to explain. He was just a child, so it was probably a difficult thing for him to take in and understand. Since his parents are very religious, they probably interpreted what he told them as him going to heaven and meeting god. Many of the details could have gotten misconstrued as the parents wanted to use this kid's experience as a way to prove the existence of the Christian god. They could have filled in the blanks for him, so that's why the kid describes actually meeting Jesus, wearing white robes and everything. He was just an impressionable child, so that would make sense. Also, this whole thing could be faked from the beginning. Some people in the comments are saying that the kid who said this came out and admitted he lied about everything, but they're mistaking Colton Burpo with Alex Malarkey, Alex was the one who had a book written about him and admitted he lied as an adult. There's a lot of unknowns when it comes to death and god, but this is just my interpretation of what happened here.

Except for the fact that thousands of people had the same experience after death meeting with the Christian God. And it cannot be a DMT experience to calm you down because all people didn't go to a calm place in their near death experiences, many people went to Hell, which is far from calm, and came back and told what they saw. Games Foom most of the shit in the Bible isn’t true. I believe in God, Jesus, and all the saints my family believes in. But the Bible just says things that Jesus probably didn’t even say. It was created 40yrs after his death. I believe some of the things it says but most not really.
