oooo that's tough. Like I understand where the the Royal Court is coming from but aslso, so much I understand the grievances of the people of Yong'an. That monologue near the end moved me cause I feel them. Must we the poor die just cause we are poor. Do our lives not mean anything. That was so beautiful I cried. Also Xie Lian my beloved. He is trying so hard and spreading himself so incredibly thin to try and help everyone and noble and kind as that may be, it's just not feasible. You can't have your cake and eat it too you know. Sucks that despite all this effort, he'll be blamed for situations he honestly tried to fix but were just so way out of his control

So far this has to be one of the most brutal, anxious, and depressing chapters yet 😭

Xie Lien has seen so much but is still so kind to everybody.. I hope he always stays so positive even when I know so many things are going to happen in the books! 😥

Here is my summary for the chapter. This is not a fun one :”/ The people of Yong’An were kicked out of the city, but they stayed camping outside the walls of Xianle. XL has been observing the people outside the gates and it reminded him of a memory of him observing ants before they were squashed by a maid. New refugees kept arriving and settled outside the city along with other Yong’An citizens. At some point there were almost a million people settled. Surviving on the rations given by the king. For the past 5 days XL had divided the days into three. He devoted some of his time to his followers. Another part into moving water and creating rain. And the last part for caring of the Young’An citizens. One the last day, XL was not there, two parents were distressed because of their sick child. The parents asked the soldiers to send a doctor. The soldiers never gave the message to the king. After hours the people were suspicious and the father decided to climb the wall while carrying the child on his back. With the help of the other citizens he was climbing up the wall. When the soldiers realized what was happening they warned the man to stop and eventually the superior officer cut off the rope the man was holding onto. The man fell and landed on his back. On his back was his child. XL arrived at that moment to witness the dead bodies. Bodies that carried a protection charm with the name “Xianle” engraved. Charm to which moments ago that family was praying to. The mother, after loosing it all, smashed her head against the wall and died. In an instant, three lives were lost. The people were angry. The rich was able to stay inside the city, yet the poor were kicked out. They were also citizens. Weren’t they? They paid taxes. Didn’t they? Yet now they only received a bit of rations to a peace them? The people were furious. They were angry at the king. They pushed the walls with the intention of forcing an opening. Almost like ants pushing a tree. Lang Yin suddenly appeared and killed the officer who cut the rope. He had climbed the wall. And this people, Ladies, Gentlemen, flies, and butterflies, is the beginning of the end of Xianle….

The saddest thing is that these sorts of incidents actually is happening in the real world. There is no clear-cut solution.

When ethical decision making isn't coming from leaders it never ends well, it could have ended better if they hadn't thought they could throw away people like trash.
