So sorry to hear. Look forward to seeing to seeing him again in the resurrection. I was a teenager in Guyana at that time. It was a dark day and the majority of us locals had no idea what was actually going on. We heard the religious broadcast once a week on the radio and did not realize Peoples Temple was right in our hinterland.

I remember when this happened; it was so disturbing and shocking to me and I was raised in an apocalyptic cult. I was actually taking a class on group dynamics psychology at an Ivy League school and we were actually talking about how people act in high controlled groups. After this event we literally spent a week discussing what had happened and I had a few serious questions. 1) If you believed you are part of an ordained group, why would you mutilate yourself in any way? These people were taught they were asexual, so men were actually removing their testes. 2) If you are actually apart of some interstellar group, why would you have to be killed or commit murder? You should literally be beamed up, not spend time making videos saying goodbye and then drinking a poison. It was so sad that so many innocent people lost their lives at the hands of a mentally I’ll nut job.

I think a lot of them were passive because they were encouraged to act in a certain way because they were promised something. The mind is not as solid as people think. With good reasons people will go anywhere, that's what people who haven't been in a cult have a hard time understanding. The cult has an excuse for every weird thing, and people will choose to believe the excuse as long as the promise is big enough. Also it's usually a slow process. They gradually draw you in something very different from what you know, and you start questioning if whether or not your usual way of thinking can apply in such a case.

To those who say, they don’t understand how things like this can happen- it’s simple: the consciousness will seek whatever one spends their energy towards. When one is subconsciously seeking an out of their current reality, or even “life” as many know it, they will meet others/energy/circumstances on the same path. They will join the collective energy, increasing the energy and all intentions, and boom. All sorts of things happen, because all things were possible anyway. Everyone may have their story, childhoods, trauma, whatever- but all in this cult, came to this conclusion. This happens to this day, with all religious groups, political groups, personal relationships, etc. All one has to do, is observe children in a classroom or playground.

technically we cannot blame on just one person. the herd mentality is very common in this world. unless you have a tendency to be a rebel, it is common for humans to feel belonged and this is what caused these people to hang on to the group. they have a strong need to be recognized but they were not getting any outside the group

You can decide not to belong without being a rebel. It's called "thinking for yourself".
