What I love about this piece is how it repeats the same melody, but gradually adds a bit more each time. It's perfectly parodying The Doctor's time loop. Just like how the diamond wall gets thinner and thinner, the music gets more and more hopeful, and eventually, victorious.

Parodying as in mocking?... That's not exactly the term I would use. Following it, yes. Emphasizing it, yes again. But parodying it?...😳 Nope.
@treacle4617 Жыл бұрын
@@nulnemo4214 Parody does not mean to mock, it also doesn't mean parallel(which is what I think they were looking for), but it doesn't mean to mock. Parody simply means to make a piece of art in a style or genre with a different angle. You wouldn't say injustice or the boys are mocking superhero comics/films, but they are certainly parodying them. Mocking something would be satirical parody.

Stewart Seyfried, He may have technically been in the dial for 4.5 billion years but The Doctor himself didn't experience all 4.5 billion of them - he only remembers the one of the times he re-spawns. (He isn't 4.5 billion years older.) Making a Timelord regenerate is the same as killing them... Twelve himself (like Ten) has a hissy-fit at the end of his life about how he doesn't want to change. He even refers to it as dying: ''Well I suppose one more lifetime wouldn't kill anyone, well except me.'' He killed that man, end of.
@DayOldMeat6 жыл бұрын
David Tennant 12 didn't want to regenerate forever, that's what it was. He didn't know if he was going to get one more life, or 12 or hundreds. And as for the billions of years, it's a bit of a jumble I guess. He's chronologically not 4.5, billion years older, but he experienced the same days over and over, not to mention the earlier times we didn't see, where he didn't get what was happening, or where he painted Clara, or where he left the clues.

When Peter Capaldi started as The Doctor, I was skeptical. I didn't think he'd be as good as some of his predecessors. Time and time again he has proved me wrong, and I will truly miss him. Scenes such as this one prove just what a fantastic actor is, and how fortunate we all are to have had him as The Doctor.
@lizardlegend424 жыл бұрын
It's a shame he was sometimes given mediocre stories to work off of, but he manages to pour his heart and soul into even the most ludicrous of scripts and make them work. But when Moffat pulls out one of his rare masterpieces, like this episode, Capaldi excels even further, Capaldi is hands down my favourite doctor, although I on average prefer RTD's run.
@philippebernard45774 жыл бұрын
@@lizardlegend42 It wasn't difficult to imagine !... But I just don't agree with you. If we look at, let's say, the twenty-five best episodes of Doctor Who (and let's also stay with only "NuWho", coz' it's easier to compare with : same period, same format)... Well, you'll have between fifteen and twenty which were writen by Steven Moffat, and surely not "one of his rare masterpieces", as you put it !... Of course, you can think diferently, and it's very normal - specially if you dislike so much Moffat ! But I've noticed that, generally, these people (I mean; Moffat's haters wild bunch !) just hadn't understand a single thing at those episode's stories (and substories) !... Merry coïncidence ? I don't think so ! So I finally went to think that, ouside some who are kinda "allergic" to his style of storytelling (and I may hear why... It can be a bit 'flashy' and, well... 'posed'? - even more his work for "Sherlock" and "Dracula" I think), nearly all the others were just suffering of an incredible... lack of imagination; even more in case of "illogic" things in "our" good old world... They just feel insecure when the UFO leaves the ground, when 2 + 2 aren't 4 anymore... And that's how Moffat writes !! That's the curse of genius : people get envious, or pissed off; and then they turn to become ''haters''... What a pity ! But that's how we are; us, silly human beings; who hate and burn down what we once have loved and raised up to heavens !...

I agree; I remember watching an interview that dug up an old letter Capaldi had written to praise a Doctor who episode when he was a kid. I love even more that Capaldi got to do his own Tardis reaction and meet the 1st Doctor (though not technically Hartnell). It really felt like Moffat took the extra effort to make sure Capaldi was having fun with the show and it seemed like Capaldi loved every minute of it. This just made 12’s run so much better (I couldn’t even tell if he was acting or honestly fanboying in some of his most fun scenes); overall Capaldi felt like the best actor to play the Doctor to date (to me at least). In comparison Chibnall feels like he’s forcing Jodie (sorry don’t feel like butchering her last name) to act in a way that doesn’t suit her, and she just seems like the experience is a job (not one she hates, but not one she would do for free). I just really wish Capaldi and Moffat stayed on longer (I also kinda want to build a time machine and tell young Capaldi that he’s going to be the Doctor and a damn good one).

A few days before a shooter took the lives of several of my colleagues at the Faculty of Arts in Prague, my friend and I watched Heaven Sent just to fall in love with the show all over again. These days, the Shepard's Boy has become the anthem of healing, of coming to terms with the unspeakable, with grief many times harder than diamond. It is a hymn of triumphing by remembering the names and passions of those killed in our classrooms and hallways. Working bit by bit to restore everything our university means to our broken hearts. You may think that's a hell of a lot of work. Personally, I think we just have a hell of a heart.

This was the greatest Doctor Who episode and by far the greatest scene. What amazes me most is that this truly shows us just how incredible the Doctor is. There has never been a puzzle the doctor could not inevitably solve and the confession dial was carefully and meticulously designed to be the ultimate and inescapable puzzle that was to have only two ways to end, confession, or death. The first time the Doctor arrived, his natural instincts and behavior creates the original chain of events that leads him to the wall and he conceives the plan to hit it, allow the creature to kill him, and go back and initiate a loop. Consider that, he figured out that since the rooms reset, something that would prevent him from making any effective changes to the environment, he can do something they never would have expected, sacrifice himself to make everything start over again, and each time slowly dig his way out. Typically the protagonist uses a time loop to try and do something different the next time around but the doctor goes beyond that, that natural sequence of events he created the first time around will always occur every time he arrives and it always ends with him punching and damaging that wall, the one thing that is retained from each loop. The doctor is using the one force that no well crafted puzzle is immune to, time, a single human punch may be no more effective than a drop of water on a stone, but billions of them over billions of years can wear away anything, even if at only one atom at a time, it is inevitable. The Doctor found a way to use time as the ultimate force of destruction and made it so that no matter how long it took, he would be there when it finally worked.

Doctor was happier but when everyone dies (Clara, Bill, Nardole and Missy) he wants to die and refuse to regenerate, we see he's a very old-old man and he's job is over and he deservered rest in peace. What is so great about this piece is that I represents so well the progression of Capaldi's Doctor, from all the the self doubt at the beginning of his run to surely one of, if not THE best Doctor of them all. Throughout the piece you can really feel that 12 grew, from a man who was desperate to know if he was a "good" person, into the most devoted and determined Doctors to ever. Brilliant composing by Murray Gold.

Capaldi's seasons are by far my favourite. Even when-let's be honest - the writing or the narrative wasn't that great, he carried it. They took the doctor finding out who he is-something that usually takes an episode or two-and spread it across 3 seasons. And I loved every minute of it, and of watching him grow. And you could tell Capaldi loved every minute of it. Doctor, I let you go.

Basic stuff first: Never be cruel, Never Be Cowardly & Never ever eat pears! Remember that hate is always foolish and love is always wise! Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind. Oh, and you mustn't tell anyone your name no one would understand it anyway. Except... Except Children. Children can hear it sometimes, if their hearts are in the right place and the stars are too. For nine years, almost, I've been trying to put into words why this theme resonates with me so much; why I listen to it in times of hardship and depression. And I know why now. I think, in a way, we're all breaking our own walls, one little piece at a time. The Veil is the darkness that chases us, to bring us down. Often, we fall. Often we get low. Often that word, depression, it is the Veil. Yet we all get up again, and the more we get up, every time we do, we chip a little bit more off that wall. Our belief grows that we will beat our demons and reach the peace we all want. That, I think, is what this piece represents. We're all breaking our own personal diamond wall, and whilst we may fall, time and time again, eventually we will come out the other side.

The love for this track (which is probably my favourite in all of Doctor Who history) is unparalleled. I've never seen so much desire for one piece of score. It was mainly the reason I, and a lot of other people, wanted the whole series 9 soundtrack to be released in the first place, and they even uploaded it right here in it's purest form on the main Doctor Who channel which I don't think I've ever seen (very rare at the least). I'm sure the love for this track was why Gold decided to use it for Capaldi's regeneration, and I feel that it just came to be the piece that sums up Capaldi's tenure as a whole.

From my point of view, the Twelfth Doctor is the Shepherd's Boy and fits the story well. The Twelfth Doctor is and will always be my favorite Doctor, they really brought out the alien expectation of the Doctor in him, he never understood Human emotions and behavior and he was also really passive-aggressive on the whole Time War subject. Something the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Doctor has. Something Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor needs, it feels like it's just been forgotten, but since it happened. The Doctor cannot forget the horrors of the Time War and it had a major impact on the Doctor since it happened.

This track invokes a person who, against their will, slowly adjusts to a home not their own. A home that is, in reality, a never-ending prison. A prison that doesn't end with death. But said person isn't afraid to die. He's a lunatic willing to spend an eternity bashing a wall, one moment at a time. ... You know, I think it's a twisted melodic metaphor for earth, and his life in general. You could argue that his enemies are the wall, but honestly humanity and himself are walls as well. It gives the feeling that he's wanting everything he ever did to have a purpose, no matter how small, to create a massive impact over time. Doctor Who is a tragedy about a man (or woman now) who bashes a wall in desperate to make progress on it, only to die again and again. But the wall is endless, as is (seemingly) the universe itself. Is he making progress? Is he making a difference? Everyone wants to tell him that he does, but he listens to no one, because he realizes fate won't allow him to stop chiselling at the wall. He doesn't stop to make pleasantries with people, he just pauses. Just for a moment, to breathe. He's at home near the wall, the wall he's desperate to break through.

For all the crap Moffat could give us, this episode showed he truly understands what is Doctor Who. Think about it. It works wonders with Capaldi's Doctor and the themes of season 9. But if you think about it, every single regeneration of the Doctor would have done very exactly that. Not all as angrily, not all with exactly the same words, but breaking through that wall is definitely a very Doctor-y thing to do.
