Heavenly Delight How to Make Authentic Labbeh Shiri by Cookcraft Delight
Labbeh Shiri, also known as Lebanese Rice Pudding, is a delicious and comforting dessert. Here's a recipe to make this traditional treat:
Ingredients:
1 cup rice (short-grain rice is preferred)
4 cups water
4 cups milk
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon rose water (optional, for flavor)
1 tablespoon orange blossom water (optional, for flavor)
Ground cinnamon and crushed pistachios for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
1. *Cook the Rice:*
Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
Add the rice to the boiling water.
Reduce the heat to low and simmer until the rice is soft and has absorbed most of the water, about 15-20 minutes.
2. *Add Milk and Sugar:*
Add the milk to the pot with the cooked rice.
Stir in the sugar.
Increase the heat to medium and cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens and the rice is very tender, about 20-30 minutes. Make sure to stir often to prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
3. *Flavor the Pudding:*
Once the pudding has thickened, add the rose water and orange blossom water if using. Stir well to combine.
Continue to cook for another 5-10 minutes, stirring frequently, until the pudding reaches your desired consistency.
4. *Serve and Garnish:*
Remove the pot from the heat and let the pudding cool slightly.
Pour the pudding into serving bowls.
If desired, garnish with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon and crushed pistachios.
Serve warm or chilled, according to your preference.
Tips:
For a creamier texture, you can use a combination of milk and cream.
Adjust the amount of sugar according to your taste preference.
The addition of rose water and orange blossom water gives a traditional flavor, but it can be omitted if you prefer a simpler taste.
