To begin with, if anyone noticed how this episode had a noticeably different visual style and animation this episode, that was likely due to episode 10’s episode director and story-boarder being Kai Ikarashi, an animator who is a mainstay of Studio Trigger and has worked on many of their series and films. Now in regards to the plot, this was another one of those episodes that actually reveals quite a bit of information without doing so directly. Jūichi’s son Jūgo (who Maru identifies as a Man-Eater/Hiruko-person, likely similar to the Hotel King Totori and the Hoshio woman) having the same freezing powers as the spider-like Man-Eater this episode is meant to imply that one of Jūgo’s mothers (i.e. whoever was his biological mother) transformed into the spider-like Man-Eater after being killed and hung-up by the Walled Town inhabitants. This revelation is further confirmed with the addition of an anime only detail, specifically the bracelet/rear-view mirror pendant (with the red tokusatsu character) that Jūichi was given by Jūgo’s mothers (who also each owned a identical bracelet); said bracelet can be seen attached to one of the legs of the spider-like Man-Eater in episode 10. For those interested in reading along with the manga, Episode 10 adapted about half of chapter 27 (13/26 pages), and all of chapters 28 and 29. This is equivalent to about 2½ chapters worth of manga. The remaining parts of chapter 26 (6/24 pages) and the other half of chapter 27 were parts of the manga focusing on Takahara Academy and Aoshima (the new vice-director lady character), I don’t know if those parts have been cut from the anime entirely, or if they are being rearranged and we might see them adapted in next week’s episode 11 instead. An added bit of bonus trivia, chapter 29 of the manga also identified the name of Jūgo’s biological mother (i.e. the one who became the spider-like Man-Eater). This was conveyed through the cover page of chapter 29, where the named is spelled out in katakana though the art of said chapter’s cover. The name in katakana is spelled out as “ナナキ”. In regards to the plot at Takahara Academy for episode 10, the new Class 5 students are the 15 five-year olds that The Director was discussing and referring to in the previous episode. Also in case it wasn’t clear, Tokio’s pregnancy has developed at a normal pace, so about 5-8 months or so have passed since Tokio was taken away in episode 9. And if anyone is interested in starting the manga after this season is finished (it is currently planned to adapt the majority or all of tankōbon Volume 6 of the manga, likely somewhere in the range of chapters 36-37), I personally would still recommend starting the manga from the beginning regardless, as in addition to the standard cutting of extra dialogue and scenes from the anime for run-time and cinematic pacing, the chapter titles and cover pages of the manga also play a role in experiencing the foreshadowing of the story that the anime can’t quite replicate (due to the inherent difference in mediums). The mangaka of Heavenly Delusion, Masakazu Ishiguro (who is active on Twitter), their most well known previous work is “And Yet the Town Moves” (also known as Soremachi), which was serialized from 2005-2016. They have also done a number of other single volume manga and short stories collections. Ishiguro's has also stated that the major influences for the Heavenly Delusion series, include the works Akira, Armored Trooper Votoms, and an old Japanese science-fiction novel titled "Dogra Magra" that was written Kyūsaku Yumeno (who appears as a character in Bungo Stray Dogs) and published in 1935.

How many chapters do you think the anime will adapt? (no spoilers please)
@TheoVorster
@TheoVorster Жыл бұрын
@@DarkDoughnutsVids I already said how many at the end of my original comment. But I will say it again, this first season is currently planned to adapt the majority or all of tankōbon volume 6 (which collects chapters 32-37), so most likely this cour will adapt up to around chapter 36 or 37.

I totally get why he killed the guy. I don't know if I agree with the choice, but, in that world, life and death are around every corner, inside every building, on shelves in abandoned stores. Betrayal and trust mean different things in their culture. The snitch did not HAVE to call an alarm. Balancing a choice of not saying anything, and 4 people getting away to have a life together, raise their kid, with some possibility of the rest getting punished for the escape...or yelling to get them caught and nearly guaranteeing that one or all of them will die...to condemn someome else to losing their life means you're life is just on the table for a fickle end.

I just realized, Kona can see things far away, like he saw where Asura is, and I think that Maru can too, because he was able to know that the spider was one floor over him and Kiruko without seeing it, but by "feeling it". Also we have seen in this episode that Jugo has the ability to freeze, and that the spider who has the same ability appeared after his mother was killed by Juichi, and we know from white-haired adult guy that once someone with the "man eater disease" dies he becomes a man eater, so Jugo's mother has to be the spider, so the kids of people with the disease probably acquire the same supernatural ability as their parent(s). So if one of Kona's "superpower" is to have clairvoyance, and Maru has the same ability, it is almost confirmation that Maru is Kona's kid. We were a lot to think he was Kona's and Tokio's kid based on the fact that these two have made a kid and that Maru looks like Tokio, but it is one additional element that points towards it.

Jūichi didn't kill Jūgo's mother, he blames Boar #9 (who ratted the four of them out when trying to escape by yelling and alerting everyone) for the deaths of Jūgo's mothers, that's why Jūichi killed the Boar #9 guy at the end of the episode.

@@TheoVorster That was my interpretation from the scene but maybe you are right. No matter from whom she dies, the result will be the same.

@@cedricmichaud552 if Jūichi killed Jūgo’s mothers what reason would Jūichi have to kill the Boar #9 guy at the end then? The idea that Jūichi killed Jūgo’s mothers literally doesn’t make any sense with the information we have been told.

Now I'm sure the school stuff happened in the past. At each new episode we have a new clue in this direction. In the 9th episode it was the visit of foreigners (americans?) in the academy and the video conference, 2 things not impossible after the apocalypse but highly unlikely even with advanced technologie. There was also a flashback with the death of asura and now we have a jump of 7, 8 months for tokio's pregnency. For me it means this part of the story is the "explanation" part. It doesn't have a linear timeline because we don't need to see every details, only the important things until the disaster. Some king of countdown to apocalypse. I'm agree with theory of Jugo's mother became the man-eater and the good explanation of @Theo A. Vorster about it. But how it works? She had this power when she gave birth to jugo is the best explanation. But it was a buried power until her death, like for all man-eater I guess. So, how did she get it? A virus? A mutation? I think we will see more about it in the school stuff. But it also mean the new generation can have powers because of their parents and using it without being a man-eater. it was the purpose of the research at the academy or it's an accident that has become uncontrollable? I'm french and I learned english by myself so I know it's far from perfect but I'm enjoying watching your reaction and everybody theories so I hope I'm clear enought when I try to share my theory or my vision of this anime. I like a lot how the human reactions are real. Juichi killing boar #9 is a good exemple. Boar #9 is the reason of the death of jugo's mother and the exil of juichi so he clearly deserve to die. But he probably did it because he was scared for his life and after a long time in captivity he could also get some kind of stockholm syndrome. After that he also raised jugo when he could just ran away. So finally we can accept he paid for his crime. Juichi did the right thing when he killed him or it's a mistake? I think both because there is no good choice in this case (as in a lot of moments in our life even if it's not as critical). He made a decision and he move on, this is why he left after that and this is something I can understand.

Heavenly Delution. I think the more I think of it the more I buy the theory that the school was before the ouside word. 🤔 Some of the stuff would make sense.

For the time periods doubt, I just want to point out that the guy selling them information in episode 9, dives into the story of that school ruled by women and he explicitly says it happened 10-12 years before as well as the anime showing these facilities and the director naming her successor AND finally announcing Tokyo's pregnancy. I say that because for some reason everyone is overlooking that and keep asking the time periods question. So unless the show is intentionally making a triple backflip with the storytelling, that's already solved.

The way I took it was that some people have quirks/powers (even outside the school) and that might be a clue to how the Man eaters work

I REALLY disliked the pacing this episode, I felt like I barely had time to breathe and process what I was seeing before something else happened, it was all way too fast and the art/style differences were super jarring to me too. The director for this episode seems super talented, there were a lot of stunning shots, but I feel like he didn't fit what I expect of this show.

SAME SENTIMENTS! The past 9 episodes were much better directed. This is the only episode where I felt off because of how fast everything happened. I'm also not a fan of that goofy art style. Totally felt it really not suited the style of the show
