I used to struggle even on smaller bikes. Grabbing it as low as possible worked well for me. Let me know!

Maybe its easy for me because im 6ft4 and 275lbs playing rugby, but i grab it at the footrest mounting and pull it up.

My favourite is leaving the bike in gear and trying to lift it on the stand, with a Goldwing it is for all intents and purposes impossible
@GreaseAndGravel Жыл бұрын
Good one Terry! I forgot about that. To be honest, I don't think I'd get a Goldwing on its centre stand at all.

@@Rotor-Sims LOL, glad I am not the only one that does stuff like that. I once forgot to tighten the screws on a carb float bowl and couldn't understand why the bike won't idle.

Whenever you take the bike off the center stand you should ALWAYS stand on the side opposite of the kickstand. Why? Well first off you alredy mentioned that if the bike tips away from you, the side stand can catch it. 2nd, you have better front brake controll wich is really important as you cant have the bike in gear and you cant operate the rear brake. Now in general, if you take any classes on handeling bikes (so thats off the bike and slow manuvers) any coach worth their salt will tell you that the correct way to mount, dismount and handle the bike on foot is from the right side of the motorcycle, or to be more precise, on the side opposite of the kickstand. If you want me to go into the why feel free to ask.

Thanks for the info, I actually didn’t know that! It makes a lot of sense though. Cheers

@@GreaseAndGravel happy to share information. Found your channel by dumb luck haha, as im looking into buying a 2008-2012 GSA or a 2013 GS. Luckly mine wont be the ones with the servo.
@GreaseAndGravel Жыл бұрын
@@jakaberdajs4378 Yeah, the servo system is unnecessarily complicated. Hop you find a good one! ps. I actually always push my bike around from the lefthand side... not sure why. Will start doing it from the righthand side from now on :)

In 45 years of riding I have NEVER stood on the right hand side to rock a bike off it's centre stand. I usually have a fair amount of luggage on the bike. I stand on the left hand side with the prop stand down and then while leaning away from the bike roll it off it's centre stand and with enough of my weight transferred away from the bike it will lean towards me and I can let it rest on it's prop stand. Then I get on the bike. Getting on the bike with luggage and rolling it off the centre stand can cause the stand bushes to fail. It's only happened to me once but that was enough. I have never ever seen anybody roll a bike off it's stand from the right hand side. If the bike is on unstable tarmac/gravel it can sometimes slide forward without allowing the bike to roll off the stand. Placing your foot on the centre stand foot is the only way to stop that happening. Standing on the right stops you from doing this and stabilising the bike with your right foot on the centre stand tang as you roll it off. BMW's since 1990.

Ouch, I can imagine it is not fun if the center stand gives in@@maximumpat1 I wonder why some courses teach riders to mount from the right hand side. If I walk the bike with the engine on, it feels better to be close to the clutch rather than the front brake (even though both are near enough).
