Number 8: the horizontal cylinders are excellent for warming/drying your gloves! I ride a 2000 R850GS (141k km) and in Norways often cold weather that is an excellent feature -- when I stop for a rest I leave the gloves on the cylinder and voila! I have warm gloves to put on when I continue my ride! (Just be careful not to put the tip of the gloves so that they touch the exhaust pipe; that will make extra holes in the gloves... ;-) ) Thank you for the video!

Hello and thank you for this video. My main dislike concerns the twichy throttle response at near idle rpm. I foudn it very difficult on mine to be smooth from idle when opening (as gently as possible) the trhrottle after passing a round about or coming out of a curb. I tried mutliple fixes (the issue is wellknown) like a false temperature sensor which wil give the ECU the ''impression'' taht air emp is lower than it is in order to enrich a little gaz to air ration but it was still an issue for me.

I can go for about 1 minute.. after about 20 hours of static balance practice ALONE! Lol.. when you start out also try turning your bars one way “I did to the left” while holding your front brake. That’s a confidence builder. I was better sitting down at first too.. scooting in closer to the tank also helped me. You’re a pretty fast learner. For people struggling try what I said and it can take awhile but you will 100% get it down.
@GreaseAndGravelАй бұрын
Thanks for the advice! I did the same, turn to one side and front brake applied. I managed to do the same on my R1200GSA: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6W7dJifa6pnnNU But it is not a linear progression.
@chainbenwa2713Ай бұрын
@ lol for sure! Definitely not linear. What takes the most time for me was going from decent at it to doing it on flat concrete and no breaking or turning the wheel which I’m still practicing.. just a small gust of wind and plop.

Hot tip for all you 08-09 Gen 2 owners trying to sell your bikes, mention oil-consumption in your ad. We all know about the problem. So either say you corrected it or quantify the problem in an honest sounding way. Ignoring it will only encourage potential buyers to think the worst---that the bike has a problem and that you are not honest, with the latter being the bigger problem.

my prado had the same issue with the heater control. if you get some help you can pop the hood and get them to look at the back of the engine in the middle of the car above the fire wall in the engine bay while you twist your heater knob they should see the cable move and see where it gets stuck than its as simple as freeing it up.

My opinion is that you ride a dual sport bike on shorter rides, usually with friends, carrying very little and riding faster, more "sporting" because help is near at hand should you break down or get injured. You ride an ADV bike slower because you are carrying more gear and/or help is not nearby so you don't risk crashing or breakdowns. And any size bike can be used in either way but dual sporting is much more fun on a lighter bike, and traveling is more comfortable on a heavier bike. Generally speaking of course.
@MyTimetoRideАй бұрын
I just bought an XR650L! I rented one in Ecuador for my first solo 3 week ride and just loved it. Mods are cheap and easy in the US (front sprocket, bigger gas tank and rear subframe support is all I’m doing.) No it’s not a perfect bike. And not right for everyone. Who knows, I may find out it’s not the bike for me. But it’s my second bike, and I hope to modify it into a RTW machine. I am NOT however looking forward to approaching head on a huge semi truck at 60MPH with a 30 MPH side wind that is the norm in Kansas. That’s what my Gold Wing is for. 😂 It’ll be fun to have a bike I can work on and have fun with. (Oops! Really old post! 😂)
@JagLiteАй бұрын
What an amazing adventure! I agree with your choice of bikes for the trip, something new, inexpensive, and very common. It makes it easier to get parts and repairs and if you have to abandon the bike or it gets stolen it is not a big loss. I wouldn't choose to travel as quickly as you needed to but we all have different time schedules and it is much better to go and have to travel faster than to not go at all. Thanks for making this very interesting video.

I'm sitting in one right now runs like a new car we call it the father of the Fortuner, Tell you something interesting we using it at construction site, but when I brought it came with one proper shaft missing, don't understand why but it doesn't affect how it drives

And the ac feels like you're in a modern car the heater feels like you're burning, the engine starts better than most of its peers
@GreaseAndGravel2 ай бұрын
That is awesome to hear! I agree, this one from 2005 also still feels brand new. About that missing drive shaft... the Condor is constant four wheel drive, so if a drive shaft is missing in the front and you put the transfer lever in HL (high range, center diff locked), it should drive like normal with the rear wheels only. Did you notice in which position the short lever was? Awesome cars!
@GreaseAndGravel2 ай бұрын
Exactly the same with this one. The ac is almost too cold and the engine start if you touch the key... every time!

My KDJ95 with 1KD-FTV engine on mixed driving, but mostly long haul driving gets between 0.85 to 1.0 liter pr 10km. That is without roof rack, R151f transmission and about 31" all terrain tires. Thats around 11.76 to 10 km/liter for you ZA folks. Was a couple of weeks in Namibia 2 years back renting a 2KD-FTV hilux with rooftop tent and manual transmission and it really wasn't bad on fuel consumption. Seems that common rail really does wonders.
@GreaseAndGravel2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing! I wish we got the Prado's with the 1KD-FTV. Here, even the 120's had the old KZ-TE and only the 150 got the D-4D.

I get about the same out of my 1kD too, it’s a good engine for sure 👍
@Mr.Engineer.2 ай бұрын
@@GreaseAndGravel The 1KZ and 1Kd share the same engine block, so there are possibilities for an easy upgrade. Same goes for the 2KD, not exact same block, but same engine mounts and transmission/bell-housing bolt holes, so it will bolt right up to your current transmission. Not to hard to convert to mechanical injection either or just buy a Baldur DID1 stand alone ECU. Then you can have plenty of power, reliability and better fuel consumption.

@@GreaseAndGravel Yes, nice torque when towing heavy stuff. That instant pull away torque of the 4.0L petrol is super nice though. If I touch the petrol from standstill.. it really moves.
