Amazing story and incredible job. I myself got up to over 500lbs and lost over 300lbs the last 2.5 years. I’m running my first 50 miler in November and my first 100 in January. Thank you. I grew up in Leadville as a kid. I didn’t drink, smoke, or hangout with fellow classmates. Instead, I biked and swam everyday, when the weather would cooperate. It's not only an addiction. Scientist actually found out some people have a gen that makes them feel hungry all the time. Respect the difference. Some people are indeed fat due to just eating a lot and no sports, but sadly some have serious problems, and it's not simply an "addict" problem. They need help from a doctor and medication. They think 1/4 have a medical problem. So respect the difference and don't assume anything.
@shenandoah13224 жыл бұрын
Lich Lich thank you for this comment. Yes, for some people it is definitely a medical condition. For others, like myself, it is medication I have to take for a medical condition. During clinical trials, doctors knew that this medication I am on could lead to insane weight gain and also cause diabetes, but they did not publish this finding. Unfortunately, this is the only medication that helps me manage my illness, and I gained 103 lbs due to this medication. ☹️ I am now starting the ketogenic diet in attempt to lose the weight. I did initially lose 30 lbs with the keto diet, but using even keto approved sweeteners totally sabotaged my weight loss, and I ended up gaining back almost all the weight I lost. This time it is strict, healthy keto, just meat, eggs, cheese and vegetables, and some liquid stevia in my morning cup of tea. It's the only sweetener that doesn't make me crave more sweets. I will not be eating any keto treats, because the treats almost always trigger a binge for me.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful story! I’m fortunate not to be obese but have battled alcoholism for many years and have been fully sober since December 1st. I began hiking and running every day on my local trails in Boulder since that day and with each step out the door in the morning, I feel stronger and happier. In the beginning, which is still very close in the rearview mirror, were many painful steps both physically and mentally and as the physical piece has lightened and the body has strengthened, it’s become a true journey into self discovery. What really hit hard from your journey was when you said, “I was no longer uncomfortable at the person staring back at me in the mirror”. Such a powerful statement! In what was a huge struggle this past summer on similar stomping grounds while incredibly out of shape and insecure, I managed to summit Mt. Elbert which I barely completed and took every bit of willpower I had available at that point in my life. This summer I’ll be repeating that hike in a much better place both physically and mentally and have a stretch goal when I turn 51 in 2026, to run this race. I’m so very grateful for having happened upon your story and cannot thank you enough for your inspiration through your actions 🙏

Sorry to step in here but that is just not possible. That would mean you lost 22 lbs per week. Even if you ate no food and burned 60,000 calories per day (by running 300 miles per day), you still wouldn't lost the amount you claimed. They only way to lose that much weight in that short amount of time is by dehydrating your body, which is unsafe and not true weight loss. Please aim for around 2-5 lbs per week at a maximum.
@exorcists5 жыл бұрын
@@palmerprod I lost the weight because I never drank water and I would eat an amount 3-4 people would eat. So I cut out everything and stuck on with water/herbal teas, I eat small meals and walk 5 miles everyday.

On that same journey, not so extreme but still each mountain is a mountain. I cant express how motivating this is. One of my biggest struggles is the need for calories when i knock out some good miles, especially after the race. How did you deal with that? I started thinking I would run to lose weight, now its lose weight to run. Keep on motivating and doing the races which make folks like me stand up and notice.

@FuckAdds5 жыл бұрын
Bright observation ! Beans, peas, lentill are really fullfilling food with proteins so it fills hungryness very well. Much respect to obese people taking to running, seems so much harder and risky than bike ! In France medics are like " no run for knees sake " they are all on hike/bike/swim and running later on. So for me it is super surprising to see such running endeavour to lose weight. Go for health !
